Sad news about our good friend SirSaxa, a Hoya fan for over 50 years! A little SirSaxa trivia; he was in attendance at JT's first and last games. That's some select company amongst Hoya fans.
Just the best guy you could imagine and his sons Chris and Brian follow in his footsteps. RIP my friend. Glad you got to see one last BET Championship. You will be missed.

We finished the season 10-4 post Covid pause and a new lineup with a PG change and the Bile insertion/emergence. Anyone truly paying attention could not seed this team 13-14. I would say 12 or better. Our last 14 game defensive statistics are STRONG! And all 4 losses to tournament teams. The committee has a secondary issue with Georgetown in that it really screws a high seed if it slots the Hoyas on a lower line. There's no way any coach believes a team with nine new players, no practice, and few warm-up games is some average of the whole season. If the Hoyas are a 13, some 4 will rightfully believe they got hosed.

Everything has been said and while I wish we were all there to see it, you can still feel the energy in every post, text, phone call, zoom, and facetime.
Only thing I will add is your team is defined by who stays not who leaves. Congrats Jamorko and Jahvon from Pat's first class. You earned it and you've paved the way forward.
Wow is some top 25 team going to hate their draw tomorrow.
Hoya Saxa!!!

Let’s not meltdown if we lose the first two games...where we will be dogs in both. Would happily take a split. If people like melting down based on the last day or week, then they are going to love this season as it is lighter fluid for hot takes. We will be dogs in every road game as will most teams in the Big East. Who can protect home court and steal a couple on the road will win the league. Nobody is going 15-3.

Depaul finishes off NW. Now 12-1.
If St Johns wins tonight, the BE likely becomes the #2 conference.

Devalues our win and gives PC renewed confidence going into our game. But it will increase the value of our upcoming W over PC and it's good for the conference Agreed. Providence is a tough place to play. It's pretty easy to forget that the Friars will be 7-6, sure, but still 6-1 at home.

So mostly people still where they were before except for Allen and Blair. Allen was probably too small a sample with just three 3s before. The revaluation is Blair- which is obvious to anyone watching - but the numbers make it just off the page. If this is his real capacity - wow I’m excited for the team and for us fans - but it’s also hard not to be super excited for him. Hope he keeps it up I think the shooting well 43% or better can be the real capacity when we are working together and taking good shots in rhythmr. If we start chucking, then I imagine the real capacity number can be much lower. I was surprised when a bunch of posters gave up so quickly on Blair earlier this season because I thought he had shown us that he could light it up when he finds his shot.. Right, its not like he's coming out of nowhere. And as the least diverse scorer, you would expect the lack of rhythm catch-and-shoot chances early in the season to affect him the most. Lets hope it continues today.

The last 4 games we have been shooting 3s at a 43.3% rate. If that is our true capability in this new situation and can sustain, that would put us in the top 3 in the country. Simply keeping it above 40% would put us in the Top 20 in this metric. I think in the first 7 games everyone not named James Akinjo shot close to 41%. So this isn't a fluke. The team ex-Akinjo has been shooting well all year.

UNC Greensboro with another nice road win, this one at Vermont. Maybe that Hoya loss won't look so bad. They could win the Southern. Lets remember Furman beat Nova last year. Wofford just beat UNC. ETSU just beat LSU. Its not a catastrophic loss. It might even be the loss that launched many wins.

Spell checked again, with excellent effect! Would love Pat to bust out twin towers of some sort. I'm pretty sure Ewing had Yurt and Wahab on the court together against Syrapuke for a small stretch. He did so we know he's open to it. Would like to see it for a longer stretch ahead of conference play.

80% from the line. Wasabi was one board shy of a double double even after Omer got 13. We were +14 in rebounding overall. Perhaps most importantly, only 10 TOs. We are building good wins by attending to fundamentals. An inadvertent great nickname for our green but spicy young center. I think with Tim shaking free, we will see a Yurt-at-the-4 twin towers set tried for an extended period sometime in the next two games. It won't work all the time (if an opponent has four shooters), but Xavier ran something similar last year and cleaned up on the offensive boards. It could work in stretches depending on the match-up and we might as well test our options at the 4.

