Agree, assuming seniors leaving for the pros and freshmen who haven’t played transferring doesn’t count as “drama”.

Limited downside a lot of upside. Close to Contention for player of year and a top 10 Team. Can’t knock it .probably was sold as a PG any TTech. Although he clearly isn’t one (‘not much assists).
What happened to Leblanc? Guy is fouling more than scoring these days. I thought he had the highest floor out of all those guys that left.

Vernon Carey too - #3 ranked player, went to Duke, put up 18 ppg/ 8 reb/ 38% from 3, didnt even get drafted in first round, has played a total of 6 minutes in NBA. Its not easy for the big guys. I am sure Carey was envisioning playing minutes by now too.

Sibley though...some plays just no awareness. Good length but feel like still a big learning curve this year.

He’s shooting 49% from the field and 37% from 3 last 2 years. He took a low salary and picked his teams, but overall been a good fit and effective. Dare I say, underrated.

Some interesting stats through the conference games:
Pickett, who we had high hopes for, has as many points as our freshman point guard, who is shooting 38% from the field, aka, its not b/c our freshman is playing super well.
Pickett is shooting 37% (!!) from 2 point land, (missed layups/long two pointers no doubt) while shooting 28% from 3 pt range.
Blair is shooting 30% from 3 point range.
Our freshmen combined have scored 20 points, ex Harris.
Ewing minute choices or not, the seniors have struggled, the freshmen have struggled.
That being said, looking forward to next game/rest of conference, to build on, we won a game with usual suspects not contributing scoring, and Harris, Carey, Bile playing more to their strengths last game.
I think we all are most interested, who other than Harris from freshmen gets chance to contribute this conference season, and who will seize that and produce? its always better going into next year knowing who you have - the incoming class is on paper a step up, but freshman too, and for now, we have to see what they look like at next level.

Someone commented on the YouTube video of the highlights of the game, and felt it was spot on:
-dribbles with head down, can’t create for others -sg stuck in of body - but liability to guard a SG -plays hard -fan favorite - will make money and perhaps be a star...overseas
I did watch the Baylor game and he had some great blocks, but can he hold his own defensively ?
Can get buckets, which is something we could use...that being said we also need to play better. I was at the Duke game last year and as good as Mcclung/ Leblanc/ akinjo are, those combined with Jamarko took a lot of bad shots and turnovers (and we still had a chance). Plenty of teams that are beatable this year.

Was thinking about this the last couple of games, a lot of possessions in games he seems intent on getting the ball in the hoop rather than taking what the D is giving him/passing back out. He seemed last game to at least change his moves a bit and less predictable, but 2 assists so far this season and a lot of forced shots is something that I hope we are working with him on - especially out of time outs where we try to get ball inside etc making sure he looks for his teammates.

Akinjo went 0-8 from the fields 0-5 from 3 tonight. Shooting 31% from the field this year. His career high at Georgetown was 36%. Mac is shooting 39%, 31% from 3. I like what I have seen from Harris so far, just needs to make some better decisions. Being a good Guard makes and breaks college teams. I think he will get there, and put up better numbers than our coveted recruits. His mentality seems to be great.

"Ewing has always seemed to have a much longer leash than his mentor ever did. It's not about punishing kids, but rather about getting them out for a minute and settling them down."
Yes, didn't understand how we could make the same mental errors repeatedly and not bench someone for a minute to drive home the point. I was calling out the mistakes before they even occurred depending who was handling the ball. Gotta actually run some better O.

Much of the game was garbage, I felt like at one point I counted 10 straight possessions where we didn’t even pass the ball more than once and shot a low percentage shot early in shot clock, while SH was consistently whipping the ball around and getting good looks (and yes, sometimes making jumpers that we struggle with- But even those were attempted over poor defenders like Blair and after getting the D moving ).
What was worse is felt our seniors were the biggest culprits. Not sure why they kept doing it, not sure why Ewing didn’t call them out on it. Probably b/c as many posters said, we have no one else. But at that rate at least let me see what sibley and Berger have.

Thank you for bringing the wet blanket to the party! It was an answer to a question. Do we just ignore any questions before Patrick's arrival? Pre Ewing, but I think that team frustrated defensively and some of the younger guys never got to their potential at Georgetown.Like that we are bring in some more defensive dawgs (now) under Ewing (hopefully). But you are right, freshman are unknown. A Sims or a Sibley looks good on paper as a frosh but can take time.

Interesting that Bile has the highest usage % in conference so far. And shooting 31% so far in conference. Blair has a low defensive rating. Some of the best ratings are from players like Berger who haven’t played that much. Wish Sibley would develop quickly so we can lose some of Biles minutes.

Agree with most of this. In this last game we really needed to work for a good shot, and the combo of not working for it (not enough passing) and not being talented: athletic enough (SJ was much better at creating their own shots 1:1) doomed us (ignoring defense). The reason why mid majors win is good passing / decision makers and efficiency in scoring. We may bot have the talent of other schools yet but the other issue is our five most experienced players also aren’t good at picking their spots.
I think the ball pressure definitely affected us / we couldn’t make them pay while repeatedly SJ did the opposite - they scored easily. Credit to them they also made a lot of tough shots we couldn’t make.

Maybe but Whittingtons game seemed more nba centric and look how long it’s taken him. Even once drafted many players in a draft may never play on a nba court. I think if he played like this as a sophomore he would have had a better shot , it’s tough as a senior. I think his handle still needs work. His decision making has gotten better, which is important bc his tools plus better decisions = impact player

Here is how he shot to end his last 3 seasons :
5-14 against at John’s 1-4 against Harvard 0-6 against St. John’s
So 6- 24 ( 25%)
He’s not that bad (I think) and he will play a good role on this team, and I think he tends to get better as season progresses but...
We can’t have expectations too high as well. He just needs to do the little things first consistently like he did at times last season. I did like he was assertive but also felt he passed up some good shots for some midrange (which he struggles with).

I'll be shocked if the NCAA is able to pull this season off. Cases are surging and it's only going to get worse. And trying to get 350+ teams to follow the same requirements is going to be like herding cats. I don't think this is going to work out and frankly I don't think schools should even be attempting it. The battle was lost when college football got the go-ahead. Unless cases come down, you are gonna see I think a lot of issues in football soon too, and disadvantage is for basketball 2-3 players will have a big impact on fielding teams (in a watchable way). It’s “doable” but will be very hard and I agree on the herding cats. Also, football is revenue generating in a way basketball isn’t and I just imagine the tolerance for pain by administrators will be a lot lower. Just think, we don’t have a vaccine or even true rapid testing and cases are worse than at any other time, and we are trying to send kids all over the country to play. I hope it happens, but I think we are all being pretty optimistic.
