GP Hoya, I remember the Penn State loss. The tiny band of players and supporters from Nittany Land celebrating in stone-silent and what seemed like cavernous MCDonough after a length of the court inbound pass at the buzzer.
I remember losing to Division II Assumption College at home as well.
For fifty bonus points, does anyone remember Ron Lyons' nickname?

Mike Laughna- his senior year, the abysmal 3-23 year, was my freshman year. he was the last link to the '70 NIT team which in those simpler times constituted as close to hoop glory as the Hoyas had come in a long time.
Mike was the captain of a collection of over-matched and discouraged souls. Older heads than me may remember Art White who had eligibilty in this period but couldn't stay in school. There are good stories about him.

only listened sporadically but the defense sounded very good. I love that we held them under 50 pts. Was the perimeter defense good, or were they just not falling for ND? Either way sounds like we rebounded well and didn't give them a lot of second chances.

First time I got to see the Hoyas on TV this season and I only saw the second half. My viewing was informed by a lot of what I've read here the last month and a half.
Shot selection- After hitting several threes early in the half we refused to live on the outside shot. I thought we looked inside and for the back door cuts well. At one point with us up about 12 Green dribbled inside and drew contact. I thought both he and Hibbert were well-involved in the offense and the focal points.
Guard play- Some turnovers and slow reaction to the double team. In conference, quick guards may trouble us. I was pleased to see Wallace take the ball to the goal and push it forward opportunistically.
As has been written, Michigan played a poor game. After discovering what was going to get them back in the game, guard penetration for the shot or the dish, they went away from it. At the nine minute mark, they knew they weren't coming back and played like it.

Sorry, Hoya73, perhaps because the game was in Worcester the result didn't stay with me.
Is the player you're thinking of Chris Potter? A number of us had long hair back then. He would have been a freshman.

Dan-
My recollection is that over the period 75-80 when Holy Cross was somewhat resurgent, that we owned them. I don't recall Geprgetown losing a game to HC over that period.

Tom-
loved your pick of John Duren at #5 and Shelton at #11. Too often these pre-Ewing Hoyas aren't given their due.
I was recalling this week with a Holy Cross alumnus how John played the pants off point guard (and now commentator) Ronnie Perry.

Due to the Yelo Melo Display on Saturday night and the Dragon's Fire last night, I know several Orange fans on suicide watch.

Much as Villanova fans can throw up the '85 title game to us, you can always ask SU(cks) partisans who closed Manley.

Another second half comeback by Duke last night against Holy Cross. Not sure how much was K adjustments, Holy Cross cold shooting and turnovers or just a kick in the butt at halftime. Didn't see last Saturday's game but I would agree Duke is slow and a shadow of last year's team. Too bad we let that one get away.

While there are occasional bumps in the road i.e. his tardy appearance and no dress at Fan Appreciation Night at the end of last season, Iverson comes across as a good citizen.
His devotion to Philadelphia seems real. His restrained response to the trade Iverson frenzy last year and his professed wish to finish his career here play well with me.
He could make a real contribution to stemming an escalating cycle of violence here. Seventeen people were shot in Philadelphia over the weekend, six fatally.

Read Ms. Powell's piece in the Post. I guess you have to pick your spots, but she made no mention of the lockdown D on Foster. Would have loved to have seen the game to have witnessed that achievement.
In terms of how teams play us, I would guess it might be a while before someone plays us man up.

Thanks, HoyaChris for that detailed account of the 87 BE title game. I had a tape of that game until a few years ago and used to play it regularly.
That and the 80 "Manley is officially closed" game are my fondest memories. If you ever need to shut a Syracuse fan up (and this may only work with the middle-aged ones) mention those two games.

I think it's their fans- a unique yet highly toxic blend of Long Island brashness and upstate "Deliverance" types.

Was thinking of making a pilgrimmage from Phila to see a few Kenner games.
How much are tickets? Are the starting times of the games predictable? Are the freshman likely to play and on what team(s)?
thanks for the info.

Did Men's Basketball make money this year? If we don't know that now, when will we?

I think Craig Shelton was big also.
the legend I'd heard was Al Mcguire, who late in his Marquette carreer seldom left his haunts in Milwaukee, came to DC to see Craig play.

PHILADELPHIA
Turns out I will be coming from what is sure to be a "sedate" lunch at Finnigan's Wake in Northern Lieberties. I guess I will hope that the info about multiple screens at the Public House turns out to be right and steer what may be my listing ship there.
Between St. Patrick's Day and the Nova bandwagon, I have a bad feeling about trying to watch the Hoyas without major distraction or difficulty. If I could, I 'd drive south.
