Maybe this works out ok, but there is no spinning this - it’s an awful look for Ewing and the program. Of all players and positions this narrative is especially damning. If this narrative looks bad, but Ewing reloads the roster and we have a competitive, winning team next year, who cares? If somehow the program found a way to spin this, but then added a sub-Q big man, ran the same scheme and ended up .500 and losing the "Georgetown invitational" Wednesday game, who cares that they managed the narrative? I know perception can sometimes equal reality in college hoops, but last offseason's narrative was way worse and it certainly didn't stop us from bringing in our best recruiting class yet (edit: I mean, best class yet under Ewing) or winning the BET... Beyond speculation, unless someone on the board has inside knowledge I haven't seen spilled yet in this thread--we don't know if Ewing saw this coming a mile away and tried his utmost to keep Q onboard anyway, or if he was 100% blindsided. My personal feeling is there are plenty of quality options at the 5 available (to say nothing of the surfeit we already have on the roster) so land one of those and onward. Or, blow it and downward. This news alone doesn't feel determinative for the future of the program.

Anyone who's going to be a college basketball fan going forward (but ESPECIALLY while COVID-induced leniency is in play) needs to steel themselves to heavy season-to-season turnover in rosters. It's not a reflection on any particular program as much as it is the new state of play in the college game.
I enjoyed watching Q play but the limitations of a traditional-big-man-centered offense was very much on display in the NCAAs. Whether Q's departure will change Ewing's perspective on that remains to be seen but I am ever the optimist. It seems evident that the staff has been extremely active in reaching out to transfers, they have a strong track record of attracting transfers that can play, and there is no shortage of available talent out there. Might sound crazy to say but I am looking forward to seeing our 2021-2022 roster take shape.

You know it’s a feisty HoyaTalk post-loss thread when I can’t read a third of the posts because all the folks I’ve muted are out in force!
I never, ever would have thought two weeks ago the team would be in a position to take this whooping in round one of the NCAAs. Tough loss, we obviously could have defended the 3 better and just played better all around, but Colorado was a superior team and they were just unconscious today. Doesn’t take away from an epic BET run or my general confidence going forward.
By any objective metric the team overperformed this season and we have a lot to look forward to next year. Despite the rollercoaster season I enjoyed it all! Hoya Saxa.

Even as an eternal Hoya optimist, I am beside myself. A week ago I felt like the season was already a success. Go Hoyas!! Keep pulling those strings Coach!

Ewing and the staff have had us in a lot of Top 5s for 5-star recruits, and while that speaks to their ability to spot talent early and impress at an in-home visit, it was fair to wonder if we’d ever be able to close. Well, wonder no more.
This recruitment seemed to be handled by all involved with more class than perhaps is typical—I’m glad that worked in our favor!
Congrats to the staff. Welcome Aminu!! Hoya Saxa and Merry Christmas to all.

We don't have a single player who can put the ball on the floor and attack the basket with any consistency, except perhaps Dante Harris. Dante Harris getting the start tonight!

Super weird seeing a game vs WVU without their rambunctious traveling supporters making a ruckus from the 400 seats, but can’t complain about how it’s going!

Great news. Hoya Saxa, Kobe! Ewing has proven (to me) he can inspire the team to greater heights, so it’s great to see the 2020-2021 roster filling out as needed.

Muresan with the free throws to ice a hard fought victory in which we barely had enough players to field a team.
What a truly insane season. Are you not entertained?!

"You want Mac, y'all got him." Did [Redacted]’s uncle inadvertently craft the official Hoya rallying cry for the 2019-2020 season?!

I appreciate the team’s fighting spirit when facing adversity...they kept it close which won’t hurt when the computer formulas are crunching at bubble time. We made too many mental errors to pull the shock upset, and the refs made the game unwatchable for stretches, but despite the loss I think this was a very productive OOC trip to MSG!

Phenomenal to have a guy like Yurtseven delivering a double-double every night from the start of his Hoyas career.

I don’t love it, but I can live with losing to UNC. The staff did a creditable job on Davis and knew when it was time to pivot. Onward.

Glad Cooley is staying in place. He's such an asset to the conference.
