Regarding the issue of getting the ball inbounds against L'ville's press, its going to be nearly impossible to get the ball to your point when they are sandwiched with a double team without doing something to creating some sort of separation. Bringing up Hollis to the set a cross screen for Markel/Jason would be one way to do it. Another would be bringing Hollis up to set a backpick on the defender behind Markel/Jason and first looking for the over the top pass (if Hollis's defender overplays and doesn't recognize what is going on) and then looking for Hollis to cut hard to the ball after the pick. The third way, which I was wanting to see them do at least once, is simply running the point guard out of bounds on the baseline (taking his 2 defenders with him) for the lateral pass and then hitting the guy taking it out initially as he cuts inbounds. Whatever way you want to do it, the key is breaking up or negating that double team.

Crash, were Otto's parents at the game. Hopefully they got to see Otto play as Louisville is at least within shouting distance of Sikeston. I don't know for sure, but imagine they were. Louisville is a little less than 5 hours from Sikeston and is the closest game on the schedule.

As big of an Otto fan as there is, but I just don't think he should be starting over Nate. The obvious reason is to not lose Nate, who this team will need throughout the season. The less obvious reason is that while he gave some great minutes, Mikael hasn't stepped into the role of Henry's backup yet. As a result, Nate is the de-facto backup center. With the rotation as it is now, Nate is replaced by Otto at the 16min mark, gets a 2-3 minute break, and then comes in to relieve Henry (who by this time in the game has played about 8 straight game minutes). If Otto were to start, the question becomes who does Nate come in for and when? Henry needs to be in the game for the first 6-8 min to establish himself and the low post for the team. The games he has played well, he has done it by getting going early. I don't think Otto's production would change if he was the one taken out at the 16min mark and then reinserted for Henry at the 12min mark, but by doing that you may have Nate playing extended minutes at once (6-8min) before Henry gets back in the game. Then you will need to find another breather for Otto to break up that last 12 min so you have him on the floor to finish out the half.
If Mikael takes over the backup center role, then starting Otto would be less problematic. If that were to happen, there will likely be some stretches where Mikael and Nate are on the floor at the same time with Henry and Otto on the bench. Mikael (and/or Nate) will have to prove to be a scoring threat to ensure the offense doesn't become stagnant. Otherwise, there will be 2 post players who the opposing team's bigs can sink off and allow their guards to deny/overplay ours.

Great win. The team showed heart by not letting L'ville's fast start sink them. They showed grit by hanging on at the end and not losing composure when L'ville made their comeback. The next step going forward is to develop that killer instinct to keep teams down and not letting them get back in the game.

SF 6'5" 185lbs
Just watched him online in the BeachBall Classic and was impressed. Very high energy guy who doesn't take a play off. Finished with 40pts.

Here check the link below, which explains the situation. Essentially it all comes down to whether the player took an official visit to the college prior to enrolling. If he did, then he can still get academic $$$ to enroll mid-year but cannot play since he would be considered a "recruited walk-on." However, if he never took an official visit then he can get academic $$$ and become immediately eligible. eye-on-college-basketball.blogs.cbssports.com/mcc/blogs/entry/26283066/33969404

A little worried when I see a 3 min clip of a 6'10" kid without 1 dunk. The kid can shoot and has a lot of skills but he is lacking athleticism. Maybe he will get a mean streak as he gets older.............. I wouldn't be too worried since he is so young (13-14yrs old) but already so big (reported 6'10" 220). Once his body catches back up to itself and he develops strength I think he will be fine. The thing that concerns me is that he is so big but doesn't seem to be working on his post game much. Its great he can shoot with range, but a 6'10" spot up shooter doesn't give you anything more than what you can get from a 6'3" spot up shooter. His form looks good, though I would rather see him get the ball up a little higher. As you can see in the video below, the further he goes out the lower he starts the ball which is a strength issue. In my opinion you get the form first and then develop range as you get stronger. At any rate, the kid looks like he is already very skilled but still has an extremely high ceiling. Its going to be interesting watching him develop over the next couple of years.

While it's still nearly 2 weeks away, I figured I would post this now while I thought of it. QEA is playing in the "Hoops in Overdrive Shootout" December 30-31 that will be broadcasted on IHigh.com. Check the link below for more info. www.ihigh.com/hoopsinoverdrive/article_97136.html

I can't confirm his height, but I can confirm QEA has been known to make guys grow a couple of inches. I saw them play two years ago and they had Quincy Miller listed at 6'11" even though he was really in the 6'8"-6'9" range (listed as 6'9' this year at Baylor).

I would love to see Otto take more of his open looks from 3. That said, the kid has all of the tools. Really, really like his potential. And if we have a "nose for the ball" guy, it's this kid. He's a ton of fun to watch. From what it looks like to me, he's struggling with his shot right now. Ever since Maui it seems his shot is a little flat. Just about every miss is hard off the back of the rim, especially from behind the arc. I'd like to see him slip in and knock down some midrange jumpers to get his feel/confidence back.

We may want to consider letting him play one full season in the Big East first, before planning his future. Just a thought. Exactly.

I would say there is a very good chance Otto stays all 4 years. I'll be disappointed in his development if he's here all 4 years 3 years...TOPS I understand what you mean, and with most kids with his talent/potential they would be jumping at their first chance at getting to the league. But as most of you know, Otto isn't like most. Obviously his goal is to play in the NBA at some point, but I really cant see him going unless he is absolutely prepared. He still has a lot of things to work on before he can even think about that level....getting stronger, being more consistant behind the arc, improving lateral quickness and on ball defense, etc. He also doesn't have a cliche of people telling him how good he is. The people who have his ear (his parents) are more concerned with keeping him level headed and well rounded. And when it comes to determining if it is time for him to move to the next level, I imagine Otto and his family will only be listening to a select few people (JTIII, JTII, etc). And if it does look like he could make the jump after 3 years, there is always the question of whether he has accomplished what he wanted to while he was at Gtown. Winning and getting his degree are important for him. While he could always come back and finish his degree, he can never come back and win a national title. If he hasn't accomplished that after 3 years, it may play into his decision. At any rate, it is way to early to be worrying about that kind of stuff for any of the freshmen (or even Hollis). The season is still young, but there are indications this team has a great chance at being something special. Going to be an exciting ride.
