Look, guys, we have a team - and a program - that's mediocre on a good day. I don't get why people are acting like we should expect anything different. In that context, I *like* that Primo (and Heath, I guess) had good games today. I'm still going to cheer for them, and I'm not going to bash individual players (coaches and the administration are different). The choice, unfortunately, is to settle for lower expectations or follow another team/sport. I'm actually doing both. The Michigan-Ohio State game was incredible today!

I agree with the sentiment sadly expressed by njhoya. It's horrible. We need a very clean break from our past.
But I find one silver lining: Ryan looked good out there today. Not perfect, maybe, but very good, and it was heartening to see. Of course, he hardly saw the floor in the second half, so there ya go. He deserves better than this.

I think Dante's gone for good, but not "officially" gone.

Bringing him back is the classy move. Do it if only for that reason.

What happens with another loss? Not sure he survive through Christmas. He survives because he is Patrick Ewing and a prominent link to the "family" the administration is so in love with. They care far more about that than about performance, athletes' academics, multiple disgruntled transfers and dropouts from the program, or anything else. He's not going anywhere unless he wants to.

Nice, thoughtful post, bluegray. But I think for many of us we're not just judging a new lineup after three games. We're judging an always-new lineup where everyone changes except the head coach, over five-plus years. And what we have seen is a program that can compete with mid-majors, but not with many teams in the bigger conferences. A program that has a horrible academic record, something that matters to me a lot. A coach whose players don't seem to like him for very long. And against Coppin and Northwestern, we saw the continuation of an old story, not the beginning of a new one. I'm an older guy who has been following college basketball literally since I was a kid in the late 1950s. I know something about this. I want a program I can be proud of, like I was under most of JT3's tenure, and that's not what I'm seeing now.
I can hope, and I do hope, that we will do better this year. But I doubt we will. I would agree that some posters here sometimes take that to an extreme, but I haven't been one of them. Unfortunately, I think they are mostly right, if not always tactful about it.

That was a *real* problem in the second half. Right after Murray missed a shot, he would be slow getting back and his guy would blow right by him for a score.

The reason I am not concerned about that now is that under Ewing, we are one of the worst high major basketball teams. Could it get worse? Not much, given that we are already one of the worst high major programs. And Ewing has no past indication of success on which to rely for hope (as I did for JT3 in 2017). No at large bids, no +.500 Big East seasons. The problems are not the roster, it's the man at the top. Additionally, Ewing has consistently shown an inability to retain players, and so, there's no guarantee that if Ewing stays another year or two the roster won't be entirely different again. . . . We are already well on our way to the DePauling of Georgetown basketall. We are a laughing stock, people follow our games to see if we will lose to the Coppin States of the world, and everyone but a handful of Hoya faithful see that Ewing is a once-great player who simply doesn't have the same level of coaching chops. I still say we should be better this year than last year, but without change at the top (and not letting Ronny Thompson decide future coaches), it's hard to see the program turning a corner anytime soon. It is a real shame, because I think we actually have solid talent this year. I have no doubt if we had someone like Matta/Smart/Pitino/Cooley/McDermott coaching our team we'd have plenty of Big East wins. This is a great post, but I have a couple of minor quibbles: 1. Look, the truth is that we are not really a "high major" program. We have become a mid-major program, albeit while playing in a high major conference and spending high major money. 2. DePaul looked pretty darn good beating Minnesota the other night. Right now, I'd take that.

I don't get why anyone is getting worked up about whether there was a direct question or not. It's pretty obvious that he doesn't have a waiver right now, and that Georgetown wishes that he did. It's a fair assumption that, behind the scenes, we're doing whatever we can, which might not be much.

FS1 is showing something called “College Basketball” on its schedule tonight at 8.30 eastern but there is no mention of our game. (The Providence game is specifically listed at 6.30.) Anyone know what is going on? I should add that I live in DC.

Primo and Murray both looked great (as did their teammate Will Thomas from Morgan State). Primo may be the best passer we’ve had in quite a while.

I didn't stay for the third game today, so I missed Jay Heath. Great report. Of the players I did see today, I was super impressed with Anglin: not just his scoring but also his decision-making. He repeatedly found the open man with a great pass. I was also impressed with Bass's athleticism, but thought he seemed a bit raw; I suspect he had several turnovers.
I hope Murray's eye is OK. And I felt for his teammate (#4) who seemed to suffer a potentially serious lower body agency.
We may have a surfeit of talented guards this year. Nice problem to have.

Murray left the game some time ago with an apparent eye injury and has not returned

Qudus more workmanlike today. Ezewiro has had moments. No Bristol, also no announcer, which makes it less fun. Wish I was seeing more from Dante.
Was just told Rodney Pryor is in the game, which explains why #13 is taking and making a lot of shots.

You know, I think "the current state of our Hoya basketball program" is embarrassingly and inexcusably bad. Like many of us, I've been a fan for decades, and a season ticket holder and donor for the last two. The constant attrition is the worst part for me, and a 21-game losing streak kinda speaks for itself. We need much better coaches and would be helped by better players at just about every position. But could we please stop bashing individual players? It's really diminishing the experience of reading this board.

I love Dawn Staley. Kind of agree that this isn't the time for experimentation, but she's awesome.
