IU/UI Tied under 20....
On Edit: HOLY BALLS what a last 10 seconds with the steal, then the block... AND THEN THE WINNING BASKET UNDER A SECOND LEFT.
...
I mean, B1G basketball is boring and awful...

Polls do count before the end of the yr. How much coverage of our St. John's win did you see on tv? Let me answer that for you. NOT MUCH. Not in the rankings=decreased highlights on tv. The more exposure at this time of the yr, the better. I agree with the above sentiment. Although I'm not going to lose any sleep over being ranked 23 rather than 18, appearing in the rankings is important for the exposure it brings the program.

Ohio St. / Wisconsin is 4-3 with 12:53 left in the first half. I'm switching back to Chopped.

Well, Lville shot 39% (33% from 3) - yes, 50% FT - so they weren't great, but certainly not any worse than we've been typically holding opponents. Obviously their turnover numbers were uncharacteristic, and we cannot expect Russ Smith to shoot as poorly every night out.
What I found somewhat encouraging on the other side was that Nova didn't "go off" from 3 in a typical upset-esque performance. They shot a high percentage, but only hit 7 3s for the game. Rebounds and fouls were even.

Big win for Nova, but rushing the court might be a bit much...

Cooley's proved to be a great recruiter (even if the guys he brings in aren't always available to play) and the teams that he's coached have been a marked improvement over the (expected to be improved) Keno Davis years.
I expect a win, but I think we should keep our expectations near the Vegas line. They have Cotton and Council who are obviously dangerous BE guards, and Dunn who was a top-20(ish) guy out of high school. Batts is enormous enough to be a handful for Mikael (or Moses... let's just say 'our starting big man').
I will most likely continue to put the beer guy's kids through college during the course of this game Wednesday.

I'm going to NY for the game on Saturday, and I'd rather not cry in public in front of my younger sister.
Let's go Hoyas! You're better than this!

I was writing a post defending Mikael... then he dribbled off his foot handling the ball in the open court for no apparent reason. You're on your own, big guy.

"Graphic: 1-9, missed last 5 shots"
Well yeah, but that also means we missed our first 3 shots too.

Groundhog Day. If I have to woo Andy McDowell to get us out of this, I will. If I carve an ice sculpture of Hoyabinx, will that help us along? This will hurt less than Nerlens (that's a lie)

[/li][li] A clarification on the Ken Pom 3 Pt thing. His point was not that there were not better or worse 3pt defenses, it was that the offenses essentially react to the tougher shots by not shooting. Meaning that good 3 pt defenses don't tend to manifest in low %s, but rather in fewer attempts. [/li][li] I think this is very true, but I'd also bet that it also manifests itself in a lower %. It's just that the way he did the study -- comparing half 1 to half 2 -- there's some much noise in three point shooting percentages, that small average changes aren't easy to see in the data. Either way, I think the point is: good 3 pt defense shows up in fewer attempts than expected more often than not; and if teams can consistently decrease %, it's a smaller effect than the normal variation of shooting. Which is all really a long way of saying: the fact that they shot 50% is mostly because they were hot/good shooters.
Agreed. And They did take half as many threes in the second half and I did think for the most part when the first unit was in we did do a better job guarding the three. Despite the fact that they still hit 50% of them.
I thought in the 2nd the Hoyas did a good job of limiting the number of open shots. The fact that a number of their contested, wild shots went in isn't something that the defense can be held accountable for (the first half is an entirely different issue COVER TANKGIRL FOR THE LOVE OF GOD!)

...Otto Porter, Jr. ...
However, a name doesn't mean the player will be any good. Look at Jordan's kids.
