Nova won, but they're exactly the same team they were last year and the year before. If they can ugly the game up, they have a chance, but that's about it. And Scottie Reynolds remains the same player as well, if not worse.

Yep, Scrubbie sank two free throws to give Nova the lead late, but he is still all over the place. I know St. Joe's is decent, blah blah blah, but Nova should have blown them out- they are superior at every position.

And Reynolds was lucky that he wasn't called for a charge--he wasn't exactly "in control" on that last drive

I've said it since he entered college-have you ever seen a player spend more time falling, stumbling, tripping around on the court? He literally turns the ball over every other time he has it--and the amount of travels he's NOT called for is laughable, the amount of push offs he's NOT called for is embarrassing.
THANK GOODNESS III waited for Chris Wright!!!

THANK GOODNESS III waited for Chris Wright!!! The push off thing is ridiculous. It's like he has to have a forearm planted on the defender at all times. Perfect example is our last play against them last year right before the controversial foul. Reynolds pushed off hard on Rivers before he turned over the ball over to Wallace.

THANK GOODNESS III waited for Chris Wright!!! The stuff Nova fans have been saying about Reynolds' "abilities" the last few days are similiar to what you, myself and others had been saying for awhile now. He is very limited in terms of ball handling skills and he lacks speed. Wright may never have a 40 point outburst in college like Reynolds but he is nonetheless a better player (or wil be soon) and a better pro prospect.

What's more embarrassing is that CLOWN at ESPN Chad Ford was talking of him being a First Round Pick after his FR season--which means: 1. Ford doesn't watch games--he looks at box scores 2. He's a moron unable to judge NBA caliber talent 3. He is unable to comprehend the concept of volume shooting 4. ALL OF ABOVE Reynolds will be at Nova another year--and it's going to be funny watching Wright juggle all of the minutes with the wing/backcourt talent he'll have. Cheek, Stokes, Fisher, Waayns, Slow Stiff Taylor King, Redding--who entered Nova when Pinone and Pinkney were JR's in HS, and if I left anyone out--I apologize. My favorite sequences in tonight's game--the one where Nova got 15 seconds to get ball into frontcourt and nothing was called, and watching Reynolds turn the ball over at least 12 times with only 2-3 of them called. Worst balance of anyone I've ever seen when he's handling the ball-he is always initiating contact and stumbling/tripping and it's embarrassing. Makes me glad Macklin slammed the crap out of him with NO CALL in BET last year and Reynolds left the game. If he's going to get away with violations every other time he touches the ball-at least he can get the crap kicked out of him time to time.

When Reynolds was a Frosh at Nova (before we got Chris and before I knew anything of Chris), I had heard that Scottie had been thinking GTown and wanted to come here. At that time I was quite jealous because Reynolds was a hot shooter and I thought he could become a dangerous Guard. But seeing now where Reynolds has gotten in 2.5 years compared to Wright's .5 year in college, I am extremely EXTREMELY happy to have Chris over Scottie.

st. joe's end game execution OUCH --Missed one and one with 16 seconds left up a point...leaving the door open for Scottie's pinball routine and GW FTs. --Inbounds pass stolen after Scottie's two FT put Nova up 1, because nobody from St. Joe's crossed the halfcourt line and the inbounder threw a weak chest pass. --Airmailed the final inbounds pass and netted a missed over the backboard two point shot. Of course, the best D'OH! moment was the visiting St. Joe's student section caught on camera triumphantly unveiling their giant "The Hawk W..." (presumably "The Hawk Will Never Die") banner right before the Hawks missed that one and one. From the conference that brought you the WG Colonials... One side note...for all the conversation we had yesterday about the Big Five, I felt ESPN actually did a good job presenting the game...integrating historical stuff/game notes about the rivalry throughout. They did something very interesting in the final minutes, cutting to a lot of student section shots (both VU and St. Joe's), shots of the priests on each bench, and a lot of quick shots between the crowd, benches, and action on the court. Interesting presentation. I'm in the "don't care" camp wrt a DC version of the Big Five and believe Philly has a number of factors going in favor of such a series that DC does not...not the least of which is the Palestra and similar smaller venues like The Pavilion that enhance the atmosphere (opposite of what Verizon would do for these games)...but I'll admit I was entertained watching this one on TV tonight and thought the crowd had great energy.

It wasn't so much the lack of a charge call at the end (I thought it was a block), but the ridiculously obvious carry on that play. Glad Nova won for the league's sake but they are awful. Scottie can't hold Chris Wright's jock and Chris is improving week by week.

Yeah, I don't think it was a charge since because the defender moned into position very late, but Reynolds was completely out of control and had no idea what he was going to do (other than barrel into the lane, hope for contact and throw the ball up toward the basket).
'Nova always plays us tough and I am sure they will again this year, but they have been pretty unimpressive from what I have seen of them so far. Had forgotten how high they were ranked and when I saw that 12 next to them, my jaw dropped. Don't think they will be seeing that low of a number for the rest of the season...

Is it possible they were ranked that high for the sole reason that ESPN knew they were broadcasting 2 of their games this week? They were 12 in the ESPN poll, but 15 in the AP. Not a huge difference, but still...

I thought the refs were HORRIBLE all game long, mostly to Nova's detriment, but that no-call was just plain embarrassing.

Not a huge difference, but still... If I'm not mistaken, it's the ESPN/Coaches Poll where the coaches rank the teams. I may be wrong on that, but either way I don't think ESPN has any say in the final rankings (unless of course they decide to just add and take away points from different teams).

Had forgotten how high they were ranked and when I saw that 12 next to them, my jaw dropped. Don't think they will be seeing that low of a number for the rest of the season... Here's what I've noticed about Hoyas-Nova matchups the past 2 years: 1. When Hoyas play aggressive/attack Nova--they run them out of the gym--and score indicates that. 2. When they slowed it down and played halfcourt-they let slow clowns like Reynolds rest and it became ugly basketball and that is only way Nova won or competed. 3. Look at the games in BET in '07/'08 when Hoyas were aggressive and attacked them compared to the spurts they did in '07 and '08. Last year in ugliest game of season-Hoyas ran and went on 12-0 spurt and then slowed it down and allowed that game to get close. Fell behind early at Wachovia in '07 but ran and got back into game/lead and then went toe to toe. 4. If game is ugly and boring--it favors Nova. If game is quicker pace it favors Georgetown--and proof is on tape/video. Just watch--one team is better defensively and can shoot, the other takes a lot of shots and plays no defense. Those ugly games are why everyone "fears" Nova being on Hoyas draw in BET while I predicted blowout wins--only to have that Nova fan who comes here to tell me how wrong I'm going to be during BET post and then disappear after the beatdown is administered. Jay Wright is best known for a close loss (UNC in Sweet 16) and dressing well. He's a great recruiter and his teams stay the same-they usually peak in January and when he faces power teams--Florida/Kansas in NCAA's his teams get pummeled.
