Wonder why it took Greg being declared ineligible to make this change. Because it didn't? Hopkins' time and usage were already being drastically cut by the time Greg went out. The writer is building a narrative for his story that's not really true. What has happened since Greg has gone out is that Otto has been more assertive and he's been really hot shooting-wise. The former has a lot to do with Greg going out (he had to step up). The latter I doubt.

The offensive numbers that Otto is putting up are incredible given the ineptness of the offense as a whole. Such a treat to watch him play.

We have three efficient players, one of whom (Nate) is so because he's very discerning about when he shoots. Everyone else is below 100.

I don't think it's appropriate to make assessments just off the last 5 games. Go back in time a little and I think people were mixed 50 50 on who is better pro potential with the slight edge to Greg. Why would that change in a month'a time. Has that changed? Otto's been awesome, but he's always been the better player and I think most of the board has thought that all year. Pro potential has a lot to do with size and athleticism relative to the position you can play. Greg has the athleticism to defend NBA 3s and probably 2s -- so at 6'8"/9", that's great NBA 2 guard size and good NBA 3 size. Otto is more of a 3/4 -- he's a very good team defender and does well on the perimeter but I can't see him guarding a lot of NBA 2s. At 6'8", he's fine at the 3, but ideally you've love to play him as a inside-out 4 -- his game is perfect for that in the NBA -- but at 6'8" he's shorter than most NBA 4s, and against quite a few by a decent amount. So Otto can be a much better college player and still not have as much NBA potential. Athleticism and size mean SO much more in the NBA.

Agree with SF, Otto is your great college player that may not translate into a great NBA player. I think he is a 3 in the NBA. I just cannot see Otto at the 4 in the NBA and he is not a 2 by any means. I do think he will bolt after this season and who can blame him, but I do not look at him as a superstar at the next level, he is a nice #2 guy at best.

Yep -- and people shouldn't think of that as a bad thing. If he's a 10 year starter, that's a huge accomplishment. He's a very talented player but he's not LeBron.

I seriously don't understand why people think Otto isn't athletic or that a lack of athleticism will hinder him at the next level.

Georgetown sophomore Otto Porter's profile rising nationallyQUOTE: "He should've been on the rookie team last year," Thompson said.
It's an assertion that was backed by up the Big East coaches themselves, who went from overlooking Porter in March to making him a preseason player of the year candidate in October.
With a third of the current season remaining, Porter has done everything to justify that accolade and more. Georgetown's conference opponents know only too well what he has done to carry the Hoyas (16-4, 6-3 Big East) and solidify his status as a frontrunner for the league's most prestigious individual honor. But it takes more than a brief glance at his statistics to realize that he deserves equal consideration at the national level.
Heading into the weekend, Porter (14.8 ppg, 7.6 rpg) doesn't lead the Big East in a single major individual category. But he's among the top 15 players in six, a breadth of impact matched by Michigan point guard Trey Burke. Other national player of the year favorites Doug McDermott (Creighton), Cody Zeller (Indiana) and Jeff Withey (Kansas) are the same in five categories in their respective conferences.

"He ranks tied for 11th in the BIG EAST in scoring, third in the league in rebounds, but also ranks among the league leaders in field goal percentage (ninth, 51.3%), three-point field goal percentage (fourth, 45.5%), steals (seventh, 1.80 spg), blocked shots (T15th, 1.05 bpg) and defensive rebounds (2nd, 6.15 rpg)"
Yeah, he should have made the rookie team, but thanks for the motivation.

Can we get some MVP chants going when Otto is at the foul line?

Man think about how hard it is for a Hoya to win POY when you play the kind of pace we do. Porter is a billion times better than Jack Cooley, just like everyone on our roster was 400 times better than Luke Harangody.

It still amazes me how similar in every capacity Cooley and Harangody are. I would throw Aaron Gray in there, but that would be insulting to Jake Voskul and Travis Knight.

Does GU still play at a "pace?" From what I've seen, the Princetown Offense is really watered down for this team.

Does GU still play at a "pace?" From what I've seen, the Princetown Offense is really watered down for this team. According to Pomeroy, out of some 347 DI teams, the Hoyas pace ranks 304th, so quite slow. However, ND plays even slower, ranking 330th, so Cooley and Porter are likely getting similar opportunities for scoring and rebounding, albeit playing different places on the floor. Where Otto is not getting nearly enough credit is on defense - his blocks and steals are impressive for his size, but even more impressive is his team/help defense, especially in the PnR.
