So was Danny Hurley available when we hired Ewing in 2017? I remember begging for us to consider him but the Thompson family was a bigger priority to the entire Georgetown community.

Wild talk today at trilly regarding our coaching situation. Likely just PC trolls but it’s being discussed as a quasi-real thing. Started from the PC premium board from a guy who has a good reputation there for insider info. Hopefully just PC nonsense. These boards are now talking about a press conference. Anyone have insight as to what the hell is going on!?

Hilltop Hoops said the IG 500 guy is Eddie Lampkin. So we don't need to talk in secrets anymore. Of course, that doesn't mean he's a Hoya, only that he's revealing it at 500 likes. Yeah now it seems it might be Syracuse and we'd have to play him. At what point do we start worrying that we are getting outbid? The longer this guys the less and less attractive Gtown looks. The first commit is important to get the ball rolling.

Georgetown not even considering Dan Hurley in 2017 so they could hire Patrick Ewing is one of the all time bad decisions. Shoot in 2023 Georgetown was still hiring guys based on John Thompson. You think Hurley or anyone else for that matter was in the mix in 2017? I don’t know what actually happened in 2017 but I knew, along with this board that he was the guy to go after. If JDG et al did not even consider him, which I doubt they did it is absolute malfeasance and willful ignorance on their part.

The Big East is soft in this tournament UCon will have to save the day. I could never root for UCon. Hoyas get tougher for 2025. Both of the teams tonight came out mentally or physically weak. Creighton can barely get the ball into the paint.

And now TN running Creighton off the court. Unfortunately not a good night for the Big East so far.

Unfortunately Marquette came into this game off from the outset. Had they been playing UConn this way it’s a 40 point loss. They didn’t play their brand of basketball (maybe partially due to NC State) they were right there to make a push with a few minutes left. The way they shot was pretty unbelievable. These were not contested 3’s but often wide open.

Would you have approved of Rick Pitino as coach last year had we hired him? I think the answer to this by those complaining about Johnson would be a resounding yes. The complaining is how half this board was holier than thou about Pitino and haven’t busted out the pitchforks about this hire.

Cooley vs Pitino: Pitino was obviously much better year 1. They both effectively had full reboots. TBH Pitino probably would have done eve better here as he could probably have recruited better at Gtwn than STJ. Also, we don't have much of a core for next year from existing players. Cooley has recruited well enough to give us hope for next year. Maybe we'll also get some positive news from the portal. Next year is pivotal--it's fair to expect at least a tournament bid. If not, I'd want a lights out recruiting class with NIT. Otherwise, we'll need to reevaluate direction again. Complete rebuild v. 2nd Team All Big East Center as a foundation. I will repeat that I never wanted a coach previously associated with getting hookers for HS recruits, or w a slew of vacated wins, but I get that nobody else seems to care about pesky details like that when he is a proven winner. But the notion that they stepped into similar situations is bunk. And SJU has no relevant academic standards that influence who a coach can bring in. If you all want hired guns without any fit to our broader school community, you are On the wrong fan board. Serious question, in a period where we will likely be offering 7 figures to transfers do you really think we are evaluating their fit in the broader school community? They are professional athletes that have nothing in common with a biology major like I was during my time at the hilltop. This line of reasoning is why we are at the bottom of the big East while our peers are excelling.

Makes sense, but here's the thing: he has one of the top recruiting classes coming in (see link - best among BE teams) and he'll be recruiting in the portal based on that class and hopefully a well-articulated picture of how a transfer will fit into the team and be part of an exciting big step forward in this program. He'll also be recruiting on some legit reputation not only as a program builder but as a players coach who knows and loves the game. Lastly, he'll recruit on selling the Big East as the best conference in the country. I don't know anyone who professes his love for the BE like EC does (after every game & in many interviews) x.com/247Sports/status/1767552416667332818?s=20I completely agree with your take and how this is a very good recruiting pitch to us, here. However, I think this is a tough sell to the current college kids who live in a here and now world. They want to win yesterday, get to the NBA this year. They are not forward thinking.

For the record, I don’t think race should have anything to do with it, either. I like Pitino lots as a coach. I just don’t think this administration agrees. This administration is the reason we are where we are. For the record, seeing what Pitino has done at St John’s and the way the city has responded, I don’t think he would have chosen us over St John’s. There are banners on the light posts surrounding the garden with him on it. They are all in. Our administration is worried about 1980.

