BandG ;D, Now that is a good dream. I guess Mrs. BandG revoked your Big Boy morning show privileges after you made her attend some of Hollis' games. Funny you remember that... Mrs.B&G gave me clearance to go to as many Hollis games as I want next year. I look forward to reporting on him. Keep it coming Balla!

I think it's obvious for Lance--his High School has same color uniform, he wears #1 which is now available--he'd be joining a team in '10 who will be a serious contender to win it all, and he might be the final piece needed--of course I'm not biased.

You're not kidding RDF. If Monroe and Summers stay and we add Lance... we definitely have the components to win it all. Its that simple. In addition to some of the YouTube video I've seen on Lance... I saw a peice on him taking on OJ Mayo as a sophmore. Interestingly, I think their game is very similar... although Lance may have a better jumper and could be a bit more explosive. Any thoughts on this comparison?

From what i have seen of lance (all those youtube videos and the documentary made about him) he seems like a game breaker, able to take over when its need, but also able to involve everyone because he has good fundamentals. Seems like he could make the difference between an elite 8 team and a Nat'l champion. of course i have only seen highlights, which are of course only the highs.
my one concern is that in his documentary his father was talking about how the family was really poor and struggled to make ends meet and that lance need basketball to get to the NBA and get out of that life. But i did really see that when his dad rented out a club for lances bday and hired MIMS to perform at it. with all this Mayo stuff it makes me only a little suspicious. (im NOT suspicious because they are a black family living in coney island, i am suspicious because the dad was talking about how they didnt have the money, but the story didnt seem to line up, its not a racial thing) whether they have the money or not doesnt matter, i just wouldnt like Gtown to get into a thing like USC.

Interesting that he is listed as a small forward. doesnt he usually play SG? is he trying to change or is it just the roster situation?

Any thoughts on this comparison? Actually...Lance was an 8th grader headed to the 9th when he took on OJ, a rising senior, at ABCD. It was in NJ and Lance had a lot of supporters there who started hyping up a couple baskets he put on OJ and it went to his head and he started trash...OJ proceeded to humiliate him after that. One time he came down the floor and someone else was guarding him...OJ demanded that he got off of him and screamed at Lance to come guard him...drills a 3 right in his face. But the fact that he was gutsy enough to go at the #1 player in the class at the time says alot about his competitiveness.

Just curious since it's not up in the 2009 thread (at least I didn't see it), but is Lance ranked number 1 in 2009? Seems he'd definitely be top 5. He doesn't appear at all in the recruiting/ranking table in here. Besides the Hoyas and UNC, are any other schools close to getting Lance to choose them? Thanks in advance...

he's ranked #3 in scouts current rankings, but they will be updating them later in the summer. teams currently listed according to scout are: Memphis, Arkansas, North Carolina, UCLA, Louisville, Texas, West Virginia, Indiana, Kansas.

At this point, with the commitment of a certain Mr. Riley, I think it can be said in all modesty that if Lance wants to jump start his pro career there's no better way to do it than at Georgetown. Not discounting this season, but if Lance came to Georgetown he would join a possible preseason #1 in the country squad.
If he wants national exposure then he's got to do it on a young and fresh team like Carmelo did it. Sure, Carmelo may not have known it when he committed, but he at least knew the core was there, and while he was in the shadow of a certain LBJ, he ended up a household name by the end of the tournament. People who don't know anything about basketball know who Carmelo Anthony is, and that's what you want, which easily guaranteed him a huge endorsement deal when he made it into the league.
Look at OJ Mayo, he wanted national exposure, joined a mediocre USC team, and was out in the second round of the dance, no draft buzz for him. Carmelo, while well-known among basketball types, guaranteed himself a top pick in the draft by winning the tourny. People like Derrick Rose who was probably a top-five draft pick before his freshman year is now being talked about as a slight favorite over Michael Beasley for the #1 pick, and all because he got to showcase his talent at the highest level. Switch their places, and Beasley takes the top spot easily, grabs himself a huge endorsement deal, and never looks back.
Teams like USC, UCLA, Duke, and UNC, while all good squads, are simply too soft to take it past teams like Memphis, Kansas, and Georgetown. And out of the hard-nosed teams, Georgetown will be on its way up to the peak in '09 while Memphis and Kansas will be losing talent. Lance coming to Georgetown puts his name out there throughout the season, and especially come March when the whole nation turns its eyes on the Big East Tournament and the NCAA's, and that name will be at the top of the list. I agree with everyone on here who's been saying that this year Georgetown will be a national contender, but with Lance it would just put them over that threshold into national power. That's where you want to be.

For somebody with no draft buzz, it sure looks like Mayo and Melo are going in the exact same spot.

That's not the point. Do you think that Mayo is a name as well known as Melo at the same period of each of their careers?

That's where you want to be. UCLA soft? Didn't UNC win the championship about 3 years ago? We have improved immensely over the past few years, but to say that going to UCLA or UNC is dumb because they won't succeed like Gtown sounds a little weird considering the success both teams have had recently. I'm just saying....

Last time I checked you almost have full turnover in 3 years, which last time I checked would make you almost a completely different team.

Mayo has hype now, but the way he wanted it. He's about to have USC on probation in a minute.
