He can dominate a game without scoring like Jason Kidd.

Dare I say it. He may be the closest thing I have seen to Magic Johnson. He has that kind of ball handling and passing ability. (Of course he'd never play point on Georgetown since we already have too many guards)

FYI: of course SmackMyB**chUp will graduate in 5 years. Whether he actually earned it is, of course, another story.

I was going to post this in the Pitt pre-game article thread, but it's not about today's game at all, and I think it warrants its own thread. In the Washington Post Express, an article on Greg Monroe's "struggle" to meet sky-high expectations. The PDF version is linked below, it's not as easy to read as the print version, but it's the best they have online. Picture of Greg on page 1, article on page 16. www.expressnightout.com/printedition/reader.php?date=2010-01-20Personal note: airballed free throw aside, I think Greg is doing just fine. He has made great strides and has become a rebounding force. Jeff and Roy never had put up with these kinds of expectations, they were not nearly as heralded out of high school. Keep doing what you're doing, Big Man. You'll make them all eat their words by March. EDIT: The Express article is a shorter version of Liz Clarke's article that is posted by DFW in the Pitt pre-game article thread. www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2010/01/19/AR2010011903102.html?sub=AR

I just read the article on the Metro and found it frustrating that there was yet another simple statistical error made. Greg scored 29 points, NOT 26 against nova. Maybe this isn't a big deal, but all this requires is simply double checking the box score. I can understand this happening occasionally, but these sort of mistakes seem to be commonplace in the Post/Express.

Yeah, that annoyed me too. It's even harder to live up to your hype if you get shortchanged by three points a game.

I'm remarkably disappointed in Greg - he has to touch someone to cure disease rather than just being able to use his mind.

Huh!?! You score 29 points (including a 3 pointer) pull down 14 boards and make four blocks against the #5 team in the country that went to the /final Four last year and you are struggling. I wish I could struggle like that everyday. I hope he stays next year too but this is a story that was written before the Nova game and the intro had to be reworked to make it sound plausible.

The article is fine. The copy editor who wrote the wahtever-it-is-called on page 1 didn't really read the tenor of the article.

I was ready to be PO'd about that article but it was fine. It wasn't negative -- the headline was pretty misleading, since the article itelf (at least the full one from the Post) did not really follow the theme that the headline suggested.

Yeah, identical articles in the Post and the Express, but with very different headlines.
Post Headline: Greg Monroe stands at center of Georgetown's success
Express Page 1 Lead: Hoyas center Greg Monroe struggles to live up to his hype Express Headline: Can Monroe Reach His Potential?

Just finished watching game last night. It was discussed a little in the in-game thread, but it sure seemed to me like he was trying to miss the FT. As he settles in for the FT, he looks to his left (not sure at who), and there is a narrowing of the eyes and maybe even a little nod, as if to say, "yeah, I'm gonna miss it, go get it." Hard to miss on purpose and produce a carom your guys can get (which would almost have to be front rim) when you've been pretty pure at the line in the second half, and when you know in your own mind that you have to hit your FTs. Hard to worry much about execution on this.
9-13 and a great defensive game all add up to struggling? Please. CA is right on about the Jeff/Roy comparisons: Greg is a victim of their success, since no one seems to remember that Roy was a project and that Jeff's offensive game was far from polished when they first got here. Somehow Greg is already supposed to be better than both of them.
Greg did whatever he wanted on the offensive end in second half and demanded the ball. Perfect adjustment to the matchup. Can't wait to see the running hook get a little more consistent. And, just a prediction, him pulling McGee away from the rim tonight will be a nice preview of what he does to Onuaku/Jackson on Monday.

Like others have said, the original article in the Post that this was cut from was fine. The only problem is the Examiner's headline.

He missed that free throw on purpose (just poorly executed). Guaranteed.

It is JTIII's fault. Clearly we do not spend enough practice time on intentionally missed free throws. Gotta step it up.

Half of that airball was caused by not having a strong football team. The other half was Obama's fault.
