Really proud of the guys and the staff for this game, after the Nova demolition. Could have come out with their heads down but chose to put that game behind them and give it all they had. I would be saying this even if the ball at the end had fallen the Johnnie's way.
In addition to Ponds, boy would I like to have Tariq Owens on our team. Real rim protector with great timing and excellent athleticism.
We have already won three more BE games than I expected. Maybe we can steal another one or more.

In single elimination tournament, a team that lives by the three can die by the three. Last night's Nova could have beaten any NCAA team.

If either leave, next year will be worse than this year because we have no replacement nearly as good. As an 86 year old, rebuilding takes on a whole different meaning to me.

You will go to any length to drum up criticism of any Republican. Ryan's comments are perfect. That quote up there, not Paul Ryan. My bad. Sorry.

Paul Ryan purports to be a devout Catholic? Trump's comments were a little more than simply "unfortunate." Try "disturbing" and "dehumanizing". "Reports of recent disparaging remarks about African countries and Haiti have aroused great concern. As our brothers and sisters from these countries are primarily people of color, these alleged remarks are especially disturbing. All human beings are made in the image and likeness of God, and comments that denigrate nations and peoples violate that fundamental truth and cause real pain to our neighbors. It is regrettable that this comes on the eve of Martin Luther King Jr. Day, and could distract from the urgent bipartisan effort to help Dreamers and those with Temporary Protected Status. As a vigorous debate continues over the future of immigration, we must always be sure to avoid language that can dehumanize our brothers and sisters." You will go to any length to drum up criticism of any Republican. Ryan's comments are perfect.

We are past the mid point of our schedule, enough time to draw some conclusions.
Kudos to Ewing for replacing Pickett with Blair in the starting lineup. That starting five is the best we can assemble this year and each should play upwards of 30 minutes a game.
Derrickson and Govan are much improved over last year and are carrying this team. Both are legitimate All Big East candidates.
By far the biggest surprise is Blair. He is an unconventional player who doesn't look like he belongs on the court but is savvy and finds ways to put the ball in the basket. Not a great handle and not a great passer, but passable at each. I think the sky's the limit in his four years.
Johnson is my favorite player but has been a disappointment. He does lots of good things: fighting for rebounds, scrambling on the floor for the ball, moderately good on defense. But his handle is not good and he is too passive on offense.
Mulmore is, by far, our best option at the point. Only one I am comfortable with bringing the ball up court. Good handle, usually makes good passes. But he is very limited offensively though he has been moderately successful from deep.
Pickett is by far the biggest disappointment. I keep hearing he has the most upside. I don't see it. Awful ball handling, too prone to turnovers, doesn't rebound much, and his deep shots are not falling. I have no optimism he will ever be the truly productive player we hoped for.
Mosely is hot and cold. Pretty good on defense but his offense goes from "yeah" to "what the heck". Too many turnovers, handle needs work. Only guard with any capability for driving to the hoop. Tough as nails. By far he should be the first off the bench.
Dickerson should never be on the court except in the case where Mulmore and Mosely are not available.
Walker: too little playing time to know but I love his willingness to fight for rebounds.
Last comment: watching several cases of Ewing talking to Pickett, looks like a father talking to his son while the son pays attention to the father like you wish your teenage son had paid attention to you. Would love to have Pickett visit me. Seems like an outstanding kid. Likewise for Johnson.

Only positives today were Walker's play and Johnson's ten rebounds.

I've said this before in other threads but I really think coaching incoming big men is a huge challenge. I don't care what level they played at in high school they never faced the size and strength big men in high school they face almost every BE game. I've seen it over and over at high school games, guys like MD and Jesse can score so easily in most HS games that it is hard for them to make the transition to top D1 games. I thought guys like Hopkins and Lubick were prime examples. I could see how Copeland also had an issue with this. I remember how bad Greg Monroe looked freshman year against BE big men. Anyone else at the Pitt game his freshman year? I think it was Butler who literally shoved Monroe all over the paint. That said I think PE is doing exactly what you need to do to these guys and we see it in the development of MD and Govan. Really curious to see the matchups with Delgado of Seton Hall. I dread Delgado.

For those of you with retirement or other investments including stocks, thank Trump for his part in a very good year. Of course it is not all due to Trump but his easing of onerous regulations and the talk of tax cuts for corporations had a lot to do with it. Or maybe you'd like to give it back because you are worried about the debt. We'll be giving it back in the next crash which is pretty much baked in to his "easing of onerous regulations". But I love that you're not worried about the debt anymore, seemed like you were really worried about that for the past decade. No where did I say I supported this tax cut. I would have supported it only if it were accompanied by large cuts in spending such that the cuts were greater than the tax cuts. And the spending cuts must include Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid.
