What's Barker up to? Anyone know? Barker is working in educational software in Philadelphia. He will be making an appearance at the Big East.

Marquette is out at this point. I dont see any credible argument for them. They will have to beat UConn on the road or go deep in the BET. I am not sure they are even going to beat Seton Hall 1 of 2 times. Although, I will say it would be fun to see a game a BE team play on the first 4 Tuesday - like Marquette-Michigan State. For Marquette to be out, somebody has to be in. Right now, Marquette's win over Notre Dame is the best win by a bubble team over anybody. If they get to 9-9 in conference - and they have a favorable schedule - they will be dancing.

Jucos

Pretty sure that Jay Crowder, who plays for 'quette, was the JUCO player of the year last year. If that is as good as it gets, I see little to no reason to invest too much in that pipeline. Yes, Jae Crowder was the JUCO player of the year last year. We did a great job on him yesterday. I saw Marquette wreck ND in Milwaukee earlier this year, and Crowder had a great game. I think the problem w/the number of JUCOs for Marquette (and yes, it's at least 4) is that they don't get much of a chance to play together - really shows on defense, where they just don't communicate well, especially late in the shot clock (although that may be due to Buzz as much as who's on the floor). To be fair, Buzz himself is actually on the floor. Based on the warning he got and the subsequent 35 second call we got, that was pretty effective defense.

Judging by your handle - hoya70hoops - your picture link - adrion - and the fact that you are wearing a 100th anniversary t-shirt, you must be all-time Hoya great Charlie Adrion. www.hoyabasketball.com/features/top100/c_adrion.htmWelcome to the board. Crushing the Orange never gets old.

With tonight's win the Hoyas are tied with Texas and ND for the most top 50 RPI wins with 8.

To recap, Rutgers down 13 with 5 minutes left to Nova, Rutgers hits two three pointers to tie in the last 6 seconds and is fouled on the second three, hits free throw and wins.
Happy for Rutgers.

From GUHoyas.com, the team answers some basketball trivia questions. Big thumbs up for Chris Wright for knowing Merlin Wilson was the 2nd leading rebounder in GU history. Henry Sims? Well, he's got some work to do on those questions... www.guhoyas.com/allaccess/?media=224326Chris Wright's answer is perfect because he got Patrick but referenced Merlin Wilson and referenced the injury problems. Plus Merlin Wilson did lead in rebounds per game.

I was also at the game, right behind the Hoya bench. There were two late quasi-timeouts, the cause of one of which still eludes me, but the other was at JTIII's behest - on Austin's end of clock fallaway with about 30 seconds left the Hoyas thought that the shot was a 3 not a two and they wanted the monitor checked. The original call was confirmed.

I was at the game. The atmosphere was incredible both outside before the game and inside during the game. Those last two minutes were insane. There was one thing that confused the hell out of me and that was why in the world did Villanova keep getting timeouts at the end of the game when they had used all of theirs with like 7 minutes left? Even the Villanova fans near me didn't know what was going on.

Watching our defense is painful.
How good would Gene Smith look on this team? And yes, I don't mean a young version, I mean the 48 year old Gene Smith.

This just confirms that there is a long lag time between performance on the court and performance in the polls. Up and down. Proves the subjectivity of the whole process. For tournament selection maybe relaince on things like RPI is better. Regardless, I am happy to still be ranked. If we rely on RPI then we are a one seed. That seems a little optimistic.

Who is this mysterious "hoyajmw" who only shows up to laud the play of Arnaud Adala-Moto? I suspect a relative.

Finally got the Vault yesterday as I had been forbidden from purchasing so that one of my Hoya children could get it for me for Christmas. The book is a tour de force that could only have been authored by DFW.
It was a joy to read and I learned far more than I would ever have imagined.
I never cease to be amazed at how one's life can be enriched by the passions of others.
Thank you John.

Just back from the game with some thoughts.
Our second half rebounding was amazing. At one point late in the first half the scoreboard in the arena said we were being outrebounded by 30-22. We ended up outrebounding NCS by 42-33. This would mean that we got 20 of the last 23 rebounds.
Related to the rebounds, the sense I got today was that this team reminded me of the 1986-7 team. This felt like the most effort I have seen since Reggie and the Miracles.
We are running the half court offense much faster and it puts a tremendous amount of pressure on the defense. Among others, Hollis Thompson is much quicker in person than he seems on TV. He is going to be really special.
The light bulb moment - or moments, really the entire tournament - that Henry had reminds me of the Charles Smith coming out. Henry has gone from an afterthought to being absolutely central to our success this year.
Next year is going to be a war for playing time among the bigs. With Henry as a force, you now have Sims, Lubick, Ayegba, Hopkins, Adams and Benimon. Hollis will see 32-35 minutes at the 3.
Finally Jerelle Benimon. He is a defensive force. If coach wants him on the floor, I will no longer question the decision.

NCSU fans are CRAZY and have nothing better to do than complain about calls from over twenty years ago. To be fair, if we play Davidson in twenty or so years, I plan to bitch about the refereeing from 2008.

1978-80 Duren and Floyd get my #1 vote, and I don't think it's all that close. As someone mentioned above, Duren was our best point guard ever. Floyd was our best shooting guard ever. 1995-96 Iverson and Page #2 1976-78 Duren and Jackson #3 1980-82 Floyd and Brown (pre-knee injury) #4; people sometimes forget how solid Freddy was before the injury. He had great size and was terrific at setting up Floyd for open jumpers. 1982-86 Jackson and Wingate #5 (played together for 4 years - Jackson was as steady as they come with an underrated outside shot. Wingate sometimes gets lost in the shuffle because of Ewing and later Reggie's dominance, but he was a serious talent, high school Parade First Teamer, and a hellavu college player; a GREAT defender) 2007-11 Freeman and Wright #6 (another pair to play together 4 years, Wright's frosh injury aside; a work in progress with room to move up) 1988-89 Smitty and Tillmon #7 (Smitty was a first team all american and Tillmon came in as a frosh to play strong minutes) I think this is a good list, although Mark Tillmon was a junior in 88-89 and played hurt that year. With a big year the Freeman/Wright combo might get to be as high as #3. As a trio Freeman/Wright/Clark has a good chance to be our best offensive trio ever and might be right now. The competition is probably 1980 with the addition of Eric Smith to the Duren/Floyd pairing but Smith was not that good of an offensive player as a sophomore.

Clark is a much bigger threat than Wallace. In addition to spot-up threes, he creates his own shot from all spots on the court. Also a better rebounder and defender. Loved Wallace, but Clark has the potential to be Wingate/Williams good this season and next. At the risk of incurring the wrath of HoyaChris , Jason Clark is already a better offensive player "Shooter" than David Wingate. But Jason has a LONG way to go to become the "Lights Out" Defensive player that Wingate was. As for Reggie... he was arguably the best player in the country his senior year, a consensus First Team All American, and a top 5 draft pick. Nonetheless, all three guys looked GREAT today. Chris with his (first?) double double, Awesome Freeman 20 pts on 8-10 shooting, and Jason 22pts, 5/7 from Three, 4 boards and 4 dimes. Great team. Let's have a fun year! No wrath here. David Wingate's shot looked awkward even when it went in and his range never extended much beyond 15 feet.
