Para....Bronxie agrees. Looks like JTIII is going balls to the wall. Look at this recruiting season and look at the 2011 class. He is going after the big dogs. (Seems that most people think Christmas will be a Hoya).
Next years team on paper if Monroe stays is the best team we have had since 1989. This squad is loaded. Practices will be a blood bath. Monroe and Vaughn going at it....Simms and Moses....Starks and Wright....Freeman vs Clark.....Lubick....Bowen and Vee. I really like this Bowen pick up. I am excited as hades.

I am a big believer that the losses to Rutgers & USF were caused by 2 major factors: 1) Lack of practice intensity . How can you possibly make this claim without actually being in practice?

I make that claim out of sheer common sense. Any person that has played team sports knows that if there is competition for playing time IN GAMES that practices are by nature MORE INTENSE. By practicing against better players you also have to RAISE YOUR GAME in practice. 1+1= 2.

That may be common sense, but if you have not actually seen what goes on in practice that's simply your common sense supposition.

Congratulations III and staff for closing the deal. I can see the emphasis on depth and competition is back in a big way.
Wow! Let me know when it's not too early to start projecting rotations and minutes per game for next years team! If Greg stays - amazing. If not - still a wealth of depth and talent!

Welcome, Moses! Defense and rebounding will be the question marks repeated over and over next pre-season, just like depth (and chemistry at the start of the season) was this season.

Great decision by Moses to come to the Hilltop and follow the Hoya legends of the low block. I am really excited to see this kid come in and immediately play the role of rebounder and shot blocker. If he excels at just those to things, he will get real minutes because we have more than enough offensive firepower to make up for any deficiencies he may have on O. I also love the depth III is building and I agree with all that the more legit competition for playing time the better. It should bring out the best in everyone.

This class is the beginning of a new era, I think. All four guys coming in next year will be 4 years players (as far as I can tell, and I can't them being anything less than 3-year players) and have good size and ability. Our 2008 class of Sims and Clark wasn't really a core to build around, and neither was our 2009 class (not that I don't think Hollis won't be an excellent starter and Vee/Jerrelle good role players.).
Moses+Nate+Aaron+Markel gives us a Center, PF, SG, and PG that will be in a position to be effective players after Freeman and Wright graduate. I am excited about that core, and would like to see it followed with a class that features a superstar (or two) that can add that special x-factor to the mix.

And I also agree with the poster above who spoke on competition in practice. Anyone who doesnt buy into that probably has little experience actually playing basketball. If I know my minutes are guaranteed, it is more likely than not I will: not go as hard on D; not go as hard in practice b/c i can score quite easily on Ryan Dougherty and he is no threat to my minutes; take shots I probably shouldnt take in games because there is no consequence... In any event, it is great to have depth. Now can we please implement a press that will get us playing uptempo since our starters now longer have to log 38 minutes per game. And lastly, please play these guys early and often. Dont wait til the BE tourney to start giving minutes because at that point there can be no real expectation for productivity. WELCOME MOSES!!

Is everyone forgetting last year. We were supposed to have "depth" then too. With Sapp and Summers providing "veteran" leadership, freeman, and wright having another year under their belts and monroe, clark, simms making the "sophomore leap" as well as adding Vaughn.
We all know how that turned out. It's okay to be excited. I'm excited - but lets not set the expectations too high. The team needs to play hard everyday; get better as the season progresses and see what happens in the post season.

Last year's expectations for this year or last year itself? If the former, Sapp graduated and no one expected Summers to be around. If the latter, how could Monroe, Clark, and Sims make sophomore leaps as freshman?

I think joey was referring to 2008-09. I will say that he's right in that people always think there will be this massive depth over the summer and they never account for players not being as ready as they think. What I will say is that if Greg returns, we can't help but have more depth: - We will actually carry 13 scholarship players as opposed to nine.
- While there is no improvement guaranteed, I think we can safely say that at least one of the frosh will likely contribute (just odds) and that Vee will give more over the course of a season. And I'm pretty comfortable that Hollis will be better as well.
The key, of course, is between Greg staying, Lubick, Abraham and Sims performing and Vaughn playing more than 20 minutes. Our problems with depth don't exist at the guard spots. We need some big depth, because when we go to 1 big, that's when our rebounding collapses and our D collapses.
