This kid doesn't seem to be listing GU, but I read this and it doesn't make a lick of sense, so I hope someone can help me make heads or tails. My apologies if I am posting in the wrong place.

Two questions:
1. How on Earth can a program skirt the scholarship limit simply by offering a kid an academic scholarship? There has been countless discussions of "counters" on this board, and this seems to fail even the most basic smell test.
2. The article seems to indicate that UConn has an open scholly. Didn't they have to take one of their players off scholarship to make room for Drummond this year?
If what is stated in this article has even a grain of truth, the scholarship rules are a complete travesty. Can anyone reconcile?

Though he was deemed ineligible for his senior year of high school ball, Stokes could graduate early, enroll in class and begin his college career starting in January -- right in the middle of conference play. Though Stokes does not have a timetable for a decision, he is choosing between UConn, Memphis, Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee and Arkansas.
Will Stokes choose the hometown Tigers? Unlike Arkansas, UConn, Florida and Tennessee, Memphis does not have any open scholarships. Then again, that might not be an issue since Stokes is reportedly in fine academic standing and may be able to receive an academic scholarship. According to Smith, however, it's becoming less clear that Stokes will become a Tiger.
