This is good. Host the event this year as a trial and if it is successful you can attract sponsors and larger teams.

Don’t most MTEs involve three games? Do we think this field might yet expand?

Don’t most MTEs involve three games? Do we think this field might yet expand? Two types of MTEs: bracketed tournaments with a championship and consolation round (think Jamaica Classic) and scheduled games between the teams (which is what this one sounds like). Thus: Game 1: Mt St Mary's at Georgetown Game 2: Mt. St. Mary's at American Game 3: American at Georgetown

MTE sounds good to me if we boot American out of it next year and bring Maryland in.

I really wish we would consider annual games with GW and GMU...

I really wish we would consider annual games with GW and GMU... Agreed but it comes down to the minimum contracted games in Capital One Arena--since 2015 and excepting 2020-21, there has been a minimum of 17 home games there every season, leaving just four non-conference games for MTE's and road games. Last year's games away from DC were just four: two in Jamaica, Texas Tech, and Syracuse. If these other teams don't want to give up a home game to play there, it's not happening. To his credit, JT III was not afraid of playing on the road (with a list from 2005-10 that included Michigan, Duke, Memphis, Oregon, Old Dominion, Ball State, Navy, Tulane, JMU, Vanderbilt, Fairfield, and even Savannah State) but I have no knowledge of the minimum games that Monumental required at that time. Here were the five games which opened the 2005-06 season: 11/18/2005: at Navy 11/21/2005: at James Madison 11/26/2005: Vanderbilt (MCI Center) 12/03/2005: at Oregon 12/08/2005: at Illinois

Here are Cooley's OOC schedules at Providence by rank: 2023: 352 2022: 152 2021: 103 2020: 217 2019: 237 2018: 193 2017: 287 2016: 259 2015: 93 2014: 139 2013: 306 2012: 342 So, a handful of years where the schedule was super easy and way too weak for my liking (like last year, or 2012, or 2017), with other years that were okay (2015, 2021, 2022). Hopefully, Cooley will step up his out of conference scheduling at Georgetown. I don't think Cooley will schedule on average as poorly as Ewing, but hopefully he'll up the scheduling game now that he's moved to Georgetown.

I really wish we would consider annual games with GW and GMU... That’s what I want also due to them being in decent conferences and it can be at cap one which would sell a lot of tickets with both schools being so close

As of today, our schedule has the BE games, plus TCU and Syracuse at home and an away game vs TBD B10 opponent (and the rumored yet unannounced MTE?). With what I think might be the toughest BE season ahead, our schedule as is looks pretty good for the rankings and post-season consideration. Granted, the rosters are still in flux, but that strong base allows Cooley some leeway when filling out the rest of the schedule.

I am fine with all the change in the program if year 1 OOC is on the weaker end but in general you have to do better than this...

Same here, year 1 is fine to do whatever but as people have mentioned many times as to why he left Providence: the program ceiling in relation to his coaching ability. Which is theoretically elevated at georgetown so it is fair to expect an elevated level of scheduling by him in future years. I think he will have that on the agenda as it is another way to get the atmosphere better at cap one by getting better teams in.

Hope to see them get that going.

We should play Maryland every year, and also some smattering of GW, Mason, American, Howard. If we want more success with local recruiting, making DMV rivalries “a thing” is a good start. Plus, we always have some games against teams in the same range as these locals from an RPI/NET/Kenpom perspective. We might as well pick the teams that might sell a few more tickets.
