bobby cremins is the announcer -- spent some time talking about macklin and said that adding him to Big Roy and Jeff means our frontline will be 'incredible'

caught the first half & echo above -- macklin has not had ball very often as the guards have dominated the ball. had some bad passes thrown his way. I slow-motioned a rebound where the ball was on the rim a he jumped twice quickly and got his hands on the ball but deflected away -- exhibited good bounce. had one shot down low where it was in and out, and blocked a guards shot who was driving by him. that's about it.

It is so refreshing to see a focus on recruiting -- and I mean not only going after and getting top talent, but also what seems like a lot of strategy in assembling classes and building something sustainable.

Is Thomas' draft stock falling in front of our eyes? You would expect the #1 projected draft pick on NBADraft.net to have more of an impact than what we're seeing tonight.

Even though Macklin is not a 5th year senior, I belive he was born in '86, which would make him 20 as a frosh -- I agree that 20 is much different than 18, and in this respect I think we will be benefitted. Also, could have played a part in reports that he has put on some weight this year.

Cool, that does get me excited! I saw PE Jr one time in the Kennar and certainly liked what I saw, including the shooting touch.

Hope you're right about wing scoring being the least of our concerns, but that is all based on projection as opposed to what guys have actually done on the college level. I'm talking about one of our small forwards or shooting guards being able to drop 20 -- not sure how you can say that will be the least of our concerns. We know we're fine (if not dominant) down low, Wallace provides steadiness at the point and can score a bit, and our system works, those are the givens.

Along with Jeff, Sapp is another guy who has to get more aggressive -- hopefully this will happen with experience and the fact that there are no more senirs to lean on. If Sapp can look to score and hit the outside shot more consistently, I see a very complete team. Right now my concern (and this relates to being an Elite team, we obviously will bo good) is where the wing scoring will come from.

Read this is Ray Meyer's obit this morning and could not help but think of Big Roy -- he will be tested by Dials, will be a very good learning experience.
As Meyer put it in his memoirs, George Mikan was "raw material with little talent." Meyer taught Mikan every aspect of the game and made him take hundreds of hook shots, both right-handed and left-handed, every day while keeping a towel wedged under his opposite arm to maintain proper form. "I was a slave driver and he was a willing slave," Meyer recalled.

Not sure how you can jump to the conclusion that Sapp can't shoot -- clearly there is not enough evidence to support this, not to mention the fact that kids improve with more reps. Right now Sapp is playing a supporting role, and is very deferential on offense. Also, please speak for yourself when you say you have no confidence in his offense.

I agree -- this time of year you need someone to get a bucket when the defense is tight -- we do not have that.

I agree -- keep hoping for this senior class to step up and they just are incapable. They are just not winners. Bowman cannot graduate fast enough for my taste.

Tough to watch Duke-Carolina tonight and see the intensity and desire to win, and then compare it to our effort.

I have it and am almost done with it .......got it from the library, and let me just say that I'm glad I didn't pay for it. It's mediocre at best and definitely not a page-turner, even for the rabid college hoops fan. I'll also admit that I don't like Feinstein, but despite this I have purchased a bunch of his books and have enjoyed some of them.
My biggesst complaint is that nearly every story is about Duke, other than some brief notes on UCLA and the recap of last year's final. It is ridiculous -- the book should definitely be titled as the history of Duke & Coach K at the Final Four. Also, as the NY Times mentioned in the review, many of the stories are ones you've heard/read multiple times from Feinstein.
I have read the Miracle of St. Anthony and it is wonderful.

Thanks for the excellent post -- I agree with everything. This is a wonderful second chance, and we absolutely can't blow it. Next step -- we need to be dancing this March! Would be nice to make some noise in NY this year too.

agreed -- Coach K was outcoached -- our system, if run correctly, is tailor-made to beat his over-agressive, overplaying defense
