College Hoops Player of the Week: Otto Porter Jr., GeorgetownQUOTE:Porter, easily the most talented player on the Georgetown roster, was the biggest reason for their success this week. He finished with averages of 18.0 points and 10.5 boards, gathering three steals and three blocks while shooting 52.2% from the floor and 5-9 from three.

Am I just being cranky, or does that "easily the most talented player..." line irk anyone else?
I mean, Otto IS our most talented player (well, outside of Aaron Bowen ;D ), but I think it's the "easily" part that seems like an insult to the rest of the team.
Fell free to let me know if I am being too sensitive. It's been known to happen.

Sports "Journalism" 101, as taught by S.I. Newhouse School of Communication: When forced to say something nice about a Hoya, make sure to bury it under several nasty quips about Hoyas. Unfortunately, this rule is operative here on the board for quite a few posters as well.

Lebron is easily the most talented player on the Heat.
I don't think it's a jab at the Hoyas, but I don't want to read too much into it.

It is a slap at Markel who is scoring almost as many points as Otto. He is a guard who can't do all the things a forward can do so he isn't going to pull down as many boards, but I would imagine other teams watching tape of his nasty cross over step back and tear drop shots are focusing on him just as much as Porter.

Markel is a fine player having an inconsistently good season. Otto is projected as a Top 10 pick in almost every mock draft were he to come out after this season. It is no "slap" to suggest that Otto Porter is more talented than Markel Starks, and by a decent margin at that.

The writer could have phrased it better. There's little question that what he said is true, but without a bit more context it does seem a little dismissive of the Hoyas as a team.
OTOH, a lot of writers and editors can't really write or edit.

Can you imagine what our team would be like if Otto stayed for his junior campaign??? We'd be deep, have a bunch of upperclassmen, a great point guard, great wings and a great big. We'd be a top 5 team.

Hey guys -- Otto gets a great national shout out ... and we are complaining about it? He IS our best player. We have a team... for sure. Lots of talented kids on the team. But, don't we all know this team isn't nearly as good if we did not have Otto? Let's say Otto went out for the semester instead of GW. Would our team be as good? Congratulations to Otto Porter Jr!

Early in the year Greg really stepped up when Otto was out. The only real difference between Otto and Greg is their jumper. Both are heady players and both can board. We'd still be around the same kind of team if we switched out Otto for Greg.

We'd still be around the same kind of team if we switched out Otto for Greg. We might be the same type of team, but we wouldn't be nearly as good. Whittington has never been the offensive player that Porter is, and that would make a huge difference. Porter's offensive efficiency is 113.0 compared to Whittington's 98.2. Last year, Porter's efficiency was 117.5 compared to Whittington's 96.7. Don't get me wrong, Whittington is a great player for us, and we would be a better team with him, but Whittington has a way to go on offense to reach Porter's level.

No we wouldn't. I love Greg, but Porter, Jr is playing fantastic right now. His three pt shooting alone makes him far more dangerous.

Speaking of Otto: do we have any indications from either he or family that he might enter draft this year? I know all the mock drafts have him top ten (and climbing), so it would seem that he would go. It's just that he and family have not gone the "conventional" route before, so maybe....? I am surely enjoying his development this year (3-pt. shooting!!) but if he returned...wow.
