Excellent sentiments, Nevada. I'm sitting in Chicago wishing I could attend. I hope that the folks in NYC raise a glass to absent friends.

Nice catch, WBH. How about adding a scene with Krzyzewski deciding to have elective back surgery during the middle of a season in which he fields his weakest tem in years, thus foisting off inevitable losses on his long-suffering assistant, while maintaining his all-important won/loss record.

et tenebrae eam non comprehenderunt.
Come on Frank, with two Duke losses I was hoping for some explanation that tied them to the fallacies in John Wesley's arguments.

Frank Black postings always used to be an event: "Will it be Marian theology this time, or maybe some Prussian military history?" Now we learn about doing the dishes. I , for one, feel poorer because of the emergence of New Frank.

I love it. I had to live in Durham when Duke started to make a name for itself choking in Final 4's (Hello, Andrew Gaze!). The free pass that K gets in the media is amazing. When I was in Durham, the Chronicle ran an article moderately critical of a couple of players. K invited the Chronicle sports staff to stop by for a chance to "Meet the Team." With the team standing behind him, he then went into a long tirade against the students (liberally laced with profanity) saying that they didn't support him. One of the student reporters, of course, had a tape recorder running in his bag and got the whole thing. Tiny blow up, but then all forgotten.
I cannot imagine Thompson (II or III) being thin-skinned enough to lure the student newspaper into a meeting under false pretenses in order to scream at them. But that episode is emblematic of Duke basketball. Smug and insecure, all at the same time.

Gold Coast, does Grand Central have food (it did not when it was the old Club 950)? I'm supposed to take my wife and twin toddlers out to dinner tonight. Perhaps I could suggest a great new place on Wrightwood which, by a startling coincidence, would be Grand Central.
Can't wait to stick it to the BC Hessians. Then let's send them off to play their new natural rival, Clemson.
Hoya, Hoya Saxa!

I agree that his apology is disingenuous. The man is President of the University. If he believes a bad decision is being made, it's his obligation to do something.
My guess is Molloy would never have made this statement if everything worked out and ND had been able to hire Urban Meyer. Instead he, along with everybody else in South Bend, would have been talking about National Championships. The fact that Molloy is going public with his position suggests that he's trying to distance himself from a fiasco.

The Chicago Tribune reported this morning that Willingham's firing was the result of the actions of some key trustees who were disappointed with his performance and who were convinced that they could hire Urban Meyer. On the second point, their intelligence was obviously faulty. The Tribune has a full-time beat writer assigned to Notre Dame sports, so what it says on this issue likely is the result of some good information.
I don't know if anyone answered DFW's question about Frank Leahy, so I will. Leahy came to ND from Boston College.

I agree, the hippo is a stretch. However, it beats a guy dressed as a giant citrus.
