Do people really think that our players didn't work hard in the offseason? I think they busted their tails but they're just off to a slow start. A lot of them worked REALLY hard in the offseason. I remember reading a post about Crawford's first Kenner league game where he was described as "Arnold" because of his improved physique. Also, Roy lost something like 15 lbs of fat and gained a similar amount of muscle. That, my friends, is hard work. (Note: It is inherently harder to specifically quantify "basketball skills" improvement than physical development, but it would seem that if these guys are putting that much effort into lifting, "basketball skills" improvement efforts must also be at a pretty intense level.) In-season results so far have been mixed (at best) but no way can we sit here on an internet chat board and say that these players aren't busting their buns during the offseason.

what is duke gonna do to us in Cameron? The same thing Oregon did... make us look like the JV squad Unless the real Jeff Green and the Roy Hibbert of a few games last year decide to show up

It seemed like our perimeter D was late on almost every pass today. While this is certainly to be expected playing any type of zone against a pass-happy, perimeter oriented team such as the Mighty Ducks, it seemed to create serious problems for two reasons:
1) They had a lot of shots where the best defense we could muster was lunge towards the shooter's face...which, of course, brings back the horrible memories of Notre Dame last year [shudder]. When Oregon drove the ball into the lane, we had no problem stuffing their shots (even little Wallace got in on the act!), but they had far too many open looks last night. 2) We were often out of position and frequently couldn't box out. This last point might explain why we only held a THREE REBOUND edge over the Quackers.
Not sure how to solve this problem but it will likely

I've been waiting a while now for something worthy of a first-post and found it today.
A section-mate was commenting (to the consternation of the Oregon fan seated immediately in front of him) about the 5'6" point guard, Porter. The fan was clearly disturbed and turned around several times. After being told that this vertically challenged player hit 10 of 12 3-pointers in his first game os the season, the fan yelled "I don't care, he's still a scrub," at which point, the Duck fan swung around and told him "That's my son."
The best part about the exchange? The fact that the Hoya fan then proceeded to introduce himself and made no apologies whatsoever. A true class act.
Sadly, this was by far the highlight of the night.

Shouldn't there be a 24-hour limit on spitefully motivated name changes, 'bridge? I was glad to see SF revert to form... what will it take? An ESPN 360 subscription? A new satellite package with MASN? Jeff Green throwing down on top of your noggin? I second the 24-hour time limit and am pleased by the rebound in general tone of the board from Wednesday night til now. At least we didn't have to wait very long to get a shot at redemption

Wow - all I can say is wow. Green will be drafted ahead of Noah. Reading this post just makes me remember how close we were to beating Fl last year. Wow - we could be talking about a 3 peat? Remember that spin move by hibbert from the top of the key getting a layup over Noah. Wow We were very close to beating FL last year, but three peat?? Come on.
