no one didn't say the Princeton offense is no good or what have you The triple negative, nice! How exactly would we run an uptempo offense with three guards?

There were a couple times against DePaul where our guard did get beat and Roy stepped in to meet the driving Devil. From my vantage point, it looked like Roy was often just swatting at the shot, not necessarily making any sort of an aggressive move towards the player or towards the point where the player will release his shot. He sometimes ended up swatting at the ball near its high point, rather than on its way out of the player's hand.
Certainly, when the 7'2" experience is between you and the basket, your shot is almost sure to be "altered" in some way, but ideally, Roy would be able to position himself in such a way that not only does he alter shots, he rejects them into the 10th row.

So tired of hearing nearly every one of these excuses...
Maybe if we had an on campus stadium we wouldn't have to have this discussion!

I'm of the opinion that Nova beat us more than we beat ourselves, and in this way I think I differ from just about everyone else on this board. To outcoach/outhustle/outplay (by whatever means necessary) and completely stifle this (GU) team is not the stuff of a team that stinks. The only person who beat us on Nova was Clark. He played a very solid game but more importantly made all four of his free throws down the stretch (the only four that Nova attempted in the second half). Reality is we turned the ball over 22 times. When we average 61 possessions per game we really can't afford to turn the ball over 22 times. Couple that with the 67% free throw shooting and you have a tried and tested formula for losing basketball games. If we shoot 75% from the line that's an extra 2 points. If we turn the ball over 15 times (season average) and score the usual 1.1 points per possession, that's an extra 7-8 points. So, even discounting Wallace's gift layup when we were down by 4, we still win this game comfortably if we make two additional free throws and "only" turn the ball over 15 times... and boom goes the dynamite.

I am surprised that a thread about free throw shooting has gone about 10 posts and nobody has mentioned Vernon's BANKED FREE THROW.
WHAT!?
Remember, this epic feat comes to us courtesy of the same person who air balled a free throw earlier in the year against Towson.
I can't wait to see what's next in Macklin's free throw trifecta.

One of the better moments in the game was during the second half shoot around, when the dude chearleader, in a blaze of flag-waiving glory, nearly knocked over Nardi. The look on Nardi's face was priceless, and there was nothing he could to about it. I think this is what took him off his game tonight. Keep up the good work, dude chearleader.

So far, nearly every article about the Hoyas has been virtually the same:
Summer: talk about our coach, the son of the legendary JT2 Pre-season: talk about our great front court and our coach, the son of the legendary JT2 but also successfully carving out his own identity November: blame guards for not adequately supporting a stellar front court December: tell us how guard play is starting to improve but people are still adjusting to their new roles, especially our resurgent front court January: talk with guarded optimism about how we are starting to "justify some of the pre-season hype" (i.e. attempts by commentators to put something in print early that they can point to later in the season that proves their expert "insight/analysis")

It will be interesting to see how many students come back early for the game (and, of course, stake out the best positions in the library for future use this semester....) Any guesses- preferably educated ones- as to how many will actually show up?

I agree with Mr Ford. No way is Jeff ready to head to the NBA this season. He needs another season to really learn how to "assert" himself in our offense. Likewise, Roy needs more development and isn't ready to head to the NBA this year either.

The smothering defense has been there for a few weeks now, but this was its first chance to really shine before a large audience against an opponent that everyone considered legit. It was there for many of the cupcakes and Michigan too... but everyone blamed Michigan's offensive performance on the coaching turmoil. Bring on Nova. The stats certainly suggest a defensive "emergence" over the last few games- ND: 48 pts (31% fg) Michigan: 51 pts (36% fg) Towson: 41 pts (26% fg) WSSU: 32 pts (20% fg) At the time, there was no way to know whether this was based on Towson's/WSSU's poor play, Michigan's coaching turmoil, or the Hoyas actually playing good defense. Yesterday, the defense looked very very good against a team that was neither a cupcake nor in coaching turmoil. Roy was diving for loose balls, PEjr was swating balls into the 10th row, and Sapp was creating turnovers.... on top of contesting most every shot from the perimeter and collapsing on big men in the paint.

I was feeling pretty good about these improved rankings until I read that. Call me a cynic, color me unconvinced, etc etc, but I will be more than just a little surprised if WVA finishes 14-2 in the beast.

Sign read:
Even eSherick Put on a Necktie
Fan #2 was originally the one holding up the sign. When the camera returned to "fan #2" for voting, the guy holding the sign was no longer fan #2. Instead a rogue fan #2 wearing a necktie was the new "#2." A simply stunning turn of events that casts a shadow of doubt over the integrity of the voting process and the contest as a whole.

In an electoral sweep, the Hoyas have now picked up Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Mississippi. Also, the 8 voters from Wyoming have clearly demonstrated their support for the Hoyas (63%!). Lets hope the voters are right.

who cares... all that matters to me is that we have rebounded very nicely to 3losses and are looking better than ever going into BE season Honestly, the only reason to care about the polls right now is ease of getting scores and highlights from espn. That said, I would gladly forage through the depths of the Internets to find out that we beat up on Michigan than watch "GU 62 ODU 75" scroll across the bottom of my tv screen every ten seconds.

While I'm not at all surprised that we didn't reenter the top 25, the vote total is sort of surprising. I would have thought that a convincing win on national tv over a big name program(though not necessarily all that good of a team) would have swayed more than 3 voters.
Oh well, the beauty of college basketball is that the polls do not matter. If the Hoyas take care of business on the court (which they are doing much better lately) the off the court things will sort themselves out.
Honyasaxa, I think the top 15 might be a stretch even after 3 quality Beast wins. Remember last year's team didn't even enter the rankings the week after beating Duke and didn't crack the top 15 even after beating Pitt.

If Egerson is to be the next DO, it is essential that we begin refering to him exclusively as "Sophomore swingman Marc Egerson." There was nary a time last year that DO's name was not prefaced by the phrase "Senior swingman." And I'm just not sure if Egerson is ready to fill those shoes yet.

Roy was (as he is oftentimes this season) impotent against a smaller team. How dare you call Roy impotent!
