Assuming we can dream....any thoughts on a starting line up of Abraham 6'9", Monroe 6'10", Hollis 6'8", Freeman 6'4", Wright 6'1"? I kinda like this with Clark, Vaughn, Lubick, Markel, Vee, JB and HS as 6-12 off the bench. Lubick should start from day 1.

INDEED jgalt! .. and I'm sure JTIII will be able to figure things out once he see's all this talent in front of him. He may adjust the line-up a few times before he gets a feel for what type of rotation is needed and who will earn the most minutes. It should be interesting to see which players will work their tail off the most and have the biggest improvement. These freshman will push the starters as well as the bench players. I'm hoping we see a huge improvement from Henry (which I will peg as my player to watch next season) He will have the system and "O" down pack and I'm sure he knows where he needs to improve. Once he puts it all together , he should earn his time and help this squad in a few ways. After the big THREE (GREG COME BACK BIG FELLA!) .. It's rather up for grabs with exception of Clark (who should have a leg up on the rest of the players). I'm hoping Hollis makes a huge jump and pushes Jason for that 4th spot which would only make us longer and have a scoring threat off the bench in Jason. I'm not the coach and like I said , I'm sure Coach has it all under control. He must be drooling to get the season started after this years sad ending. I'm beyond excited and I have a good feeling about next year.

I'm sorry to everyone who has grand hopes but Moses is NOT starting. He is an offensive project at this point. Hopefully he will get 5-10 minutes from the start and can develop more but we will be DEEP and experienced next year!!!

Hoya Saxa! Welcome, Moses!
Kinda helps with the news about the "no go in Fargo" for the football team.

The best five players should start Why do people always say this? Let's say Monroe leaves and Starks turns out to be a hell of a player from the start. You want us to throw out a lineup of Wright, Starks, Clark, Freeman, with Hollis taking the tip?

Let's try this. Accept a starting 5 of Wright, Freeman, Benimon, Monroe, Sims. How do you think the rest of the team would do in the BE next season as a separate entity?
PG: Starks SG: Clark G: Hollis PF: Lubick C: Vaughn
Bench: Bowen, Moses, Vee
Maybe .500?

Sorry to have to do this, I'm thrilled Moses is coming to Georgetown, but the title of this thread deeply offends my Alonzo Mourning sensibilities. Greatest shot blocker since who? Are you kidding me? C'mon people, I would expect this to be the title of a thread on an Indiana board. Alonzo Mourning is arguably the greatest, most insistent and most menacing interior defender and shot blocker in the history of Basketball, let alone best at Gtown since Ewing, and yes, I remember Deke. The man averaged 12 blocks per game as a Senior and National High School Player of The Year, then set the single season record for most blocked shots in NCAA history as a Freshman with 169, and almost broke it his Senior season with 160. He blocked alot less shots his Soph and Junior years due both to injury and Deke's interior meddlings. Still, he ranks on the top 5 all time shot blockers in NCAA history for his career. He went on to average almost 3 blocks a game in the NBA, and contributed game changing interior defense as a backup to Shaq as the Heat won an NBA title in 2006. Not to mention a pair of Defensive player of the year awards. Shoot, I remember Zo stuffing a Shaq two handed dunk attempt in an All-Star game for goodness sakes. I don't mean to seem prickly, but a few years ago when Okafer lead UConn to a title, Jim Nantz called him the best center in the Big East since Ewing, and my head exploded. The notion that Okafer would have ever been able to shake off the destruction a young Zo would have put on him makes me laugh snot bubbles. So, all due respect to KCHoya, and I know this references a Pops quote, and I know I've only seen snippets of Moses, but this affront to Zo should not stand...
How about, "Another great Shotblocker comes to Georgetown"?

it's a quote from Big John! It said he was the best shotblocker he saw in hs since Ewing.

You would figure that Moses being closer to Mourning in height than Pat Ewing would make the comparison easier for Pops.
ProfessrHoya I only have Benimon starting because I needed to juice the team of reserves up with Hollis. I am just pumped for the quality depth.

The fact is, Moses Abraham may possess better physical attributes for shot blocking than Zo, as did Ewing, and quite a few other players who have played the game. I remember seeing Kwame Brown send some shots back as a rook, I almost wet myself with excitement. Frankly, I don't care what Pops said, I wouldn't care if it was Zo himself who said the same thing, I don't care if a cloned 18 year old Patrick Ewing himself commits to Gtown tomorrow, he still won't be the best shotblocker to come here since Ewing, it is ridiculous, and unnecessarily dismissive of one of the greatest college players I have ever seen... Alonzo Harding Mourning!!!!

The thread title paraphrases the quote in the Post article linked in the initial post:
In that quote, Thompson is not necessarily dismissing Mourning. He could simply have been saying the kid blocks shots LIKE Ewing (who definitely had a different style than Mourning).
Semantics arguments are FUN, aren't they?

Yes, Pops' quote is ambiguous, the title of this thread is not...
Change it!!!