People bring up Pitino, and I think he’s a terrific coach. But there’s no way in hell that Georgetown was going to hire a white guy with some mistakes on his record to fill the chair they still see as John Thompson’s. I think it was more about DeGoia's Board of Governor's role in the NCAA during the time Pitino was found guilty of Level 2 violations. It would be hard to oversee that type of discipline of a coach and then hire him as HC for your school's basketball program. If he is going to continue to drive this program into the ground due to his allegiance to the NCAA it is time to step away (it’s been time for quite a while but this just adds to it)

How many years do you think Cooley has left? Tim Brando was talking last night about Cooley being a broadcaster at some point, which has been a poorly kept secret for a while. You think Cooley's going to wait until he's 70 to pursue broadcasting? I don't know - let's do some math. EC is 56 now. He could give this job a solid decade and still be 4 years younger than Pitino now. Plenty of time to do some broadcasting, esp. after he has turned Gtown around and leaves on the success of numerous NCAAT appearances and maybe more. Cooley's not without fault, but to descend upon the Hilltop after fleeing Providence to a situation where recruiting and bringing players from Providence and a clusterfrick of program shambles was not by any stretch what Pitino was working with at Iona & St. John's. Did you REALLY expect Cooley to get 5-7 BE wins after seeing this team in the OOC games? You hoped (against hope), we all did, but that self-delusion is on you, and me. Many, many of us here were saying that this would take time, but now people's anger and frustration seem to make it o.k. to forget that and vent your spleens with all your vindictive righteousness. He's not had the best year start to finish, much of that is on him -- and I bet he'd agree -- but now he has both feet on the ground, can read the tea leaves, and year 2 of the Build begins tomorrow. 24-25 will tell a lot. Let's check in here next February and see hwere we stand. Til then, I'm excited to watch what takes shape these next 4 months. I think the frustrations with the Cooley hire showing up again is due to a lot of use realizing just how big a rebuild this was going to be. I know for myself I felt like we needed a huge hire to make a real splash. With the media, fans etc. That was not Ed Cooley, it was Pitino. He moves the needle. He gets guys to want to play for him. We don’t recruit in a vacuum. Pitino will be rebuilding as well and we will be going after the same players. Who are they going to want to play for..A legend that has taken St John’s to the Big East semis and NCAA’s in his first year or a decent coach who just went 2-19?

Rich Pitino is taking SJU to the dance, while we went 2-18. It's not great. Our showing this year was a bit unexpected. I had hoped we would have gotten 6-7 wins in the Big East this year. Pitino taking St John's to the dance this year is not unexpected. It was the expectation.

Good afternoon. I'm feeling confident about Wednesdays game no matter who we play. I think Cooley will have the team focused and ready for NY, especially Epps and Spears. One game at I time. I've been looking at company brand ticket websites for all-session tickets but the prices have been outrageous. I want to take my youngest son so he can experience our first game on Wednesday while also experiencing the whole tournament. It's been over 20years since I was last at the BET and I want him to see how magical it is and hopefully he will keep wanting to go to the tourney and root the Hoya's on. Does anyone know of a website where individuals list their tickets for sale that wont be marked up so much or happen to know anyone that are selling their tickets ? Thanks, Hoyabball I would check Stub Hub or similar sites. The Wednesday tickets are rarely very pricey. Back where there were paper tickets the move was to Stubhub (or actually scalp tickets) to the first session. Once you were in for that you would then go up to the fans of the losing teams and buy their tickets to the next session. It was always quite the dance to not anger them further after their team lost and manage to get the tickets for a good price. I used to go to the games with enough cash to buy multiple tickets.

What he usually does. This team needs 4 new starters. Cook or Styles could play in other rotations. Cook, Styles and Brumbaugh are the keepers. Maybe Fielder. Cooley and his crew made horrible misevaluations on Epps and Massoud. This is honestly what it comes down to. In the NIL error it is going to be key to be ruthless. It is nor professional sports and you are either worth the money or you’re not. I don’t advocate running people off but the “salary” can certainly change. The players all wanted the money but you have to accept the good with the bad. Unfortunately, there are no guaranteed contracts for them.

Sportsball is tough for the social media peeps. This is just so, so bad. Just shows you the effort of everyone here should set the bar for the actual program. Just so so bad.

I really want them to fight to keep this under 20. Unlikely Creighton pulled their starters at the 5 minute mark so the final score won't mean much.
