Half of that airball was caused by not having a strong football team. The other half was Obama's fault. Bit if it's Obama' fault, then it is just a problem that he inherited from Bush. So it is half Bush's fault. Heck, let's just make it all Bush's fault.

I'm OK with struggling if it means 29 and 14 per game, especially if it means Greg will have to stay another year to improve his game. He definitely should not think about the NBA until he's averaging at least a quadruple double.

Time after time I am dissappointed with the Washington Post's coverage of the Hoyas. I live in DC and support the Washington Post and don't want to see them go out of business. I always look forward to the sports page after a GTOWN game but have never really been satisfied with their coverage/analysis. Is there anything we can do, besides complaining about liz clarke on this board, to get her ousted? Start a petition or something? Georgetown basketball is the most exciting basketball going on in DC...even though the Post must be loving the Gilbert story...I want to be able to read a good article about DC's best basketball team in DC's best paper...the Washington Post.

Short answer- No. Long answer - Nooooooooooooooooooo. Longer, coherent answer - She writes a game day and post-game article and isn't actively incompetent (not commenting or her one way or the other, just saying that the bar to get removed from a beat is pretty high). You can certainly ask the sports editor to fire her or complain in Post chat sessions, but the usual Post response has been that GU drives very little site traffic and so it's not a high priority.

Covering Georgetown must be a coveted assignment. I wish she would act like it.
Exorcist - I realize nothing can really be done. I've complained directly to WP editors. Just hoping we can take it to a new level. At the end of the day...hoya talk is where I'm coming to get my gtown bball news.

Except it isn't a coveted assignment. It's an assignment no one wants unfortunately.

Until the Post has a "Hoyas Insider" blog to run alongside the "Terrapins Insider," I think we can safely assume the paper doesn't give a rat's ass about covering Georgetown.

In the Post's defense, college basketball has limitations on interviewing players that the Wizards Insider has. And Maryland's insider covers numerous sports, especially a football program that draws ten of thousands of fans a game. It's hard to create a GU-specific blog when there's not a lot of info you can use to populate it.

I'd just like to point out that Greg is currently averaging 10.2 rebounds per game. That's good for 20th in the nation right now, and, 2nd in the Big East. If he maintains this pace, he would tie Patrick Ewing for the 15th best rebounding average in Georgetown history.
There have only been 20 players in Georgetown History that have averaged 10+ rebounds per game in a season and only 19 players that have averaged a double-double over the course of the season (Ya-Ya Dia is averaged 10.1 rpg but only 8.1 ppg in 1997)
So yeah, I'd say he's doing a pretty damn good job of living up to the hype.

his passing and rebounding have been great. i have a problem with the fact that he plays almost no defense at all and misses too many easy looks down low.

From www.sportingnews.com/college-basketball/article/2010-01-20/what-we-learned-georgetown-atop-wide-open-big-east - "What we learned from GU-Pitt": Greg Monroe does not believe in his muscle When Pitt opened with 6-7 Nasir Robinson guarding the 6-11 Monroe, Monroe immediately dove into the post and accepted a post feed for a nice, clean look at a post basket. He missed the shot, but he'd shown what was possible. As the game developed, Pitt used Robinson less on Monroe and went with 6-10 Gary McGhee and 6-9 Dante Taylor more frequently. It was fascinating to watch how little interest Monroe had in attacking either one directly. Instead of using his terrific ballhandling ability to back down the Pitt big man defending him, he endeavored to use his quickness and ballhandling skill together to drive past them. There's only so much room in the post to make that happen, so Monroe most often wound up trying to extend his left arm and try to score from odd angles. That's how he wound up shooting 4-of-14 from the field.

Ha! And I have to agree. DeCourcy wanted Greg to back down his guy? I'm curious why he thinks that was a good idea considering that Greg was being doubled every time he got the ball on the block. Pitt said that their game plan was focused on denying Greg from scoring. I think they did a pretty good job of executing that plan.

I agree with you Filo, Monroe did exactly what he should do in that situation. Pitt game planned to take him away, the Hoyas have other very capable scoring options, punish Pitt for doubling Monroe by freeing up the shooters. What would make less sense is for Monroe to try to beat a double team, that would just be selfish and probably ineffective.
It bothers me that this kid gets beat up by the media so much. I really do not understand what they want him to be. He is not Shaq or Karl Malone, he is modern version of a power forward, he can face up to the basket and he has the court vision of a pointguard. The focus on the negative, when he has so much going for him, is so annoying.

I don't get it, either.
Here's the RSCI Top 10 from 2008:
1. Brandon Jennings - NBA, never played college 2. Jrue Holiday - didn't live up to expectations, jumped anyway 3. Tyreke Evans - NBA, scored a lot of easy points at Memphis 4. Samardo Samuels - not as good as Greg Monroe 5. Demar DeRozan - got hot at the end of the season, jumped 6. Greg 7. Al-Farouq Aminu - similar effectiveness offensively to Greg. 8. BJ Mullens - sucked. 9. Ed Davis - not as good as Greg. Complete complementary player. 10. Delvon Roe - been hurt a lot.
