A disclaimer on the thread below. While it's a notable idea, neither HoyaTalk nor HoyaSaxa.com ever solicits funds from its readers. If you choose to participate with other posters, it is outside the administration of this site.--Admin |
Was thinking it would be pretty cool if HoyaTalk made a donation to the Hoop Club each year. There are almost 3,000 members of the board - maybe try to get everyone to donate $1 or maybe a quarter for every "x" amount of posts. Would be a great tradition if the board members as a unified group could make a donation to the team every year. I know most people on the board already donate, but in general for most teams message board members are the most volatile and unreasonable of fans and I think it would be a nice gesture to show our coach and team that even though they may read/hear about negative stuff on the board - the board supports the program. Not sure how to set something like this up, but I guess one of the more well-known and trusted members of the board would have to take the lead for people to feel comfortable sending money somewhere.

Tom Crean had it all . . . he was beloved by the fans, had a ridiculous contract, had a team packed with talent and had an opportunity to be a legend at Marquette. Instead he choose to take over a school that has very little talent, impending sanctions and whose fans will want him fired by the end of year 1.
Being a coach at a historic progam like IU and Kentucky is not what it once was.

Just took a quick look at box scores for pts and bounds for Roy in the NCAA tourney: 19 pts 6rb 12 and 10 17 and 12 10 and 13 10 and 7 20 and 14 17 and 9 13 and 7 13 and 11 Davidson game not listed because he was prevented from actually playing in the game due to poor officiating.
He also had some pretty good assist and blocks stats in many of those games. He has to be one of the greatest Hoyas in the tourney of all-time. Besides Ewing is anyone better?

Seems like the best approach to finding out what is going on is for someone who has the most interest in the issue -maybe a former player or donor to call the athletic department and just ask - then report back to the board.

Ray Reed playing well - I'm pulling for him. I'll worry about matchups later.

As painful as it is to root for Cuse - I think all Gtown fans should be hoping that a Cuse win on Wednesday and a loss to us on thurs is enough to get them in. It is important that the Big East establish itself as a 7 to 9 bid conference in these early years of the bigger conference.

As I said before - you have the rest of the off-season to drink. If you're more worried about drinking than seeing the pre-game ceremony you are really not a fan. I'm guessing I'm preaching to the choir here as I think just about everyone on this board will be in their seats early.

11:30 is the latest anyone should enter the arena.
If you are leaving a bar and you see Georgetown fans still sitting there - let them know that another beer can wait.
NO EXCUSES - I will be in my seat at 11am. This is the biggest game of the year - why would you rather sit at a bar then watch the last warmups of Roy, Jon, Pat and Tyler at Verizon - you have the rest of the day and the rest of the off-season to drink at Clyde's.
This is not only a statement game for our players but for our fans.

Does anyone have Rich's call on the Wallace fouls/free throws?

I also noticed a few student section tickets for sale on Stubhub - if you are doing that you should not be allowed to sit in the student section next year.

Just checked out stubhub and there are plenty of affordable tickets. If you post on this board and are in driving distance of Verizon do everything you can to get to the game. I think this will be one of those games you'll be kicking yourself if you miss and if any senior class deserves an amazing sendoff this one does. Since some of the students are on spring break the non-student fans need to bring everything they got.

This class will be remembered forever.
It had everything - the great big man, the floor general, the high energy do everything power forward, the superstar and the team first leader.
And most importantly everyone of them was a character guy.
Each one of them deserves the best the fans can give them. So if ever you feel yourself sitting and being quiet at the game remember this is their last home game and think of how much joy they have brought you.
THANK YOU SENIORS YOU HAVE MADE THE LAST 4 YEARS AN INCREDIBLE RIDE

DFW - I agree 100%.
I hope all the higher-ups at Georgetown realize this.
If you told me I could get a Gtown National Championship this year in exchange for the Big East breaking up I would not take it. The Big East is the most important thing to the long term success of the Georgetown basketball program.
I don't think the conference will break up because 16 team conference has been very successful in hoops and more surprisingly in football (BE thurs night ESPN games have gotten huge ratings)

I don't know why any Georgetown fan would welcome a split of the coference. BE basketball is amazing and getting better.
Playing Cuse, Ville, West Virginia, Pitt and UCONN are some of our best Big East games.
Cincy is also getting much better and will be a really good game in the future.
There are no other teams that aren't in a BCS conference that I would want to add to our conference.
Georgetown should do everything in its power to keep the BE intact.

I think too often people look at things in terms of what Georgetown owes them instead of what they owe Georgetown.
Georgetown gave Coach Esherick a free undergrad education and maybe even law school.
Georgetown gave Coach Esherick an unbelievably rewarding, exciting and fun job.
Georgetown made Coach Esherick a millionaire - he made more money in his two head coaching contracts than most people make in a lifetime.
His Georgetown connections gave Coach Esherick another career after coaching
In return Coach Esherick did the best that he could. I believe he gave everything he had to Georgetown, but Georgetown gave the same back. Nobody is to blame here. It didn't work out and he lost his job. It happens everyday to thousands of people who need their jobs much more than Coach Esherick did.
Please lets move on.
