Are there any other former Hoyas that are playing in the tournament?

Already 1 transfer and more than last likely 2-3 more. Nobody going to stay here. The school or students or community cares. This is not ever going to be better. No home stadium to play in says a lot. This team under Cooley didn’t even play defense. Inexcusable. Nobody can win here mark it down nobody can win here. It’s just irrelevant and no one give a damn about the basketball program. Just shut it down and forget it. Never change same garbage year after freaking year. Sick of this mess. Don’t know why I’m bothering to respond to this, but . . . We’ve all been expecting Bristol to grad-transfer for weeks now (if not months). He was recognized on Senior Day. As was Ryan Mutombo. So don’t be shocked if he grad-transfers, too. If those two guys leave—with degrees in hand—it is not a sign of another mass exodus. I won’t be surprised if we have 2-3 more transfers. It’s just how college basketball is right now. Probably half of eligible players will at least put their name in the portal as a tactic to see what NIL opportunities are out there.

Fielder got in a better shot than anyone. Fielder didn’t foul Burton It’s not going to matter but that was an atrocious job of officiating. Phantom calls on us, nova dudes flopping. Trying to even up the foul count late in the half while waving off our buckets to call fouls on nova “before the shot.” We ain’t winning either way but we’re clearly playing 5 on 8 tonight.

Butler is more experienced, more physical, better defenders and has a game changer in Posh Alexander. They also got the “home court” whistle in the first half. We have better shooters, but that’s about it. Oh well, the team stayed engaged and kept it somewhat close.

A win’s a win but that was far from impressive. Other than Fielder I don’t think anyone really played all that well, and I thought EC missed some chances to “cement” the lead and build on it. After we went up 9 we seemed intent to let the air out of the ball and try to limp our way home rather than keep attacking. But at the end of the day, won on the road without our best player. So, I’ll take it and on to the BE season. Hoya Saxa.

That was gross. Glad we won but other than that I’m going to strike that game from my memory. Like what Massoud brings. Goodnight.

Was that the same at previous stops? Could be as simple as positioning on O vs D and how Cooley likes his bigs to attack the rim on O boards. His rebounding rate is WAY down this year compared to last year. Over 10% in fact. Gives some hope that it's fixable related to the D scheme more than lacking the individual skill. I think rebounding is the key moving forward (ironic REBOUND!). This team can put up some points. Defensively I don’t see much disruption or stickiness/deflections (other than Bristol), so the biggest key may be team rebounding (everyone involved), boxing out and limiting second/third chances. If we’re getting out rebounded by low-mid majors things could get ugly on the boards in the BE.

What I hope we learned from that game is that Epps should spend most time off ball. He’s a natural scorer and needs to be in a role to look for his shot rather than trying to run offense and organize. I actually think we look much more fluid with Bacote in and filling the point role. Brumbaugh isn’t there yet with his handle and with his aggressiveness. He probes the defense but is very cautious and usually just pitches the ball back to Someone else rather than take charge. The problem is that Bacote was somewhat of a disaster while in there. Disagree. I think he helped settle things down and allowed Epps and Styles to find spots they could attack from.

I’d like to see more of the Bacote, Epps, Heath, Styles, Cook lineup.

Looks like this game may only be broadcast locally. Anyone know of any streaming options or ways to watch out of market?

I'm not going to sit here and pretend everything is rosy when it's not. We as a fanbase, especially the die hards, have been through so much losing and despair related to the program that we want to find ANY glimmer of hope. And through 3 games, there's been little of that. But I think it's important to keep things in perspective. We're 3 games into a massive rebuild. Cooley took the approach of building from the ground up initially to lay a foundation rather than go full older kid mercenaries. Guys like Brumbaugh Epps Styles and Fielder all have potential but are very early in their development. And we're in a CBB world now where age and experience matter far more than it used to. Cooley and his staff are developers of teams. We will get better as the season wears on. I still think 5 BE wins and an 7-4 OOC is completely gettable if Massoud comes back healthy and we don't suffer any other major injury blows. And while 12-19 won't get anyone too excited - it's right about where Cooleys first year Fairfield and Providence teams were in year 1. Preaching patience to this fanbase seems cruel - as we've been patient for a decade - but I'd maintain much better days are ahead and there's plenty of writing on the wall to that effect. Yes, trying to take deep breaths. We have to remember that none of these players have played for this coaching staff before and are learning new systems, etc.

This board would literally combust if we lost a D2 scrimmage. SJU will still be good, but I think this shows they are far from a given to be a NCAAT team. I agree the board would combust because that’s how message boards are. But Pitino won’t be concerned; honestly losing in an exhibition is a great teaching point and helps keep the team in check when it starts to read its own clippings and thinks it’s a tourney team before they’ve done anything. Also played without probably their top three guys. Pitino will have them ready.

OK, let me flaunt my ignorance about recruiting, scholarships, and the like. Given the buzz that McKenna might join the team and redshirt this season, Ish's hand being a big question mark, the need for more backup at the forward position with or without Ish, and that we still have one scholarship still open -- what does EC and staff do now? People have said here that it's smart to save a scholy or 2 for a possible mid-year transfer, so does that scenario change at all now? Basically, I'm wondering what options exist for us and what a coach and staff might be thinking and planning as they look at the roster given recent developments. There really aren't any. I guess the question is really whether this injury is bad enough that Ish Massoud considers redshirting. When people said here that it's smart to save a scholarship for a mid-year transfer, it's because we could get a quality player for 2024-2025 without really having to deal with the bidding war of the portal, or because maybe someone would pop in August. No one popped in August. Mid year transfers would be transferring outside of the portal window and would not be eligible for 2023-2024 - they would have to sit a year like Dante Harris did. But couldn’t we theoretically recruit someone that never left the portal and have them enroll in December and be eligible from then on? Probably won’t happen and doesn’t really help with current Massoud injury but might make sense if it’s just a one year/one semester add.

Great to see Coach interacting with students like this - major breath of fresh air, very cool. It’s almost like he thinks he is part of the University! What a concept!

I’m going to guess starting five is: Epps, Heath, Styles, Akok, Cook First three off the bench: Massoud, Bristol, Brumbaugh Next two: Fielder, McKenna (maybe redshirt) Emergency big: Mutombo I think we definitely need another guard/ball handler.

Schedule is a bit of a reality check on expectations. I think it shows Cooley expects this team to be a work in progress and that the cupcakes are 300+ rather than midmajor types. It’s not going to happen overnight folks.

plus the following OOC home games Jackson State American Mount Saint Mary there is only 1 OOC home game left to schedule to meet the 16 game home contract with Cap One I’m pretty sure we’ve had 7 or 8 home games in non-conference schedule in the last few years so if there’s a contract for 16 games it would appear that this isn’t a maximum…
