I wish that substitution patterns (which definitely were bad IMO) were the only reason we lost tonight.

westend -
Not sure if you're addressing me, but in-game problems "plague" every program. You tend to have that when 18-21 year olds play.
The volume of them mystified me tonight, but so did the issues on the bench.

The last 8 minutes of this game were much more painful to watch than the last 5 minutes of GU v. UConn '96 BET final. This game meant a TON more.
Maybe I should just go to bed, but in that game we were jockeying for 1 v. 2 seed IN THE TOURNAMENT. Tonight, we're up 15 late and SJU does not have Marcus Hatten, Boo Harvey, Chris Mullin, Walter Berry, or anyone else who scares anyone. And we are fighting for our tournament lives. Yes, the '96 team had much more experience, but we don't have enough to close that game out?
I love watching college hoops, and I know our team, for the most part, is a bunch of kids, but tonight was painful.
I apologize for the outburst - it will go away soon.

Bando,
Are you really comparing the talent on this team to 2003? Seriously?

Bando,
My freshman year was 88-89. I've seen the best, and the worst, in the last 20 years (without the satisfaction of an NCAA title).
This was a HORRIFIC loss tonight. A game we cannot lose. Up 15 - LATE- tournament on the line. And we lose.
If you think a bit of that isn't on III, IMO, you are mistaken.
Trust me, watching the game in person, there were plenty of execution issues during the game. But among those around me (who are better x's and o's guys than I), we could have done better personnel-wise.

Honestly, to me this was worse than the walk-on SJU loss.
In terms of needing to win the game, up by 15 with about 8 minutes left (I'm sure I'm a bit inaccurate since there's NO WAY I will play that game back), to that team - and LOSE? really? REALLY?
I honestly don't know how to describe it. Yes, I understand that I'm 38 and these are kids playing hoops. I get it. But I really have no idea how we could have lost that game. Yes, our rebounding wasn't good. Yes, our unforced errors were RIDICULOUS. I still can't believe we could not beat that team tonight.
I LOVE watching us play hoops. I've been watching us no matter what since my freshman year in 1989. How - does - that - happen?
I know I'm venting, but if I can't do it on a message board, where can I? Free throws. Unbelievable. How many big FTs can we miss??? Seriously?
Greg - my seats tonight were way better than I deserve. I was under the basket on our offensive end in the 2nd half. Can you PLEASE go up w/in 6 feet of the basket? Please? You are good. Honestly. We all like you. Please shoot the ball.
I know it's fresh, but right now this loss hurts nearly as much as Duke '89, FSU '92, UConn '96, Xavier '90, Minnesota '93, SJU '03, Harvey Thomas throwing the ball out of bounds v. Miami (circa ?), ND 4OTs, etc......My point isn't that this is that worst ever, but for me, right now, given this team, it IS the worst ever......
Someone on this team needs to WANT to win games - EVERY GAME. Right now, other than CW (most of the time) and Jessie (sometimes), it's difficult to determine who wants it. Easy for me to say, I know, as someone who doesn't go to practice, listen to JTIII about what we should do each possession, etc. Hell, I admit I never played any organized hoops above CYO. What I do know, however, is getting after it, no matter what.
This team did not get after it, especially after the under 8:00 minute timeout.

I have so many tix to dole out that we won't be at Cafe 31 before the game - the tight bar area just not very conducive for a group of 27.
However, I'm sure to be there post game for a bit....

Let's hear how many rabid HoyaTalk folks and their friends are bringing it at the game tomorrow........
As I said in pre-game thread, there will be about 25 Hoya faithful all together in Section 20.......

Is the 'Nova Gamewatch still at Bodean's. My brother-in-law (a Nova grad who roots for Hoyas unless playing 'nova - sorry Elvado) is interested in watching game and would love to be able to watch w/others who actually care about NCAA hoops there.
He was telling me the place has an upstairs and a downstairs and was looking to make sure he reserves a table in the right location - there's also a big Ireland v. England rugby match that day.
Thanks in advance for anyone in the know!

While it seems like last year Joey, the three 3s he hit were v. Tennessee in the Old Spice Classic...

Certainly not attempting to denigrate anyone, but that Irvin Church-Charles Harrison backcourt was often something to behold. Their FGM and FGA always seemed to have a spread of at least 10:
3-13 4-14.....

May be hanging in NYC instead of commuting to suburbia after work to watch the game.
Assume most still go to the Pourhouse (I know some may shy away from their for the Duke game b/c it's also a Duke bar, but not a 'Cuse bar, is it?)?

Watched the Thunder-Knicks second half. Thought Jeff looked great. Although he missed three FTs down the stretch, believe he was 8-11 from the line, played some decent D and hit a few big shots, including one w/shot clock about to buzz w/his man in his face from about 21 feet...

I think quite a bit of the "shut down defense" issue you saw (and I agree at times we weren't "tight") relates to McAlarney's shooting range. Like him or not, the guy can stroke it. Having to guard a guy 23 feet from the basket makes it a little harder to defend everyone else.

Our guards shot poorly - again. We didn't execute at the FT line.
Honestly, that's about it.
This "if Roy were here" stuff is kinda silly. There's this thing called "eligibility" and "student athlete" thingy that prevented him from being on the floor. Monroe is a different player than Roy. Monroe played his third BE game. I think I'll keep him.
