Wholly expected but a pleasant surprise nonetheless. I hope the university president listens to the athletic director and the fans who have stuck through this nadir and we hire an experienced, competent collegiate coach who can take us to the top of the Big East. Someday I’ll reflect on the poignancy of this tragic tale but right now I just feel relief.

Given that the vast majority of coaches we’d want to hire are not presently available to accept the job (contra Syracuse), I don’t get why it’s necessarily a disaster that they haven’t announced Ewing’s termination right this second. It’s not like they can’t negotiate with other coaches’ agents before they tell us Ewing is out. There’s a certain amount of cloak and dagger here that is required in any scenario.
(Of course, I wouldn’t be at all surprised if JDG is hiding under the bed and weeping instead of aggressively dealing with this issue, but the lack of public announcement this AM isn't the reason why I feel that way.)

It’s pretty obvious that they couldn’t announce his retirement/farewell tour in advance because he doesn’t consent to it. He is making them fire him.

wondering if NIL really hurt Ewing. Its been an adjustment for some coaches. Honestly, recruiting was never his problem. He got talent in the door before and after NIL happened. The problem was getting that talent to gel and develop, managing and retaining key players…or any semblance of in-game coaching strategy and adjustments on the level of a high major program.

The complete cessation of recruiting news speaks volumes. I just hope the bandaid is ripped off swiftly.

I wanted Cooley last time around and I think he would be a home run hire

It’s quite an accomplishment to have the basketball program make me more negative and pessimistic on the future of the university in general, but here we are. Simply running a mediocre basketball team is not that difficult, especially when we have an AD who is clearly competent at overseeing all our other programs. And yet we have perhaps the worst program in D1, a complete unwatchable embarrassment that demoralizes and drives out players on an annual basis, while lighting millions of dollars a year on fire for a university that isn’t exactly known for its financial cushion. Great job by you, Jack DiGioia

of all the things I could foresee the contemporary undergraduate student body marching/chanting about, men’s basketball W-Ls is pretty low on the list. Alumni should probably be concerned about the volume of $$ that JDG is throwing away on MBB patronage jobs however

the one good thing about the total apocalypse of the program right now—W/Ls, transfers, APR, off court issues—is that IF JDG/the board decided to move on from RT/PE (I don’t have my hopes up), any public complaints from that faction would be deemed irrelevant by any objective observer.

Great to see the PT for J Riley and D’Ante getting some game action. No question this is a stronger team than last year and that our offseason recruiting was strong. I hope the coaching rises to the occasion.

This is horrific relative to my expectations, but a stress test for this team might as well come early so we can see if there’s any fight in ‘em. Go Hoyas

Can’t wait for the season to start so we can cease consideration of how the Marquette blog community foresees our chances in 2022-23

I have been waiting for gameplay to resume for months. Succeed or fail, I will always back the Hoyas. I’m excited to see Murray and the rest of the Nickelberry cadre play for us, plus it’s our old nemesis Juan Dixon. Let’s go

If the Twerps fans are grouchy, it’s gotta be a good day for the Hoyas. If this team can’t get its defensive act together with Murray on the roster, it never will. Great pickup!!

am I insane to be optimistic about the Ighoefe transfer in terms of a sign we will be reloading at the big man spot? I mean, I’m clearly insane to still be tacitly supporting Hoya hoops, but beyond that

To the extent this author’s critiques are relevant, they are not original to anyone following the Hoya discourse. Until he decides to sign his name so I can see if I care, I can get all the pseudonymous Ronny Thompson denouncements I need right here in the cursed realm of HoyaTalk!!!
