Not sure why Q would leave, Omer maybe had more parts to his game than he could showcase at Gtown/NBA prospects, but Q was still perfecting (and making some improvements) to his "near the basket" game, and you cant tell me there are better coaches than Ewing that would work with him on that (and other top big men to go against each day). With the recruits coming in, I think it would have been worth his while to stay/he would have had more upside. Interesting decision to say the least.

Exactly. Loyola was named as the second most underseeded team in tournament by most and was #1 in defensive efficiency in the tournament. I don’t think Illinois losing means BE teams would have been better than the Big 10 teams.

Hoyainla and Professorhoya have been calling it and I have to agree Michigan St.- First Four Purdue-1st Rd Ohio St.- 1st Rd Illinois- 2nd Rd These 4 games the Big 10 teams were favored to win Now Wisconsin is down double digits to Baylor at half time I think Xavier and Seton Hall could take these fake Big Ten teams. Probably even Providence and St. Johns. Didn’t Maryland just beat UConn comfortably? And Rutgers defeat a higher seed? I don’t draw that many conclusions. PAC 12 has been pretty good so far.

Astoundingly, we won 4 post season games this year - UNC, Duke, Kansas, Kentucky, Arizona 5 combined! Perspective. Edit, Kansas won, Michigan state did not win in tournament. UVA and Texas lost in first round now. I guess UCLA and Nova are the blue bloods left? Interesting if Gonzaga wins it, which programs they will go through for a title!

Hope he can get his offense together. Pickett has shot 27% in his 9 career post season games. At his best when he knows his game, but too often forcing it / has gotten his drives coordinated enough to finish. But great run in the tournament defensively.

Should we be glad at all we played such a fundamentally, well rounded team, in the sense it tells us more about our team and what we/ Ewing need to focus on?

But then ball watching disappeared for about 6 games. It’s like Thompson sprinkled a magic dust but now it blew away.

Would you rather be blown out as a 12 seed or lose as a 2 seed to a 14 seed?

I know we all want shiny new objects in terms of recruiting ...but this is all mental. Players taking bad shots, ball watching , offensive turnovers.

My favorite stat just has to be we are 2-0 in games when we have less turnovers than our opponent. Such a small sample size

You want guys who fit that profile, who want to work to make it NBA. Stewart was a beast who is now getting minutes in NBA. Kockburn stayed and put in the work.
Don’t know Oscar’s deal. Seems similar to a Macklin big ticket transfer situation.
You just want Ewing to recruit athletes but also skill. Haven’t watched Kentucky much but some years it seems like they just have too many run and jumpers without getting the Bledsoe type or a booker type on skill end.

I rewatched FGCU- GU today (yes I’m a glutton for punishment). Mostly for perspective. That GU team won 12 of its last 13 if I recall. Things that’s stood out for me - we had 33 fouls to 15. We had a lot of player that were good glue guys but somewhat limited offensively or defensively. we were relying on Lubick, on Bowen, on Hopkins and DSR off the bench (0-6 with 5 fouls). Everyone played 33-34 minutes. There were a whole bunch of plays where we didn’t get back and Otto went 5-17 and missed a bunch of bunnies. They dunked on us and intimidated- not sure there was a single player on that team that could bring a Dante / Bile (even Blair) swagger (good thing lately they been backing it up!)
We may lose this game but for despite having a bottom of the conference preseason roster , I think we are better equipped that that one. JTIII was coach of the year but may have overachieved.I would argue we have some upside left. We have players up and down that have balanced skills. We have experience. We can have a player be off (remember when Pickett/ bile scored one bucket between them and we won BET game?).we (have been) getting back on defense and hustle just isn’t generally a doubt. I see us being a bit more smart on fouls - although like most tournament games, it always seems to be a factor.
Can we execute/ limit the turnovers ? If we can hunt for good shots we just have to like what the team brings. We have changed the trajectory (and coach has too!), as coach says, can we take another step?

Any odds before regular season to win BET? or they just announce those prior to BET?

I still am confounded how we could play so many years one way under Pat and then post covid break another way. I think no matter how a coach coaches players have to buy in. I credit pat but also the players for making an adjustment. pat had some struggles to get a Blair to play the way he has last few games for several seasons, but I suppose their is something to be said about finding the right players and chemistry and growing together - I think Dante is emblematic of this. Not a better player on paper than the other guards that left, but did the little things and seemed to bring team together. It’s hard to pinpoint one thing but have to think Dante’s reflection ofEwing on floor is one of the biggest reasons for the turnaround (even if Ewing didn’t draw it up that way).
Ewing has gotten a good grade in my book re bringing in talent overall. It’s up to him now to make sure he brings in his guys now and knowing what type of talent he wants.

25% from field for his career in tournament, as a forward. Not the only reason we have not played well in post season, but one of. Loved the boards today, hope he got his rough shooting game out of his system, hoping he hits some tomorrow!

Yeah man, I thought I was gonna come on the board and we all were going to celebrate this win together. Instead I get this b$$$×(] and whining! It's sickening and it killed my good mood! So sick of this! When you’re up 19 at the under 16 TV TO, you CAN NOT be in a nailbiter. It just can’t happen. Bile and Pickett literally willed us to this win with barely any help...from the backcourt, the bench, or Pat. And, to be fair, the officiating was an abomination. Did anyone else catch the fact that twice...TWICE in the second half Xavier shot FTs after our offensive fouls? WTF? That’s like the amateurish shiit you see from HS kids who ref rec league games and don’t know the rules. I saw them shooting free throws bc we had like 8 fouls in first five minutes

Wow like no D whatsoever. I feel like this is the league where Trey Mourning and Kaleb can put up points...oh wait. Macclung could put up some points.
That being said - if you can show at G league you tend to get a shot or two at NBA. Hope Omer gets that!

We lost won in Big East Tournament in 2016. Against DePaul. If we win a game in BIG EAST tournament, this might be our best season ending in last 5 years.

Tremont waters is shorter than Dante and playing minutes in NBA. came in way more heralded / polished, but there is a path for the smaller/quick guys.. even if its just some spot minutes. Tremont shot 33% from 3 the year he was drafted, I could see Dante being at least that (he is 88% from the line, but appears to have a bit slower release/less trajectory). Biggest difference aside from assists which Dante could get is steals (Tremont at 2.6!) and finishing at rim/2pt FG, Tremont at 50%, Dante at 38%. Akinjo at 36% for his career. Matt McClung at 47%.
