Would someone tell me if the Savannah State game on all access is streaming video or merely gamecast type coverage? Also, earlier versions of the schedule showed Savannah State on ESPN360 and the American game of Dec. 17 on MASN but these are now shown without video coverage. Wha Hoppen? Does anybody know the answers to these questions? It looks like it will be a streaming video. On the guhoyas.com schedule it lists links to both gametracker and video. The video link takes you to the all access site where the broadcast is shown to start at 11:30am on the 12th for that game. www.guhoyas.com/allaccess/?media=268175

Remember, Carolina was the best rebounding team in the country last year (3rd the year before), and is returning everyone from plus 5* power forward James McAdoo...so it would have been difficult on the boards no matter what. The positive though, is that going against a team like this before the season starts will help them recognize their weaknesses in preparation for a difficult early season tournament.

Yeah I was pretty intrigued when I saw that Otto was helping to break the press in China right before the brawl broke out. I have a feeling that you will see a lot of that when he is on the floor. He's very comfortable handling the ball in the open floor, but that is really just the bonus. The real benefit is his court vision and ability to see over the top of the press. Having a guy like that can sink a press quickly because it gives you the ability to not only get through it, but actually attack it by throwing over the top to create 4 on 3 or 3 on 2 situations. It seems some people are worrying a little about the team's overall ball handling. However, one thing to keep in mind is that there is always more than one way to skin a cat. While there may not be any one-man press breakers on this team, there is almost always going to be two 6'7-6'9" wings who can see over pressure, find the open man, and shoot the gap looking for a return pass or an open lane to the hoop.

I was at that DC Armory game and the big Chinese center was named Mr. Mu" -- IIRC, he was 7' 7" and pushing 400 pounds and really ineffective. I'm guessing it would have been this guy : Mu Tiezhu www.thetallestman.com/mutiezhu.htm

Looks like I'm going to be buying some Georgetown gear......... Bubba is a Hoya. Crash -- you'll look great in Blue and Gray! Is Bubba going to put that name on the back of his Hoya Jersey? Gotta love it! Thanks for your insights along the way. And welcome to GU. It's GREAT to be a Hoya fan! Not gonna lie, it would have been nice if he went closer to home so I could go see him play more often. But in the end, I think this is the best decision for Bubba and I am really excited. I guess this just means I'm gonna have to plan a trip to the east coast sometime this winter. I had gotten the chance to talk to both Coach Thompson and Coach Kirby this year and both seemed like great people. I think in the end, that was a big reason he picked Georgetown. I know Bubba will do fine there both on and off the court. He really is a great kid who has a good head on his shoulders. He's a hard worker who doesn't take anything for granted so while I don't expect him to start from day 1, I wouldn't be surprised either.

I was told he REALLY enjoyed his visit but has not committed. That doesn't mean he won't, just that the the odds of him being a Hoya have increased.

Just to let you guys know, Greg Swaim doesn't know what the hell he is talking about.
Is there a chance Otto ends up going to Kansas?....yes....but there's also a chance he could go to Mizzou or Georgetown. To say Otto has made any kind of decision, could not be further from the truth. Right now he really doesn't know where he wants to go.

Porter's high school team will be playing for the state championship on Saturday after a 78-42 semifinal win yesterday. Otto finished with 34pts (26 in the first half) and became the all-time leading career scorer in Missouri Final Four history. Below is a link to the replay of the game if you want to see him play (warning, first 3 minutes are blackscreen before the broadcast starts up). Also, not really sure how the available scholarships work out but I do know JTIII still wants Porter. www.mshsaa.tv/events/17552

Got to meet Coach Thompson tonight. Really good guy and a lot more laid back than I imagined. Felt a little bad he only got to see Otto play 2 quarters, but I imagine he's past the evaluation process and was there more to reinforce G-town's interest. Not sure on Porter's numbers but I would guess he had around 25pts, close to 10 rebounds, and atleast 5-6blks. The team they played against is an average Class 1 school, but SCC is one of the top 3 teams in the state regardless of size...hence the 70 pt win. In all honesty, even though it is the state playoffs this is probably going to be the weakest part of SCC's schedule this year.

Missourihoya,
They are playing Scott City, a Class 3 school in their conference, on tuesday night. It will be ugly (like a 50pt blowout) but with their game against Maplewood coming up on Saturday I imagine the starters will play at least 3 quarters.

Crash, thanks for the report but I believe it's against regulations for coaches to talk about unsigned recruits to boosters/fans/reporters. Please think about editing your post accordingly. Hey no problem, went ahead and edited for ya. However the discussion wasn't about Georgetown's recruitment of him, but rather Otto's skill set.

MissouriHoya, what game are going to watch? I am planning to make the trip back home to see them play Maplewood-Richmond on Saturday. If that is the game you are coming down for, let me know and we can meet up.
I was down for the game on Friday. Otto really put on a show, including a nice one-handed windmill in the second quarter and an 80ft buzzer beater to end the first half. Sadly they aren't on the highlight video because the camera crew had already left. I had the chance to meet Coach Kirby after the game who is a really cool guy. I didn't realize that he started his career at Three Rivers CC, the local juco about an hour away from Sikeston. He arrived there the year after Otto Sr. left for Southeast Missouri State, but has known him since that time. I'm willing to bet that is how Georgetown was able to hear about and get in on Otto Jr. before many others were who are outside the state of Missouri.

