He called two more techs in last nights upset of Wake Forest. On players sitting on the bench? Not exactly, but you're close. From what I saw it was a double tech, one of which was called on McFarland, as he was walking to his bench and yelled "Let's Go!" to his teammates. Apparently his tech was for getting in the way of Diakite's body check. Incidentally, the tech was McFarland's 5th foul and he had to sit the rest of the game out.

Not to get too off topic, but it is great that Monroe is being talked about as the best freshman this year without putting up entirely gaudy numbers (albeit in a weaker freshman class). When mock drafts having him going in the top five, that's got to reassure a lot of prospects that you don't need to go to a school where individual performance is put at a premium to get pro recognition.

Anyone know who is doing commentary for CBS tomorrow? Apologies if already posted.

This game reminded me a lot of the 2001 Big East season opener against Seton Hall. Seton Hall came to that game with a very high ranking, mostly based on the early season play of Eddie Griffin. Sam Dalembert was their center (if you're looking for an NBA comparison for Thabeet, Dalembert is probably about as good as it gets). Hall played that game with no heart (although a little too much heart was demonstrated in the locker room afterwards), lost by a considerable margin and proceeded to tumble down the rankings for the rest of the year as the team repeatedly disappointed. I'm not sure I expect UConn to go into the same downward spiral, but I think richfame might have a point. This game definitely exposed them. I was thinking about that similarity as well. Here's to hoping that we don't repeat what we did later that week. Losing to Pitt at home. I believe that Julius Page (could be wrong) had an embarrassing dunk on Ruben... Only reason I remember that is because he took away ESPN's dunk of the week honor's from Demetrius nasty slam on Eddie Griffin.

Not sure if UConn is overrated, but I am more concerned about Pitt at home than I was for UConn on the road...

Bunch of hypocrites. Here's what Boeheim is quoted as saying in the Seth Davis article: ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- After sifting through all of that information, Boeheim paints a much different picture than the one described by Kimberly Smith. "There are three witnesses who said Eric did not touch anybody, did not hit anybody. The five-person student panel chose not to believe those witnesses. I do," he said. "They all said basically the same thing. The girl got out of the car, then she started yelling at Eric. Eric yelled back, the girl approached Eric, got right up next to him, they were yelling at each other, Eric pushed her away in the chest area, one time, and then walked away. Okay? That's the information I have."
Now that the punishment has been reduced (or eliminated), everyone is singing a different tune. From the syracuse.com article: ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Said Coach Jim Boeheim: "Eric clearly made a mistake and should be punished. It is his responsibility to fulfill the requirements of this decision."
The hearing board determined that Devendorf did intentionally hit Smith but did not cause her physical harm, according to its decision.

If Monroe is top 3-5, then by all means he should go and never look back, but I don't think that after this year he will be good enough to be drafted that high. I think the gray area that we are dealing with is if he is projected mid-late lotto. We all know he has the ability to be picked much higher than that, but should he just strike while the metal is hot, even if it will most likely get much hotter? Which will ultimately be the decision he has to make. Considering Hansbrough will take ALL of the first 3 spots in the draft, that kind of limits Greg's chances.

Didn't Butler do the same thing to Cleveland State like a week ago? They must have been taking notes

Purdue at #13 in the AP is the confusing one to me. Sure, their 2 losses are to good teams, but they don't have any solid wins yet, right? Unless you call BC at home a solid win.

Sidenote from the Section 102. I had the severe misfortune of sitting next to the two young ladies from Memphis that were holding their Tiger signs the entire game and screaming during Georgetown free throws. Mainly, it was "I love you Tyreke!!!!" at a decibel and frequency level that the written word could never accurately describe. If you were sitting anywhere near the Georgetown bench, you know who they were. There were kids from the student section giving them the death glare, which was actually pretty funny. I'm not a confrontational person by nature, and despite my friend's best efforts, nothing was going to shut these girls up, (not even the hammered, older random dudes in front of us relentlessly hitting on them). So I apologize for not being able to do more. There were 2 of those girls in 119 on the tunnel as well. One of them was a shrieker. She got the death glare and a lot of crap from 118 and the student section. I seriously wanted to slug her after awhile especially because she had little Georgetown kids around her and all the could do was screech and wave her stupid sign around. Forgot to mention that these girls weren't even Memphis students. They were GW students from Memphis. Now if that isn't the worst combination possible to be sitting next to, I don't know what is.

It became abundantly clear to me Saturday that my seats are surrounded by scalpers' seats (they have yet to be occupied by the same people twice) and my only hope is that they fall into hoya hands, or at the very least just much quieter fans of the road team.
Point is that the lower level is never going to get that rowdy when scalpers' have control of so many seats.

Is it possible they were ranked that high for the sole reason that ESPN knew they were broadcasting 2 of their games this week? They were 12 in the ESPN poll, but 15 in the AP. Not a huge difference, but still...

I've said it since he entered college-have you ever seen a player spend more time falling, stumbling, tripping around on the court? He literally turns the ball over every other time he has it--and the amount of travels he's NOT called for is laughable, the amount of push offs he's NOT called for is embarrassing. THANK GOODNESS III waited for Chris Wright!!! The push off thing is ridiculous. It's like he has to have a forearm planted on the defender at all times. Perfect example is our last play against them last year right before the controversial foul. Reynolds pushed off hard on Rivers before he turned over the ball over to Wallace.

"Last year, Memphis won by 14 in a game Georgetown never seemed to be truly a part of." Really? he knows we were up 8 at one point right. ryan needs to watch a little bit more georgetown basketball. Although that might be hard since i didn't see his name on the list of student season ticket holders and haven't seen him at any of the games yet this year as a member of the media. I was thinking the same thing in regards to both articles. I remember us being in the game for a good amount. Especially in the first half.

2) Where is the outrage at this like what happened to Allen Iverson years ago, this is actually worse in many ways. Why is this basically being downplayed by the national sports media? One factor I'm sure is that the media is frightened by another potential Duke lacrosse situation. But then again, it is at the top of the ESPN headlines.

Somewhat related...
I haven't listened to a radio broadcast of a Hoya game in a while, probably 2001. I seem to remember getting needlessly excited way too often because Chvotkin called entry passes "alley-oops." Anyone else remember this? Like "and there's an alley-oop to ruben boumtje boumtje."
Is "alley oop" an old school term for pass? Does Chvotkin still do this?

Now that everyone seems to have kissed and made up, I have a question about coaching strategy (not coaching ability, so please don't jump down my throat). Can someone explain to a non-basketball expert our strategy against the zone?
It seems to me like we don't move the ball that well against it (of course I haven't played organized basketball since I was 15, so I'm admittedly not the best judge). Instead of passes in and out of the zone to create space, it seems like we settle for telegraphed passes on the perimeter and then shoot the 3.
I would say that it just has to do with our young team, but I feel like it's been going on for the past couple seasons. So is it the players not executing, or are they being told to do something otherwise? I don't doubt JTIII or anything, I just always found it odd. Anyone else see the same thing? Am I just remembering the bad times, and not the good times when they were able to pick apart a zone (without relying on the 3)?
