Vin Parise @vinparise John Thompson III on @snytv when we asked him if there’s a better player in the country than Otto Porter…“Nope, and it’s not even close.”

Based on this quote from Hoya target Isaac Copeland, it appears Otto is already helping us attract more versatile wings:
“I really like what they do with their versatile forwards and the success they’ve had with players like Otto Porter and others. They can play any style and any pace and they play hard. I’ve talked to Coach Thompson a couple times and I like him and really like the fact that he demands a lot from his guys and wants them to play the right way.”
Quotes like this make me realize that regardless of whether Otto is playing for Georgetown or in the NBA next year, he's definitely going to be helping Georgetown regardless. Success in the NBA will definitely help recruiting.

There isn't a player that is playing better than Otto right now in the country. Otto should be on the short list for Nat'l POY and he should all but have the BE POY locked up. My top 5 for POY right now would be Otto, Vic, TBurke, KAppling, and CZeller............. in that order........ ;D ;D ;D

Can't we change the title of this thread to Another Good Week for Otto?

I'm quite certain Otto knows that too. If that doesn't demonstrate how good and how important he's been to this Hoya team, not much else will.

From those responsible for the destruction of the Big East: King's Court: The perfect playerQUOTE:What if you could build the ultimate college basketball player, Mr. Potato Head-style?
How tall would you make your point guard? Would speed be a factor for a center? Sure, you want your small forward to be able to score, but does it matter if he rebounds?
Of course it does.
Or at least it should if you truly want to construct a dream player, a guy at each position who possesses the very best traits of the top college basketball players from around the country.
After discussing the issue with four Division I coaches and three NBA scouts -- whose comments are sprinkled in below -- here's how I'd construct my team. And please note, I picked players based on how they project at the next level. For instance, while Ben McLemore is playing small forward for Kansas, he'll likely be a shooting guard as a pro, so that's where he appears on this list.
My ideal small forward would have …
1. Otto Porter's frame: The 6-8, 205-pound Georgetown sophomore is a matchup nightmare for opposing small forwards. He's got long, lanky arms and legs that make him a menace to drive by or score over, so it's no surprise that he averages two steals and a block per game. Porter also possesses a nice shooting touch that makes him effective under the basket, from midrange and beyond the 3-point arc. Porter shoots 50 percent from the field and 44 percent from beyond the 3-point arc, phenomenal numbers for a player of his size who does a ton of scoring outside of the paint. "He's shot up our [draft] board more than anyone the past few weeks," a scout said.

Reminds me of JT3 convincing Greg Monroe to commit with clips of Jeff Green

So 5 honor rolls and 0 player of the week awards. Still, gotta think that if the Hoyas keep winning, Otto will win the Player of the Year Award he deserves.

Looking at the best players on the top 6 teams, here's Otto's competition for Big East POY based on the weekly awards:
Russ Smith: 1 Player of the Week, 5 honor rolls Brandon Triche: 1 Player of the Week, 3 honor rolls Shabazz Napier: 2 POW, 4 honor rolls
And two dark horses: CJ Fair: 1 POW, 1 honor roll Jack Cooley: 0 POW, 2 honor rolls
Sean Kilpatrick has 2 POW awards and 5 honor rolls, but Cincinnati already has 6 losses, so it seems highly unlikely they'll be able to finish with a double bye, let alone the top 2 finish that seems to be required to win POY.

And in case you're wondering how Otto's stats rank in the Big East in comparison with how Jeff Green's POY statistics ranked, here you go:
Jeff was 15th in PPG, 24th in RPG, 20th in APG, 13th in BPG, 13th in FG% and 62nd in Stls. Otto is 10th in PPG, 3rd in RPG, 28th in APG, 17th in BPG, 9th in FG% and 7th in Stls.
