You forgot to close the tag. If you click on this link: ncaabbs.com/forumdisplay.php?fid=499You'll see great comments, such as this: "If we lose to Georgetown then we won't make it past the 2nd round this year. I haven't seen anything from Georgetown that excites me or makes me think they're even a contender or in the upper echelon in the Big East. I would be more afraid of playing UAB/Tulsa on the road the Hoyas. If we score in the 70's then we will win this game. " AND THIS: "My comment was based on the simple fact that Georgetown is garbage this year, The Verizon Center is not as hostile of an environment as TBA in Knoxville also so this shouldn't be that hard of a road game for us. I don't know if yall have watched GT this year but that are pitiful and I don't see any advantage they have over us period. This would be a horribly embarrassing and demoralizing loss for our team and their ego if we get beat by this year's Georgetown team. I'm more afraid of the Orangemen at home than the Hoyas on the road by far."

To be fair, both of those comments are by the same poster.

I think we match up really well with Memphis, they will have to find an answer for Greg, we already have an answer for their offense. They lack the shot-blocking and rebounding presence that they had inside last year - that is a big difference. They also looked very weak in their Xavier loss. I'm confident that the fans of Memphis are taking this more seriously than the posters on their message boards.

As much as I loved watching our second team put up season-high numbers for themselves last night, I believe it imperative that our starters, specifically Greg, avoid cheap fouls that could keep them on the bench for significant stretches of time. If we can do that and avoid turning over the ball 20 times then we should be in pretty good shape.

bingo Hoya Addict. If Greg plays 25+ minutes and we have < 15 turnovers = GU W.

That is some major bulletin board material. What a moron. JTIII needs to show that one to the team on Saturday morning.

That 75 possessions per game. from Memphis is pretty impressive as well, especially in comparison to our 66 per. I'd think Memphis pressing would work to our advantage by demonstrably slowing the pace of the game, but our team has yet to face that type of pressure, so the jury's still out. Turnovers, rebounding and defense will continue to tell the story for us, and I would expect to see a great deal of zone daring Memphis to make some 3FGAs. I'd also like to see a lot fewer 3FGAs on our side. Plus, we could stand to shoot the ball a little better than in recent outings. haha you mean better than the 60% we shot last game?? Yeah. We are shooting nowhere near our potential, much less consistently. And the consistent loss of defensive and offensive focus in the second half is gonna be our downfall. You would think the team is up by 50 points by the way they are playing. There is no excuse for that.

um, something tells me that -- in preparation for gameday -- JTIII will not resort to the comments of some dunderhead on a random memphis message board as motivation for his team. Methinks there is plenty of motivation (home win streak, revenge for last year, ranked opposition) that JTIII can rely on in this case.
I expect from Memphis graduates (?) about the same level of analysis as Orange fans...though i don't know which fanbase would regard that as the bigger insult.

A poster's opinion of positional advantages: ncaabbs.com/showthread.php?tid=333791He states Monroe vs Dozier is even. That Freeman v Antionio Anderson is adv Anderson with the following reasoning: "Freeman is a fundamentally talented player that plays with a big heart. Anderson is an equally fundamentally talented player with a bigger heart." Obviously I am biased but those are some serious rose colored glasses if you claim that a player from your team has a bigger heart than the next without watching them. This may have been mentioned but I am very interested to see how Greg will handle Niles out of all their bigs. As Niles will be the closest thing he sees to Onuaku before they match up.

Cardiomegaly (esp. due to ventricular hypertrophy) is a very serious condition. I suggest Anderson stay in Memphis this weekend and try to see a doctor immediately. The poster also said this: "Vaughn and Sims will spell the frontline for the Hoyas. They are young role players at this point. Henderson-Niles alone can offset the two of them" Well duh, have you seen how big that guy is? Of course he can offset Vaughn and Sims.

To be fair, both of those comments are by the same poster. Also, the most recent comments on there are really favorable to GU and present a more balanced perspective. I expect a great game and think it's a toss-up, with a slight edge to GU for home court.

Addict is right on. Key to our winning is Greg staying out of foul trouble.

We still owe Calipari for the 96 regional final in Atlanta. His pros denied Allen, Victor, Othella and Jerome Williams a final four. Last year only adds more fuel. Go get 'em Hoyas!

That stuff from the Memphis board is priceless. If that's the prevailing wisdom around college hoops, then I am going to love this season. I think the Hoyas are a lot better than most pundits and fans think - by March we'll be a title contender.

we will see the youngins just MIGHT BE READY for this one we will see go hoyas I think that's right. They want to: - avenge last year's loss
- play well at home
- show the country just how good they can be
- keep JT3 off their butts for not playing their best!

Also in terms of student attendance- the general vibe I've gotten is that a lot of people didnt go last night so that they could make sure they would be able to go on Saturday. I have a feeling pretty much only the people who actually have an exam during the game (12:30-2:30 or 4-6) won't be there, just about anyone who's done is sticking around, and the people who arent are actually attempting to not procrastinate so they can get to this game. Its pretty clear this will be one of the bigger matchups all year and definitely the biggest non-conference at home in a while.
