Need the guys to build off of the good things that happened last night and clean up the bad.
Pickett's not going to go 19/18 nightly the rest of the way, but continuing to improve his shot selection and cut down on overdribbling/TOs will keep him effective. The rebounding is something that needs to be a constant, especially if we start shifting towards small ball instead of Timmy minutes at the backup 5.
Bile showed he can rough up a low major. Can he be that efficient and under control against a halfway decent team? Hasn't happened yet, but will be interesting to see. Assuming Clark is out for Friday, we have no choice but to play him big minutes at the backup 3/4, so he needs to be ready.
Still waiting for Q to develop an understanding of when to attack the post and when to kick it out when help comes at him. Nova won't double him as much as Coppin did, but they will try to force him into dumb turnovers when the opportunity presents itself. He needs to play a much smarter game on Fri. and figure out a way to stop fouling so much. Placing these things on Ewing as his responsibility. In a lot of instances, Q's side clears out when he posts up, so there isn't even a teammate to kick it out to. Whether that's by design or just a mistake on the part of our guards, it needs to be corrected.
Jalen Harris has to figure out how to play at more than one speed. He also needs to understand who can catch a pass in heavy traffic and who can't. Nova will make us pay for live ball turnovers, so it's imperative that Harris takes care of the ball and puts pressure on Nova without being reckless.
We've hung tough with WVU so keeping this a competitive game shouldn't be beyond us.

Nova isn't going to miss those wide open 3's like Coppin. Gotta understand that we can't play man defense and figure out how to mix up various zone schemes or Robinson-Earle will eat us alive. If I recall we hung tough in our last game with Nova last year. I think we will see a lot of our bench players in this game since I expect Pickett and Blair and Wahab to get in early foul trouble. Anything short of a blowout will give me some comfort.

Very tough game against a really good team. If the Hoyas turn it over 15+ times against Nova they will likely get blown out. If they can find a way to take better care of the ball, and Nova only has a decent shooting day, then it could be a close game. I think they Hoyas should be able to create some decent shots against Nova and so far this year, they have done OK making open shots. Need to contest shots without fouling. If Nova gets hot making contested 3's, then it is going to be tough for the Hoyas to stay up with them, but at that point you tip your hat to the better team.

If the Hoyas do not play better perimeter defense or cut their TOs by at least 10 this will be a very ugly game.

Wahab is going to really struggle when Robinson-Earl takes him away from the basement. Nova should be able to run Pick and Pop with Robinson-Earl as the screener - giving him either wide open 3s or Wahab awkwardly trying to close out on him for the easy blow-by
We might want to try a lot of the smaller lineup again, and switch everything on defense. Nova would probably then try to get us to switch until they had a big advantage for a post up, then have the ballhandler back our smaller defender down into the post. This back down stuff has been the core of their half court offense this year.
would rather lose by having their guards/wings try to post up our guards than by Robinson-Earl killing Wahab away from the hoop. Post up offense is inherently less efficient.
We may want to pull out the zone again when Wahab is in the game. Nova can dice us up in the zone, but I think we might give them a bit more of a problem in the zone than in a man defense when Wahab is in the game.

I wonder if we'll go small some and let Pickett guard Robinson-Earl.

While it's been talked about how Wahab is going to have a tough time against Nova's frontline, I do think he can take advantage of them as well. He's shown a propensity for drawing fouls against other big men and I expect that to continue against Nova. Just needs to avoid silly fouls on the other end and then attack the post on offense. I'd bet that Wright will have them doubling him every time so if he stays strong with the ball, he'll get fouled. While I'd love him to pass out of the double more, it just doesn't seem like he's comfortable doing that yet but he still has to keep his eyes up. Both our Cs have been actively defending the basket and with the rollout of a small ball lineup, I want them to pursue those blocks even more. Don't hold back at the worry of fouls, we have plenty of guys and options to fill out the 5.
If we do decide to go zone and Nova goes 5 out, we're going to get destroyed from the corners...Coppin was getting that shot open every time since Wahab cant cover from the center. It's definitely a better option then man against a PnR offense but Nova is going to make us pay. If our guards and wings can't stay infront of them in Man and we go Zone, I wouldn't mind seeing some Malcolm in the middle since it seems like he can recover quicker and has a bit more length.

I don't disagree that Q will have a hard time defending Robinson Earl on the perimeter, but if your going to give Nova anything, maybe having Robinson Earl take a bunch of 3's (also taking Nova's best rebounder away from the basket) is not a bad thing to give up. Robinson Earl can make some 3's but I would not say that is the best part of his game. Have Q close him out under control so he doesn't get blown by and just contest any 3's he wants to take and hope his shooting percentage is not that great on Friday. The kid from Coppin made two 3's last night and it looked like it was going to be an issue, but then I don't think he made another one all night. I do realize Robinson Earl is a much better player than the kid from Coppin last night The Hoyas are going to have to give the Nova offense something, and I would prefer to give them 3's from their center than open up the lane and let them attack the rim with their wing players because Q is at the 3 point line defending Robinson Earl

We are averaging 18.5 turnovers per game (3 of our 4 games against low majors). Nova is averaging 8.8 turnovers per game (4 of 5 games vs major conference teams). It will get ugly if we don’t rein in the sloppiness.

For what it's worth, here's how JRE and Qudus performed in last year's Georgetown/Villanova games
Game 1: Qudus - 13 pts, 4 rbs, 0 turnovers, 0 fouls, 15 minutes JRE - 14 pts, 7 rbs, 4 turnovers, 4 fouls, 38 minutes
Game 2: Qudus - 9 pts, 8 rbs, 1 turnover, 1 foul, 30 minutes JRE - 13 pts, 7 rbs, 1 turnover, 2 fouls, 38 minutes

I think Gillespie obviously needs to be accounted for if we have a shot. Serious question: who is our best perimeter on-ball defender? How would you deal with him?

I would only keep Qudus on JRE on the inside...if/when JRE slides away or to the corner, I would have Pickett switch off to him, making it more difficult for him to shoot over the long but more mobile Jamorko...if JRE drives to the hoop, Qudus can set up to take the charge or block the shot...Gillespie's go to move is the post up, so you need a taller player on him ideally (not D. Harris)...Ideally for me it would be Kobe, but I'm not sure he'll be ready...so maybe Carey or even Bile on occssion...we may need some bench guys to contribute due to he matchup difficulties (Sibley, Holloway, Berger)...

They don’t have Sadiq Bey, so that’s a huge bonus, especially last year when we had no wings and he could just shoot over the much smaller Jagan Mosley.
