Although I think both guys should absolutely return (both are long shots for the league after this year)....if you could only have one return next year...who would you choose and why?

Wow, that's a tough one.....of course we want them both back but...
Based on next seasons roster make up I'm gonna have to say Govan simply because there is no replacement for him next season. With Walker, Josh LeBlanc and Grayson Carter coming, they can theoretically replace Derrickson but there is no replacement for Govan.
I personally believe Derrickson is the better player and has more upside but he is not a center so it's all about roster building so Govan is the keeper. On 2nd thought, I don't want to lose Derrickson, he has a chance next season to be great.
This is a decision only King Solomon could adjudicate.

You can see that each is improving, but both need further progress/development...if they both return, and continue on the same trajectory, THEN I think they can both play professionally...

I Think that the chances are very small that Jesse is coming back next year. He is a projected late first round pick with not much to gain. I would love to see him come back but think from his perspective it might be time for him to get paid to Play ball .

MD will be back I think. Jessie is a toss-up. His highest mock I've seen is 48 and mostly undrafted. Pat will be lobbying hard for him with his connections so that will probably help. It will depend on the end of the season.

Lol, I must have misunderstood the question. Everyone else did, including me. I think it's just hard to imagine they're equally likely to come back so I'll take MD since either one would be great and he's more likely. Also, is this with or without us pulling off Moses Brown?

It will depend on the end of the season. The problem with Jessie at the moment is that he's neither a rim protector or a great rebounder at the pro level. I think the match up against Delgado showed his current limitations vs NBA caliber strength and he's not explosive enough or a dead eye outside shooter to be NBA ready, imo. Doesn't mean he won't leave and try to make his dreams come to fruition.

I’m expecting Jessie and Marcus to test waters. It’s only going to help them. And I have every expectation that the process will provoke a hysterical response among fan base. (And I include myself in that).
You never know what kids are going to do, but with information from workouts and Ewing I would be surprised if either goes. I know kids are inherently unpredictable, but I see two kids who have stuck with Hoyas when they had options to go elsewhere. It shows they intend to listen to Ewing. It is pretty clear they have been. I guess the danger is that either will hire an agent upon declaring, but I am assuming (perhaps naively) that neither will take that step. I expect they will make informed decisions.
FWIW I would be shocked if MD goes before Jessie. Jessie entered this year expecting it to be his last and he may force the issue.
As for the theoretical question, I would choose Jessie to stay. But it’s a difficult choice.

I don't see a Jessie leaving. He amount of knowledge, tricks and techniques he can learn from Ewing is invaluable. It's basically like having your own personal Big man trainer for 2 years.
Your can already see that his shot blocking, rebounding have improved in the short time he's been with coach Ewing. And he's starting to add Ewings patented baseline jumpers and drop steps.

I don’t post often, but read a lot. Derrickson is a great college player, but is a long shot to play in the nba. He has one good nba skill, 3 point shooting. However his lack of athleticism would make it difficult for him to defend. He has good size for the college game, but in the nba he would never get his shot off in the post. Think about a guy like Hollis Thompson who is a great 3point shooter who only played in the nba because of the process. The issue with Govan is that he does not use his size well. He is not a shot blocker, is not an elite rebounder, and spends too much time on the floor. He is an excellent shooter and at 6’10 or ‘11 he could potentially play in the nba if he continues to improve his game. With another year under Ewing both players will cont to improve. They could both have great senior seasons and be all big east players. However, the nba does not value seniors. Also they will likely remove the age restriction so the 2019 draft will include high school seniors which would make it even more difficult for both to make the nba. A team with two nba caliber bigs, despite not having a solid pg, would not struggle like we do.

Jessie may indeed leave to play professionally next year, but if he does, it won't be in the League.

I would really be surprised if either left. More talent on the way - and both have been featured heavily in the offense. It's their team. That and no, there is no place in the NBA for either - not yet.

If I had to choose I'd rather lose Jesse. Look at top BE teams over the past few years how many had dominant big men? Other than maybe Delgado, I can't think of many. Maybe losing Jesse would force us to start getting with the program and focusing on quality guards and swing men.

I want to see GTown get away from the tradition old-school bigs. I think in the longrun we will be better off running Mourning, Walker, MD and Carter at the 5 over a lumbering big....

If either leave, next year will be worse than this year because we have no replacement nearly as good. As an 86 year old, rebuilding takes on a whole different meaning to me.

I’ve been thinking long and hard on this one and think we’d miss Marcus more than Jessie. The couple of times Marcus has had to sit (Syracuse and Seton Hall) has been disastrous.

We have so few scoring threats on this team. Govan, Derrickson and Blair. The rest I would leave wide open until they made me pay.

You can never tell what the players, or the people around them are thinking, but I just don't see where either Marcus and Jessie are going to have too many opportunities in the NBA. I think they have both improved significantly this year and I really like the way they are playing and the effort they give, but neither is what you would call an explosive athlete, and the NBA game now is so fast and requires players to play very quickly which does not play to their strengths. I hope for the best for both of these guys because they have both represented Georgetown very well both on and off the court and hope I am wrong and that they both have long NBA careers, but I don't see that happening with the type of games they both have right now. I would never wish against anyone chasing their dreams, but I hope they both return next year and get their degrees.
