I'm surprised we stayed ahead for so long in that game.
So many missed shots within 6 feet of the basket.
I think AI needs to come teach our guards what to do when driving to the hoop. Ie stop looking for contact and to draw the foul. Drive like you want to score.
Refs were homers for Xavier in the 2nd half. Way too many ticky tack fouls on our bigs really set us back.

We are making some shots which is keeping us in this game.
Ballhandling leaves a lot to be desired. All around. Not just Epps. Rowan hasn't looked good breaking the press either.
Maybe I'm wrong, but for some reason I think this team is going to continue to grow and be pretty decent by the end of the year.

Should have pulled away in the first 30-35 min of this game but left the door open. And then had a terrible last 4 minutes.
Really bad shot selection tonight. It seems as though we are going to live and die by Epps shot selection. Too much hero ball and deep off balance 3s. He could be really good by the end of his career, but has a long way to go with decision making. An easy one to fix is if you are going to take a shot, make sure you are able to square up and stay on balance. You're not Steph Curry.
Overall poor defense. Many missed box outs and standing around as shots go up.
I have confidence that Cooley and his team are actually good coaches, so hopefully we will see improvement in these aspects as the year goes on.

Maybe its the fact that I'm getting older. Or that Georgetown hasn't been relevant in CBB in a decade. But I feel like the current college landscape of NIL/pay-to-play and players moving around every 1-2 years is killing my excitement in following CBB and the Hoyas even further. It's going to be hard to get behind a team that has entirely new players every 1-2 years. The days of 4 year players are long gone. As are the days of "Hoya greats". CBB seems so transactional right now, which is the opposite of what college sports used to be.
Here's hoping that things will change in the next few years. I think the current model is not sustainable for the NCAA.

Maybe this has been discussed already in this thread or elsewhere... But is there a place where potential Georgetown donors can donate to NIL funding for players? And I wonder if this will become an alternative pathway to athletic department donation. This isn't directed at you but more at the NCAA. The idea of it being a "donation" of "NIL" funds is a blatant lie. It's bribing recruits or paying players. It's totally separate from actual NIL. Nike paying Hunter Dickinson to star in a commercial? That's NIL. Boosters paying Hunter Dickinson to attend their school? Not NIL. So basically, yes there are ways for Georgetown donors to pay recruits and players as long as the NCAA continues to let it happen, but by definition it just has nothing to do with NIL. That NY Times article on UNC is a great read. I was thinking of something like a Hoyas collective. Like Heels4Life. Do we have one for the Hoyas, and if not we should. heels4life.org/

Cooley is a good coach.
The Providence fanbase really likes him. That is saying a lot.
A couple months ago, I thought there was NO WAY he would leave PC and come to Gtown. I thought our option were in the Amaker or Mike Jones range.
I don't think we can hate on Cooley. We can hate on the admin giving Ewing an undeserved raise. Or on not firing him last year and pursuing Dennis Gates. Or on paying Cooley 6mil. But I don't think we can hate on Cooley as a coach.

King Rice is a fair counterexample of how it could go wrong. Turns out that there is more than just track record. You have to have really smart people actually interview these candidates to see if they know what they are talking about with respect to coaching college basketball and program development. And study their in game coaching, talk to former players, talk to former colleagues, etc. If we have to pick among mid major coaches, it would be good to have an actual comprehensive search and assessment of each candidate, as opposed to a croneyism hire.

With each lousy game, each 2nd half collapse and each post-game presser, these comments and feelings become more prevalent. The Administration needs to rip the bandage off sooner than later. Ewing has done possibly irreparable damage to his reputation and his legacy as a Hoya great, and the school has also taken a major hit to its once proud basketball program both on an economic level and in terms of its reputation and prestige. What saddens me the most is that a school and a program that was such a powerful presence for a couple of decades at the forefront of needed reform both within the college basketball community and on a much broader social scale has now devolved to the poster child for cronyism and incompetence. Hoya basketball stood for providing opportunities for those coaches and student athletes who deserved a chance but had been excluded or marginalized by an entrenched system. It was the next step after Texas Western had shaken the college basketball world prior to my time. I never imagined it would morph it some caricature of a monarchy with a "royalty" that controlled the program. Hoya fans should be proud of what Big John did for this program, despite any of his individual flaws, but it's past time to move on to a new chapter. Sadly, I cannot like this post enough.

Maybe I'm an outlier here, but I thought Jack had nuanced comments about the landscape of college athletics. He has been intimately involved with the basketball team and the NCAA for many decades.
These aren't the comments of someone who is trying to downgrade the level of the Georgetown Hoyas basketball program.
But it does speak to how hard it has been / is going to be to cut bait with Ewing.

The idea that Rick Pitino is going to be hired at Georgetown is totally absurd on multiple levels.
Regardless of who the replacement is, Ewing's track record through the first 5.5 years is an abomination and warrants his termination at the end of the season unless there is a miraculous turn around.

Being 17.5 point underdogs to an unranked team is certainly a new low.

I just think that the young man is making a big mistake. I would hate to see him languish in the D-League or over seas when he could have returned and really prove himself. He didn't improve much this year while at Gtown, we finished last in conference, and the prospects for next year are also grim. He is a good player and I believe he will have an NBA career. Better to play his way into the league via the G league or get a 2 way contract than have his stock continue to tank here. I love Gtown hoops through and through, but in the current state of things, can't fault a top player for leaving.

Love Dikembe coming to the games and being our biggest cheerleader.
Losing Ewing may risk losing loyalty of prior Hoya greats.
But at some point, you just can't justify keeping him. Results are results. And ours have been the worst in modern program history.

Issues with the Hoyas: 1) Mid major talent except for 1 player. 2) Very young. 3) Sub par coaching and motivation.
Makes for a tough year / decade...

The DMV is stacked. The top players mostly want to play away from home. Those who seem to want to stay often aren't getting offers close to Georgetown's level. It would be like St. Johns competing with low mid-majors. Those usually are the ones crying about things and loudly. Wasn't always like this. We pulled local kids Chris Wright and Austin Freeman (both top ~50) in the same class. If we had a winning program, high-major local talent would more frequently stay.

Only watched the last 7 or so minutes of the first half. Done with this game. Going to bed. 4 straight trips down posting Bile and Igohefe leading to 4 turnovers. Seriously??

This interview is very candid. Seems like an extremely thoughtful young man. What a fantastic pickup on so many levels.

Refs of the Davidson game turning on us in the 2nd half to boost the "Cinderella" is what started it all.