Just an update on Porter's season.
He had 29pts 15rbs 8blks 5assts in a win over defending Class 2A Tennessee State Champion Bolivar Central last weekend. Next up is a local 16 team Christmas tournament Dec 27-30. As the number 1 seed, SCC's first two games are going to be 50+ point blowouts (which means Porter will likely play 2 quarters at most in each) but their semifinal and final matchups should be much more competitive.

Rankin must have just gotten mixed up on that because Otto hasn't visited Georgetown yet, although he does plan on taking a visit in the spring (was told his is planning a Kansas trip as well).
Porter's team will be playing Chicago Simeon (#10 team in the country) this Saturday. Simeon is loaded with talent that includes 6 to 8 future D1 players including top 5 sophomore Jabari Parker.

I'm pretty sure he wasn't at the game the other night. KC is about a 6 hour drive from southeast mo, so it would be a haul up there and back for a game the middle of the week.
Honestly I think with a good strength program he could put on 20-30 lbs easily. He's never going to be a bruiser, but then again with his skills he will translate into a face-up 4 and probable 3 if his ball handling continues to improve like it has. Both his uncle and his dad (especially) filled out after high school so I imagine the same will happen with Otto. One thing to note is that ge won't turn 18 until next summer so he may not even be finished growing in height.
As far as where he is looking to go nobody really knows for sure. From what I've heard I'd say mizzou is probably a lean, but he hasn't made any decisions yet. He's going to take his visits and not decide anything until the spring. I think the biggest hurdle for you guys will be the distance from home. He's got a very close family and I imagine being able to see him play is important. But in the end he's going to go where he feels is the right place for himself overall.

Hey guys, saw this forum and figured I would give you guys some background info on Porter. Otto plays for likely the most storied high school basketball program in Missouri, located in the southeastern part of the state near the "bootheel". Scott County Central is a small public school (high school enrollment around 100) that has won 14 state championships since 1976 including the last two Class 1 titles. A big part of that success has come from a few large families (Porters, Johnsons, Timmons, Blissetts) who have played for those teams throughout the years, oftentimes with fathers and sons sharing in the tradition. The two best players to ever play for SCC were Otto Porter Sr. and Marcus Timmons. Otto Sr. was part of the original 1976 state champion who went on to become an All-American at the JUCO and D2 levels. Marcus Timmons (who is Otto Jr.'s uncle on his mom's side) was a 6'8" forward who played on 4 state championship teams during the late 80's early 90's before having an All-MVC career at Southern Illinois University. Otto Jr. has several other uncles who were all-state players and had successful careers at the lower levels of college. Needless to say, he comes from a great basketball bloodline. On the court, the best way to describe him is that he is a basketball player. Though he's 6'9", he can handle the ball in the open floor or from the wing. He also has a great midrange game and can knock down the 3 or finish with either hand around the rim. Even though he's just 200lbs, he is extremely active on the boards and doesn't shy away from contact. Even at his size, he plays at the front end of SCC's press, sometimes taking over the point. The downsides are obviously his weight and the level of competition. Even though he plays hard and has a motor that doesn't stop, he's going to have to put on some weight to be effective at the next level. Going up against guys 30-40lbs bigger night in and night out next year will take its toll. The level of competition he typically faces really varies drastically from game to game. While SCC plays in the smallest class in Missouri and in a small school conference, they really try to load up their nonconference schedule with bigger schools and better teams. Last year they played schools like Dallas Lincoln (Lebran Nash), Jackson Northside TN (Casey Prather) and West Memphis (Ark Class 6 runner up). Porter had 15/15, 31/20, and 28/15 in each of those games. He also had games of 38/18 and 25/17 against some larger highly ranked Missouri teams as well as the 29/35 game in the Class 1 state championship game. This year he has started off with a 37/15 game against North Little Rock (Ark Class 7 semifinalist) and 28/18 against East Poinsett Ark (Ky Madden). However like I said, the other part of SCC's schedule consists of blowouts against conference schools and in tournaments they always play in every year. This week, SCC is playing in a small school tournament and have won their first two games by 60 points a piece and Porter only playing 2 quarters and scoring 18 in each. So while he does play against some bad competition, his averages are typically hurt rather than padded in those games because he rarely sees the floor in the second half. At any rate, if you guys want a chance to watch Porter, SCC will be playing in the Marshall County Hoopsfest at 5pm on Saturday where all the games will be webcasted on ihigh.com (links are below). Over the next two weekends, SCC will be playing in different shootouts against Chicago Simeon (defending Class 4 Illinois champion and currently #10 in the country) as well as Bolivar Central TN (defending Class 2 state champion). I don't know if either of those two games are shown on the internet or not, but if I find out they are I will let you guys know. www.marshall.k12.ky.us/mchs/sports/hoopfest.htmwww.ihigh.com/marshallcounty/
