Relevant passage:
"The whirlwind tour continues in July. Stephenson will also try out for the U.S. U18 National Team at Georgetown July 1-4. The training camp for that event then runs from July 4-10, also at Georgetown.
"Hopefully, while we're down there (at Georgetown), we can talk to some of the coaches," Stephenson Sr. said."

While I don't think its likely that Lance will be a hoya; I do think the staff is looking at him as a player. What I mean is the need for a guards in 2009 is not a neccesity, however a talent like Lance you entertain if he's interested and you are too. At 6'5 w/ a mature game; he's probably one and done, but hey why not?

The US U18 tryouts are at G-town? That would be fun to watch.
We should see what happens when he talks to the coaches, maybe he will say something to make us think he would be more then a one and done at G-town. Is he a SG or PG? Also, how do his grades look? (Always nice when the players a good students as well)

There are numerous videos of Stephenson on youtube, including interviews, in which his father stresses the importance of college and how he could never afford to pay those costs for his son, but i have a feeling the kid is more focused on making it quickly to the NBA. I imagine him more at a big state school, like UNC His game is Jordanesque

I dunno SF, this quote seemed pretty interesting to me, too:
"The tournaments we're going to this year are focused around some of the schools that Lance would like to attend," Stephenson Sr. told the Gazettes. "We're going down to the Bob Gibbons tournament and check out North Carolina. We're going down to a tournament in Maryland to check out Georgetown."

Moe, missed that one. Good catch.
Watching Lance play even in the limited settings I've seen - he's awesome. Just an amazing talent and I think he can be a true passing PG -- I don't think he's got too much Tyreke Evans in him. When he played against Jennings and all the top guards in 2008, it was Stephenson who stood out.
He's a guaranteed one and done talent but the type of player who may push your team over the top for that one year. He's also already had a documentary made about him. I don't know if that's bad, but it does kind of lead you to Telfair...

I'd love Lance to be a part of this program.

He might not be a one and done if the NBA increases the minimum age requirement. Still would be shocked if he picks the Hoyas, but we should keep room for him.

He was best player I saw in any HS game this year--he dominated in every facet at the Primetime Shootout against Kemba Walker and NY Rice. He scored 36, 15-17 rebounds, and made some of the nastiest/prettiest passes you'll see. Thing I loved--he didn't force a shot--if he was going to get a good look--he took it--but he would pass and work to get rebounds/putbacks and has a frame he can bang down low or take you from outside.
Easily the most impressive player I watched in any HS game, any HS All Star game this season.

In Kemba's defense, Lance has at least four inches on him and some pounds. That said, I've never seen Lance live, but did see the entertainers classic on ESPN and he did whatever he wanted on the court. In Lance's defense, Kemba is a lock down guard and feeds off of that, so if he imposed his will on Kemba, then he's special. I watched Kemba and the Gauchos shut everybody down last summer on their way to winning 3 or 4 events.

Kemba Walker was impressive as well--but Lance and Kemba wasn't the game-it was Lincoln against Rice--and they didn't guard each other--it was just impressive showing by Stephenson against big time competition--which was the point being made. Lance destroyed highly acclaimed Durand Scott, and Kemba showed himself to be a great player as well-just nothing like what I saw from Stephenson--and that includes everyone I watched--be it Brandon Jennings, Jrue Holiday, Samuels, Monroe, Gates, Mullens, Roe, etc.....Stephenson was head and shoulders the most impressive performance. Efficient scoring within flow of game, great passing--his no look behind back entry pass from 3pt line was still one of the greatest passes I've ever seen--and it was in a game!!! Rebounded, defended, knocked down perimeter shots, putbacks, passed to open man and led his team well.

I know it's not all that likely but imagine this lineup the year after next:
PG: Wright, Rivers SG: Freeman, Clark 3G/SF: Stephenson, Thompson PF: Monroe, Sims C: Braswell, Macklin, RowleyorRiley
Lance is a one and done barring something unforseen (age limit change, injury etc)... But they say one and dones are good if they can be the guy to give your team that bush over the top. There is no doubt that that lineup, WITHOUT Lance, has the nucleus to compete for a national title. WITH him, yea, that just might be enough to push us over the top if everyone stayed healthy. On top of that, landing Lance would be great because it would a) give us some more play in the NYC market (good for marketing) and b)would give us a player who is likely going to excel in the NBA, which means that more young players will aspire to be like Lance and want to go to Georgetown as a result (this has happened with a lot of players over the years but a good recent example is Carmelo and the loads of kids who have wanted to play for a grumpy old man at a school in icy cold northern NY just because Anthony did it).

Yeah, RB, I've been thinking the same thing. I didn't say anything since I didn't want to get my hopes up. That would just be disgusting.

Exactly, haha. I also love when he yells at Lance to throw down the windmill as time expires. Now that is coaching, my friends.
