While I believe this is a rebuilding year of sorts, it is frustrating to watch us get worked on the glass when we have size on the bench.
I think we solve some of these rebounding woes if we go with Monroe at the 5, Vaughn at the 4, Summers at the 3 (where he belongs), Freeman at the 2 (where he belongs), and Wright at the 1.
Sapp can still get his minutes off the bench, and I would start playing Sims more at the 4. I like Clark, and Wattad can provide an occasional spark.
0-3 was possible after the brutal start to the conference schedule, so 1-2 isn't that bad.
But it's only going to get worse unless we start rebounding better. Vaughn is a big body and can be useful. We're not any worse offensively with Vaughn in instead of Sapp.
Casually.

We're already a very big team. There's nothing short about 6-11, 6-8, 6-4, 6-3, 6-1 starting at the college level. Pomeroy has us as the 14th tallest team in the nation, weighted for minutes. Height isn't the problem, not putting a body on anybody is the problem.

Agreed....I thought we did a better job in this game, granted against a much weaker rebounding team, we need to continue to show better effort on the boards. Do love Greg's knack for finding the offensive glass though.

Eh, we didn't get worked on the boards. +5 according to ESPN and +9 from Yahoo (both minus team rebound numbers). And there's no way Sapp is less of an offensive threat than Vaughn, even if Jessie is mired in a deep shooting slump.

First, I don't believe this will play out as a rebuilding year. And while I would like to see what that rotation could produce, and while I would really like to see Jessie lead our bench rotation because of the added productivity I believe would come from it, I would really like to see a front line of Monroe, Sims and Summers. I think Sims earned 10-15mpg tonight. And I think he's shown us a tad bit more, especially in terms of spark that the first unit seems to be lacking. And while I like Austin at 2, I would almost prefer to see Clark play the point at get Chris to 2 as Chris may be starting to actually understand he performs best for this team if he goes to the hoop and Jason still seems a bit too tentative offensively to play off guard.

I would go 1) Chris, 2) Jessie, 3) Dajuan, 4) Henry, 5) Greg
Julian's not going to help us. Henry will, and it's obvious to me that he really just needs to play, and if he plays in the starting lineup, he's going to contribute. Austin can score in bunches off the bench, and we don't sacrifice that much shooting. But I, under no circumstances, would ever, EVER, want to see Julian sniffing major minutes. At least not this year

Wright, Clark, Freeman, Summers, Monroe start
Henry first big off bench
Sapp first guard off bench
Then Omar rotates for freeman and or summers with the 4 guard line up.
Julian drop out of rotation. He does nothing for the team.

“I had a great time tonight,” said Harangody. “This is what Big East basketball is about, playing with the guys on this team. This is why we’re in the weight room at 6 in the morning, working out, running. We had a great time out there tonight.” That kind of size wins rebounding battles in college

last time i checked rebounding is about blocking out your man, desire and heart. Also it seems that we have 6 ft 11 monroe and 6 ft 8 in summers on the court most of the game so size shoudlnt be an issue either. We just have to want it more and we should hold our own. Does that mean were going to be the baddest rebounding team ever... no but it does mean we shouldnt get embarrassed like we did against pitt.

i wonder about just getting a big juco banger (they exist, e.g., half of every big 12 teams frontcourt), ill take my chances with a banger that doesn't fit the system but hits the glass more than sims/vaughn types that arent good enough to be featured here (although its early for both). that being said i defer to JT III, who i believe in more than any other coach in CBBAL.

Win the boards with nearly 20% coming from the bench and get a monster put back jam from a reserve guard and all people do is grip about getting pounded on the boards and weak reserves? hmmmm, somebody's been smoking my stash.

It seems a little late to tinker this much with the line-up. I think JT3's set on the starters. It does not mean minutes will not shift (to Clark/Sims hopefully). However, Vaughn has proven he is lost on both ends, he does not use his size to play and we really do not need a 6'11" small forward. Sims may be better but I am not sure we can afford to give him the minutes he needs to really make strides.
It seems to me, the Hoyas lost last night because Summers got in early foul troouble, we missed FTs, we missed wide open shots and ND is the best home team in the entire country. I am not sure tinkering with line-ups changes any of this. I get the rebounding issues but like Barker stressed in today's article, if you make even some shots in JT3's "system" you win games. We did not.

I agree with hoyalawyer and daytonahoya.. i really believe that Sims is better than Vaughn by a good little margin.. i am more comfortable when sims is in instead of vaughn regardless of the lineup. imo he is more athletic, taller, and more skilled. and he has already proved that he can pull down a couple reboungs.. look for him to get more minutes and vaughn less and less. and for those that say vaughn is more physical the margin isnt great enough for it to really matter because no offense i like monroe but none of our bigs a physical at this point in the season

I agree with Daytona about vaughn hes j ust not ready. But what i do like is that it seems that when he catchs the ball he wants to shoot it or make a move i think henry can learn something from that. Henry had the ball with plenty of opportunitys to take it to the hole or take an open shot. Hes going to have to take shots in the flow of the offense to be worthy of starting or getting serious minuets. If not i rather have freeman in there

Interchangeble excuses for losing: Rebounding, free throws, damn refs, too many 3s, not aggressive enough on offense, too aggressive and reckless on offense, not enough big thick guys, nobody boxes out, everybody boxes out so we win rebounding but can't defend the big thick guys who score at will...
Things to ponder at work or in class: Sapp slump > Wallace slump? Sapp benching = McNabb benching? A voodoo witchdoctor put the kibosh on Jessie? Sims needs more seasoning (not Mr. Dash) or Sims is great now and ready to start? Wright > Wallace? Wright is next coming of AI or Wright makes bad decisions? Wright = Point Guard or Wright = Shooting Guard? Greg Monroe > Alonzo Morning? Austin Freeman > 240 lbs.? Julian Vaughn > Vernon Macklin? Omar Wattad > Jerimiah Rivers? JTIII > Coach K?
Sapp-slump
