We should play Maryland every year, and also some smattering of GW, Mason, American, Howard. If we want more success with local recruiting, making DMV rivalries “a thing” is a good start. Plus, we always have some games against teams in the same range as these locals from an RPI/NET/Kenpom perspective. We might as well pick the teams that might sell a few more tickets. No brainer of no brainers…hopefully this coaching staff isn’t afraid of local matchups like previous administrations have been. However, Cooley avoiding Brown while at Providence doesn’t bode well…

No need to be a Debbie Downer. We will be playing Maryland and the local schools on a regular basis, coach said as much.

However, Cooley avoiding Brown while at Providence doesn’t bode well… Can we stop acting like Brown is Providence's natural area rival - or even close to the best team in the area? Providence played Brown 7 times under Cooley, but Providence played URI every year except for the COVID year where the non-conference schedule got messed up and shuffled around UMass, Brown, BC, Yale, and Vermont in the other years. If we schedule Maryland every year after next but don't schedule one of Howard or George Washington or American, it's a vast improvement over the past 50 years and absolutely no one here is going to care about the missing game. I want a decent non-conference as much as anyone else, but next year is a bridge year and as long as we don't do anything mind blowingly arrogant and stupid for next year like withdraw from a premier national tournament that gets us blacklisted for the future ( www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/georgetown-wont-be-participating-in-nikes-big-pk80-tournament-in-november-after-all/ ) or put together a schedule this terrible ( nypost.com/2017/09/12/patrick-ewings-first-georgetown-schedule-is-a-joke/ ) I think we're ok.

It also doesn’t hurt to save that travel expense $$$$ during OOC

Well usually I would start complaining about a team like this...but if it bring Tyler Adams home for a game I am all for it.

I think it’s pretty obvious at this point we aren’t making the tournament this year so I’m kind of indifferent towards the schedule as long as it isn’t a total joke lol as you need to rebuild the confidence of the team and fans. Some good news some point about a solid home and home with a good MTE next year should wash any negativity away

Savannah State next? We owe a game to Mike Brennan’s AU to thank him for last year’s loss/long-term win.

Savannah State next? We owe a game to Mike Brennan’s AU to thank him for last year’s loss/long-term win. Georgetown is in an MTE with American. Brennan, however, would have to get a ticket to attend. Georgetown was so historically bad that beating the Hoyas wasn't enough for AU to keep their coach.

Normally I hate the 300+ games, but this one makes sense if you're going to have one. Rutgers at the RAC will be a nice one, I saw Georgetown play there once before, I highly recommend going to anybody who is nearby.

One of our few gripes with Cooley over the years was the soft OOC scheduling. Granted, it’s tough to convince marquee teams to come to Providence, where you’re not only risking an L but there aren’t as many recruits around to show your program off to, but was still disappointing. Imagine that won’t be as big an issue for y’all since the DMV is pretty flush with players to impress

I was responding to the more subtle than usual dig by Boya about how bad that team was last season… glad to see any former Hoya return in a role in the basketball world but also hope we can actually consistently beat this range of teams in the coming years and not really schedule them often in future seasons.

"Maryland basketball has regularly played Villanova in preseason "secret scrimmages" recently, the two programs testing themselves informally before the real games start. But two of the Mid-Atlantic region's bigger-name programs, who are located about 130 miles apart and often compete for the same recruits, haven't met in a real game for a long time. Until now. Jon Rothstein of College Hoops Today reported Monday that the Terps and Wildcats have been paired for next season's edition of the Gavitt Games, the annual event putting teams from the Big Ten against opponents from the Big East. It's another marquee opponent for Kevin Willard's second team, which also has a trip to UCLA and a solid Big Ten slate. The Terps will also play in the Asheville Championship. Willard tried to schedule Georgetown and his friend, new Hoyas coach Ed Cooley." 247sports.com/college/maryland/article/maryland-basketball-schedule-villanova-terps-gavitt-games-210604951/

"NCAA Basketball: Ranking the 8 Gavitt Games matchups for 2023-24 season... 7. Georgetown Hoyas at Rutgers Scarlet Knights The Hoyas have a new head coach in Ed Cooley and a completely revamped roster. Jay Heath is surrounded by several young newcomers, including Dontrez Styles of UNC and Jayden Epps of Illinois. Rutgers, on the other hand, has lost a couple of guys in Cam Spencer and Caleb McConnell. The Knights still have to deal with both Paul Mulcahy and Cliff Omoruyi in the NBA Draft process. If both of them are gone, this game would lose even more interest. It’s likely to be a close game but there’s not a ton of talent on either side that would make you want to tune it." bustingbrackets.com/2023/05/24/ncaa-basketball-ranking-8-gavitt-games-matchups-2023-24-season/2/
