Bilas does a flat-out superb job with that one. I love when writers can bring it all together --the history of the program, the current state of affairs, some character analysis, and then layer on very good analysis of the basketball team and some players.

Thanks for all the reports -- I know people are reluctant to break down individual players, but how did Macklin look? Also, some had said that they thought PE JR looks like he put on some lbs and lost some explosiveness - did people see this?

What a great time to be a Hoya fan! -- getting Braswell is huge!!! Watched him on tv during an AAU game this summer and his potential is vast. We have laid the foundation for many years of being a top notch team/program. The staff is getting it done.

Good one Dan. Tough break for Paulus.
Wow, Katz is really off on that observation -- did he hear that from Dukie V? I mean, I won't even start a list of better handling big men.......frankly, I watched Duke a number of times last year and his ball handling skills did not even make an impression.

I think it's pretty close as I see them as somewhat similar players. The one thing that Crawford brings is that he seems like the best 'cutter' on the team -- he was making great backdoor cuts in his freshman year, and he has the best combination of strength and explosiveness to finish or get fouled (Sapp is no slouch here either). I've been watching some tivo'd games from last year and it surprised me how many times Owens made a cut at a crucial moment and was hit by Jeff -- in fact you could argue that this was our go-to play in tight games. Anyway, I have been wondering who was going to replace this, and Crawford seems like the most obvious, along with Sapp and Egerson.

Great quote by Ewing Jr -- why should anyone be surprised, we are ranked top 5-10 in most places......the goal should be to win the national championship!

Interesting how the Duke win helped him take notice of us --- that win was huge in so many ways.

I think people will be surprised about the contribution Rivers makes -- a tall, athletic, capable ballhandler who defends well will find minutes in our rotation I have to believe.

I agree -- the only thing that can get me through yet another Yankees loss, other than the hope that half the Yankees roster will be replaced in the offseason, is hope for this Hoya season. I may have to watch my Tivo'd Gtown-Duke game for the hundredth time..

One random note -- it is Scout that is reporting that Wright is leaning toward NC State and that they are hearing NC St or Tennessee for Hickson. To my knowledge, Gtown does not have a dedicated Scout page, hence Scout is not earning revenue from Gtown fans. Not to say they are not right in this cases, but they do have to feed their customers. Anyway, hopefully we can get Hickson on campus -- we match up tremendously well with any of these other programs/schools.

If they or anyone else leads at the moment that's fine, but let's not forget he has not visited us yet......there is no doubt that Hickson will love Gtown when he visits for Midnight Madness! RBHoya and the rest of the students, plus the coaches and team, will turn it out! The rest of the school, DC, etc. speaks for itself.

Agreed on Street & Smith -- it has been in a steady decline. Nowadays I can spend 5 minutes at a bookstore and get all the key info from it. Before the internet reading their high school section, with lists of guys' schools, would be the highlight of the fall.

Bought a copy of Lindy's - over the last few years I think they have put out a high quality product, and I say that as someone who has been buying college hoops magazines for 15 years. Anyway, some interesting quotes from JTIII:
On the guards: "Tyler will be a big cog in what we do.....and Jessie Sapp has to improve."
On Patrick Ewing Jr: "Ewing's skill level is going to surprise some people. He's such a good athlete, that's what people talk about and what jumps out. But he has worked hard on his skills."
He basically hit on the three guys who need to step up and support the core 3 if we are going to reach the heights that we all are hoping for.

I honestly don't think Dickie V does the homework he used to do -- before all the hype, he used to be known as the guy who knew everything about random recruits and unknown players.....I don't get that sense anymore.
