RBHoya is right on, rushing the court is part of what makes college sports great.
In my opion fans do rush the court too often in hoops games thereby cheapening it but it is still called for in many circumstances. it has to be a really close game, and should either be against one of your biggest rivals or a huge upset.
a last second win against your biggest rival should always be a possible court rush, add in that it clinched a league title and you have a losing streak against them and you should be ashamed if you dont court rush.
elite programs my ass, so if you are usually good you shouldnt enjoy it anymore? that is lame. I guess i dont want to root for an elite program because their fans arent allowed to enjoy big wins anymore.

97 entries...quite a field! the First Annual Hoya Talk Bracket Challenge... Good luck. we have done this in past years but i dont know who won 97 entries...quite a field! and to the victor go all the spoils. Good luck. Is that Victor Page? What is he up to now anyway?

Second, we are only slightly better than last year's team. We are 16-10, 8-7 in Big East. We won 3 games we had no business winning (Nova, ND, Pitt). If these had gone the other way we'd be 13-13, 5-9. this is such a silly thing to say that i had to respond. First of all, we are far better than last year and far better than we had hoped, regardless of the recent losses. (that doesnt make the losing streak ok though) if, if, if. If we had lost the three games that most prove how much better we are this year then you would have a much better argument. but that doesnt make it so. IF we had no business winning those three games didnt we also have no business lossing to ORU & St Johns? If we had beaten Illinios on a night when they had 4 starters out with the flu you could say that game doesnt show anything but when you win 3 games against quality opponents two of which on the road, it shows that the team has improved a great deal over last year. last year we were losing those close games, and losing them to lesser teams.

wednesday never sells out, the evening session might get close. $10 tix, show up at cafe 31 and you might find a hoya fan with an extra or buy at boxoffice and move down. if you sit in the student section of the team that is not playing, you have a good chance of not getting kicked back to your seats until the game second game starts
if you are at wednesdays game or at the blarney stone afterwards, you should ask the fans of any team that lost to buy their tickets.
also, little known fact. There are last minute sales of tickets that get turned back by schools and or players/coaches who dont use them. you can wait in line at MSG and buy these about a half hour before game time, but you should be in line long before that since there are usually very few. The toughests ticket of the week is friday, it is a lot easier to get championship tickets since you only have two groups of fans instead of four.
unfortunately mega, i cant bring the kid along, something about me not having breasts to feed her, damn womens lib strikes again. in light of my 13 BET and no championships, my not attending this year creates a mortal LOCK that the hoyas will win the BET, get to vegas people and lay the house on this one, no question in my mind.
I swear on jack the hoya's soul that i will return next year and bring my daughter with me.

cam- in the years since we graduated there have usually been plenty of extra tix in the student section not spoken for. I think it was 2003 when i was able to buy 10 student tickets to the first round game for me and other alums, so at least they went to an alum, better than being wasted or sold to a scalper.
One or two years I got someone to buy me a voucher on campus but i usually just showed up at the ticket table in nyc and asked for them. I still have my old old student id which helped until they changed the format of them a few years back.

i have gotten student tickets for years and it is never organized. in 13 years they have never asked for GU id's at the garden but occasionally when the table has been moved to the hotel across the street they have asked for id's. they have never had a list of who should be redeeming the ticket so if as an alum you theoretically got someone to buy you a voucher and borrowed the id of a student who already got their tickets or who wasnt going to the BET, then you were fine. the biggest problem usually is they dont tell you when to pick them up until the last minute.

I would actually guess that MCI would want as much of the revenue as they could get if we only played a few games there. In fact, why would they even allow us to play any games there at all if we weren't playing them all there? . Right now we have to play at MCI so we have not bargaining power, we have to take what they give us. If we only wanted to play a few but still could just take our ball and play at home, then MCI would have to give in to some GU demands because MCI would rather make some money than no money on a GU game. They would allow us to play there because they want to have events as often as possible so they can make more money.

Big east rules, you must seat over 6000 for a conference game.
the university would have a hard time turning down a gate with 16000 for cuse or duke if we were only seating 6500 on campus.
also, i would think that we would be in a better position to bargain a better share of revenue at MCI if we were only playing a couple of games there. my guess at least

I emailed someone in the alumni house and asked if they can spread the word to people coming in for the leadership weekend and they responded with the note i posted above.
I was also told that unfortunately this is the same time as the awards presentation where they give out regional club awards as well as individual awards to the Healy and Gaston award winners so many alums will be attending that.

this is also leadership weekend for alumni who are involved in the board of governors, their local clubs or reunion planning, the alumni house could send an email to all on their list about this event and many people who are in town by then would certainly find this interesting.

This afternoon I finished downloading a copy of the 1995 BET Semifinal matchup between the Hoyas and UConn. Anyway the file is nearly a gig and ahalf large, so when I'm finishd watching it myself, I can try and compress it a bit when I'm done watching. do you still have this, can you compress and email it to me?

my first BEt was 1993, it was a wierd feeling being at teh end of our first non-ncaa season in over a decade. it seemed like we played miami every year for a while and we owned them in the BET, "Po-pa, Po-pa" good times. first trip to the blarney stone, good times. then we got bounced by the hall who was awesome that year. the 94 finals against providence never seem to get any mention on the board, dont know why, we should have taken them for the title.
unfortunately this year i will miss my first one since then but i promise to return next year. everyone there must promise to drink a beer for me and someone will have to chaperone MegaFan in my place and try to keep him from getting ejected until after we play. (after that all bets are off)

i still have that beat up shirt, the next two years they gave out hats when you got your tickets, no reason they cant give out shirts again, i think the idea above about selling shirts to alumni at reunion weekend is good also the weekend of the Villano-fun game is alumni leadership weekend or something like that so a lot of active alums will be around and hopefully going to the game,
007, if you can order more shirts i bet you will be able to sell some that weekend to alums at a profit which could support your purchase of new shirts for next season.

you will be able to get tix through GU. Every school gets an alottment so it doesnt matter that the site will already be sold out. students season ticket holders and high level hoop club donors get first shot. the quick turn around on tournament games means that most "real people" are not able to travel to the games so that leaves tickets ripe for students. as a student getting tix to atlanta in 96 was not a problem and as an alum i was able to get tix in anaheim by calling GU the morning they became available.

with the talent we have on this team everyone, myself included, figured we would be hoping for a home NIT game at seasons end. People who predicted a 500 big east finish were laughed off the board in September. Even in Megafanland we were not anywhere near the tourney this year.
Coaching has been the difference plain and simple.
FOTG is right on that JTIII would have won most of those games he mentioned from last year and winning begets winning so we could play woulda coulda all day but those few games could have led to more wins due to better preparation and confindence. There is more talent this year than everyone thought because of the coach and the system. The talent at the begining of the year was thought to be low but building with a freshman heavy team and bowman and ashanti who hadnt reached potential. let me say again coaching has been the difference in that we now think of this as a talented team on the rise not a rebuilding year that will hopefully bear fruit in the future. if you say you thought this team was talented in September you are lying.
