A report today from Pete Thamel at SI says that the ACC was not able to break the Big East's MSG contract (as it's house organ at ESPN would have had you believe) and will instead sign a two year deal in Brooklyn in 2017-18 and likely rotate with Greensboro and Charlotte , with DC out of the discussion after Maryland leaves.
A-10 is booked there in 2017, so expect the folks in Bristol to get involved in a relocation package. Still, a win for the Big East.

I am quite surprised the Southern schools agreed to this. What a mess.

I'm not surprised the southern schools would agree to this, so long as they aren't permanently in NYC, and Thamel makes it sound as though Barclays may be willing to do that for them -- two years on and two years off or something. But why on earth wouldn't they just start in 2018? One year isn't going to make that much of a difference to the ACC is it? Play another year in Charlotte or Greensboro or whatever and then do two years in NYC. This way, they're probably going to have to pay the A-10 something unnecessarily. Maybe they're going to work out a long-term deal alongside the A-10, where the A-10 gets the facility every year the ACC isn't there But even then, they could start it one year later. If this is the whole story, they're screwing with another league almost just to screw with them.

Pete Thamel also tweeted that JTIII was on the hot seat, so I don't know I would believe anything he says.

Of course, as a Syracuse alum he probably plagiarized it, so maybe there is something there...

Also - we have 2 years to strengthen the Big East and gain traction. The last thing we want is to have the casual NYC basketball fan flocking to the "new thing" at the Barclay's while the BET plays to half-empty MSG. ESPN would have an absolute field day with that story.

Enjoyed that the ESPN article still claims that MSG would "love" to have both the ACC and the Big East, but the Big East isn't likely to agree to move to earlier in the week. You think? Still, score one for the lawyers on this one. The ACC tried to steal something big and failed. That's always a good day.

ESPN would have an absolute field day with that story. By the time the ACC is at Barclays, what are the chances that both Boeheim and Coach K are both still at their respective schools? I think that the turnstile attendance at Barclays for the early rounds will not exceed what we see at the Garden. Will the ACC sell all of the seats at Barclays? They should; they will have more schools to split the tickets than will the Big East. That doesn't mean they will all show up. This can only be viewed as a major plus for the Big East.

Jay Bilas on ACC to Barclays to @snytv: "It helps everybody. It would be the hottest ticket in basketball."

Ha, the consolation (aside from lots of money) for the A-10 giving up Barclays for 2017 is the Nassau Colosseum? Ouch. They should just play their tournament at the Palestra.

The slander coming out of Bristol is really starting to make me upset and it's getting to the point where I can't even stomach watching that network.

I thought he was college basketball's only true objective commentator. How can I go on?
