I've been thinking about this game ever since MD. I like our chances a lot. A fair amount of the things they killed us last year with I would assume are not such big strengths for them anymore (I have to assume as I haven't seen them play this year yet).
1. No Rose -- that kid was disgustingly good, and I'm glad we don't have to match up with him this year.
2. No CDR -- see above comment.
3. Our guards are more athletic than theirs this year. Last year, even when we were winning, I was worried that we were playing a little too fast for our guards. I don't think that Evans and Mack are going to force Chris and Jessie to play at a speed they can't handle.
4. The one guy who killed us last year that I personally was not expecting to was Dozier. My take on what happened was that we were forced to go to a zone because we couldn't keep up with them off the bounce. But when we went to the zone, they got the ball to Dozier at ease, and Roy wasn't quick enough to both flash out to guard that 15 foot jumper and get back in position for boards. First of all, I dont' think they're going to have as much success off the dribble, given that they don't have Rose and CDR anymore, and given that Chris is a lot quicker than Jon was. Second, I think Greg is going to be able to do both of those things in the zone, and will make life harder on them than we did for them last year.
I'm still worried about a number of things -- namely rebounding and turnovers. They have a lot of size on us at their 1-3 positions and I'm sure Taggart has developed into a nice rebounder. But if we come out and play like we have this year, I think we have a good shot at this one.

My thoughts: HoyaProspectusI'll probably add something to it later, and CO may want to add thoughts, but this is the quick and dirty. I have a take very similar to chep's -- they destroyed us on dribble penetration. Evans can supply some, but replace Rose and CDR? Obviously no lock, but I like our chances.

Taggert is foul prone. Really all of their bigs are. Shot selection is huge with Tyreke. I like the Hoyas chances too.

This is Memphis' first road game as well. They have a neutral court loss to Xavier in Puerto Rico, but they haven't played in a hostile arena yet.

Who draws the Evans assignment? Jessie? He's the only guy I'm really worried about on the perimeter. I fully agree with SF's HP post. If we play like we're capable, we're fine. If we don't take care of our own business, we'll be in trouble.

If we don't take care of our own business, we'll be in trouble. But does he play on the perimeter? From what little I've seen of Memphis really no one seems to shoot 3 pointers (well not with any sucess). Unlike Tennessee they don't have a Tyler Smith or Bobby Maze or random freshman that make circus shots with hands in their faces (or at least I hope not). Tyreke likes to make wild drives to the hoop and get bailed out by a foul/temate getting a put back, which I realize is part of their offense and used to great success against us last season*. *It didn't help that they shot WAY above their season average from the free throw line in that game as well.

*It didn't help that they shot WAY above their season average from the free throw line in that game as well. Ding ding ding! That, and that CDR used our game to break out of his slump. If we match their intensity without losing our focus, our game and personnel beat their game and personnel. I have a better feeling about our ability to do so this year than last, even though we were generally able to achieve this until the hard foul on Summers. If not, we have a better chance than last year (certainly the change in venue will help) but it will still be an uphill climb.

Good luck vs. Caligula and the bandits.
Make a statement for the BIG EAST and Georgetown both.

Our Hoyas are going to come out and play a VERY strong game against Memphis after losing in TN last year. We have one helluva great team in the making!

we need to win this game. revenge for last year, it's at home, and it would be nice to win at least 2 of the 4 marquee non conference games (tenn, md, memphis, duke). we have to do a better job against the athletic memphis defense than we did against tenn. if i were calipari, i'd play zone and trap out of it against us. if we rebound and take care of the ball, we'll win by 10+.

We definitely can beat this team, we just need to step up our defensive intensity, take care of the ball and REBOUND!!!!

Memphis has an 11 day gap between their last game (against Marist) and Saturday. I wouldn't be surprised to see them bring out something specifically designed to beat us (and no, I don't believe that the Tigers didn't have time to put in some new stuff because they were studying for finals)

i know it's about exam time for the current students and some even have exams DURING the game so I hear....what can we expect in terms of turnout so that we can make this a hostile home crowd environment??? also for the rest of the crowd is this game sold out yet or not??