I do too. I didn't like that look! My initial thought when Pickett landed, and on his reaction, was that it reminded me on KD’s achilles injury in the NBA finals. But based on the way he was icing it, I’m relieved. Post game presser he confirms its a cramp.

One of the things I wrestle with is that fact that many of the things we have done in the last three games are NOT what was planned at all: - A lot more ball movement. - A much tighter rotation (out of necessity, to a large extent). - A good bit slower pace. (Pre-transfers we averaged 75.9 possessions per game, last three, 71.7.) - Shooting a lot more threes. So I guess my question is, what's the plan? If the plan is to recruit and go back to a blistering but inefficient pace (with wholesale substitutions) with a wide rotation, isn't that the opposite of what has been working the last three games? It's really too early to say anything yet, other than the team has been significantly better the last three games. I definitely think Ewing deserves credit for that; I am just confused as to what the plan is given that we did not do that at the beginning of the year. If the plan is to stick to what is working now (and why wouldn't we?), then I think that's a smart move. 2003, I don't think that's quite fair. I would suggest that only the slower pace is a planned effect for the last 3 games (Ewing has said so in his post-game comments - we are playing with a "less frenetic pace"). I think he always wanted ball movement. He planned BEFORE the transfers, to have a tighter rotation and said so after the Duke game. The closer one is the number of 3 point shots taken. I always think he wanted us to take a lot of 3s. That's the NBA offense these days. He's an NBA product. I think more minutes to more confident shooters (like Mac) lead to more 3 point shots naturally, but the better ball movement is contributing to it too. Still, it's not like we aren't looking to push the ball up the court. We are doing that by pass (as opposed to dribble) much better in the last 3 games. Still, the increase could be by design. I will also call out that saying that ball movement was not planned makes no sense. Then why did Akinjo leave if his style was going to be the way going forward? And how did everyone get so good at ball movement on 48-hour notice that they had to "change styles"? Seems more likely the team always practices that way and got bogged down by Akinjo's overdribbling in games.

I would like to see a defensive clinic tonight. The offense has been great but let's shut a team down.

I love Mac as much or more than anyone else, but he was not the BE player of the week just past. If it were a Hoya, both Mosely and Allen were more deserving. I worry that Mac is being over-hyped and what effect that might have on his relationship with other team members. Serious? This is how it always goes. Its about the person that has the biggest numbers. The argument you are making could have been made countless times in countless conferences over countless years. People lean towards the dudes who put up the most points. Heck, just look at the guys calling the games or in the studios for Fox Sports. They were all about Mac and how its his team now, etc. They may be wrong but its not unexpected nor out of the question for them to say so. I doubt Jagan or Allen are upset about McClung getting accolades over them because they realize McClung and Yurtseven are/have to be the alpha dogs on the teams, the guys willing to take the big shots and handle that offensive load. No kidding. We have really been scarred by JaMEs Akinjo. This team looks as loose as they ever have. Yeah Mac got Player of the Week but everyone else got shots, assists, and wins including one on national TV. Pretty sure they're OK.

I posted some of this in another thread, but on the issue of offense (calculated manually by me): Pre-Transfer: 117 3PT Attempts/531 possessions = 22.03% threes Post-Transfer: 75 3PT Attempts/215 possessions = 34.41% threes 3PT Shooting Percentage Pre-Transfer: 33.33% 3PT Shooting Percentage Post-Transfer: 45.95% When you look at the fact that we are taking a lot more threes and making more, it becomes easy to see why we improved. Plus, Akinjo was our worst two point shooter, so it's not to see why we have improved. While Akinjo was good at free throws, everyone else shoots them well, and McClung draws a lot too, so that is not missed much. For what it's worth, the 45.95% three point shooting isn't sustainable - with the old line, the best teams were usually in the 42% range. So, either we cool down, or we will be one of the best shooting teams in the country. On free throws, though, we are taking fewer post-transfer: Pre-Transfer: 117 FTA/531 possessions = 33.71% of possessions were FTAs Post-Transfer: 75 FTA Attempts/215 possessions = 25.58% of possessions were FTAs. Even with Akinjo's stats as a boat anchor, we're still #32 in the country in three-point shooting so far. We won't shoot 46% but we very well might be one of the top shooting teams.
