I don't think you even need to look back at the '80s teams. Hate to sound like an ESPN guy, but the biggest difference that I see between this year's team and the 2007 one (even though this year isn't over) is the bench. In particular, the defensive toughness that Patrick Ewing and Rivers brought off the bench would be invaluable to this year's team. Nothing we can do about it now, of course. If I'm looking at defense, I don't think it was just Pat and Rivers. Of far more importance was a giant, 7' shot-blocker and a PF with Greg's mobility and a killer instinct that I'm not sure anyone has on this team (on defense, at least). It's weird to give credit to those defenses and ignore that whole Roy Hibbert component. Never said it was just Ewing and Rivers, and I never said anything critical about Roy or anybody else. But Pat was a huge help inside, and Rivers was a huge help in perimeter defense. We really miss guys who could fill roles like that.

We were down three when chris took that shot. Not one. The shot was fine. He was wide open. He just missed it. You must be thinking of something else. We were definitely down 1.

As good as this team is on their best day, you have to put together a consistent string to go anywhere in the BE Tournament or the NCAAs. There's nothing to give much confidence that is going to happen. Ugh.

Well, that was pretty catastrophic.

We created a monster by playing so soft in the first half. Rutgers knows it can win now. Going to be extremely difficult.

In what little I've been able to see from MASN, it seems like we've given up a bunch of very wide open looks. Got to tighten things up a bunch, and I hate to see a bad team get confidence at home. They become much harder to shake. At least no one is in foul trouble.

And ESPN 360 is blacked out locally. Obnoxious.

Get your ESPN 360 ready if you've got it locally. This Loyola-Iona game looks like it's going to go way past 4:00.

It doesn't help us for Thursday, but it was pretty beautiful to watch Louisville carve up that zone in the 2nd half. It's always a good day when Cuse goes down.

Duke humiliates them, and Juan Dixon tests positive for steroids. Pretty bad day to be a Terp.
And if MD is the ACC's 2nd best team, is this the worst the ACC has been in about 30 years? Maybe they've had equally weak years, but I don't remember them.

I hate to psychoanalyze games. But on the day that the Pitino to the Nets stories surfaced, this sure looks like we're quitting on you because you're about to quit on us. Louisville can't be THIS bad, can they?

Carolina is having a lot worse than a down year. They are awful.

Pains me to say it, but I think the UCONN boards are right - Cahill screwed them twice. Routins had taken three steps and then called a TO a few minutes earlier, and they gave SU that one too. Maybe it's the blizzard talking, but I think it's hysterical that there's a thread over there entitled, "Would anyone be upset if Cahill dropped dead in his sleep tonight?" The best part is the 8 or so replies that basically say, "no, not really." I guess there aren't any monitors on that board.

They gave Syracuse a time out AFTER UConn had the ball?! If Calhoun was there, that might have killed him. Complete robbery.

Greg's got some things to work on for the next level--mainly getting stronger. But good lord, he is a highly, highly skilled player, especially for a 20 year old. Enjoy him while we can. Fantastic game tonight.

May not look like much in the box score tomorrow. But to be down 8 on the road in the 2nd half against a team that can score and come back to win easily, that's a nice win. And Monroe put on a clinic.

Julian Vaughn with a one man fast break? The passing (esp. from Monroe) has been fantastic.

I love how the officials "made up" for the no call on the Wright mugging by calling two touch fouls on Jason Clark to send a message. Nice job of coming back, but all the conference road games are tough. Long way to go.
