I am a third of the way through a 24 pack, flipping through the channels watching highlights of other games, checked the BE standings. That's all it takes for me. One conference win. I am having the time of my life tonight. And to be 100% clear, I am being dead serious. Really happy to get a win. For a long time fan such as yourself, this speaks volumes about how far the expectations of the men's basketball program have dropped. Where once there were people asking how a #4 seed like Georgetown can't seem to get out of the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament, a one point win at home over a Providence team hovering around .500 is now seen as a tremendous accomplishment. I have always been that way. Even in down years even one crappy conference win makes me very happy. Were you impressed that I remembered that we beat a ranked Seton Hall team twice in 2001 on that Hoop Club zoom?

1. 1988-89: Until the Princeton game, that is, which took the air out of tires which were flat by the Duke game. 2. 1979-80: Remember, they were only one basket short. 3. 1986-87: Playing PC (and Pitino) three times in three weeks was just too much. 4. 1995-96: If they won the Big East, they would have never seen UMass. 5. 2005-06: The best team not to get to the Final 8. Florida's toughest game of the tournament. My clock only starts in 88-89, so for me 1/2 is very clear: 88-89 95-96 Then it is a toss-up between 05-06 and 07-08. DFW has it just right for 88-89. That team was really rolling in January/ February and completely dominated the 89 BET. But we completely lost our mojo v Princeton in Providence.

I love these narratives. Really not worth exploring but I will. Let's start with Coach Ewing doesn't have a good NBA reputation. That's why several Coaches & GM's came out and raved about Coach Ewing's work ethic on the sidelines and still do in interviews when asked. Dwight Howard played for Coach Ewing in Orlando at a time in the NBA when they still had true Centers that posted up and played around the key. When Howard was in Charlotte, they tried to use Howard in a more modern PnR heavy offense (that fit his skill set) alongside Kemba Walker. Let's go to Yurt7 not being used a lot as three point floor spacing BIG. First Coach Ewing isn't against the BIG shooting threes. He had Govan the year before shoot almost four per game. College basketball is different then the NBA. Taking 40 plus 3's a game hasn't proven to the most effective way to win in both college or the NBA. Yurt7 seem to have plenty freedom but was used where he's most effective at this level. How many threes did Anthony Davis or Karl Anthony Towns take while at Kentucky. Didn't hurt their abilities in the NBA. Trust me the whole McClung had to play PG is a garbage narrative for today's NBA. One name that McClung gets compared to in NBA circles is Donte DiVencenzo who was a fist round pick and hasn't played a lick of PG in the Association. Giannis is that teams PG/facilator. With McClung it will be about his skill set (ie ability to shoot/score the ball) and fit of he makes it in the NBA, not his position. I honestly think that if there was a normal NBA draft process with a combine and workouts, he may have gotten drafted this year based on his ELITE athleticism & upside. He would have at least generated a buzz. The NBA draft is more about potential then it is stats or results. His athleticism would stand out in a combine situation and get him a further look. Agree with every sentence. Putting aside the videos with no defenders and the vertical and other statistics, what did Mac do in a year and a half of actual games that exhibited ELITE athleticism. Serious question - not trying to be a jerk. There were maybe a half dozen plays over the course of a season and a half that maybe exhibited elite (lower case) athleticism, not several a game. So in what way did that elite athleticism exhibit itself in games against D1 defenders?

When they cancel the BET tomorrow does this game count? Asking for a few Ewing supporters. From time to time you make valid points and seem to really know basketball and I appreciate those posts / contributions. But a post like this, when tonight’s loss is really raw and painful for most of us, suggests that you really do have an agenda and are just a Edited bag. Please just go away and root for another team. The above post makes it really clear you are a troll and not a fan.

Lots of little things lost this game. Turnovers (Blair had 5, but the most glaring was Mosley’s attempt to bounce pass to Q i traffic) Missed FTs Not really running the offense early in the first half. Inconsistent refereeing with too many anticipation calls by the guy with the worst view of what he was calling (both ways) That said, the compete level of the guys was great and they absorbed a lot of offensive elbows from Gillespie and Bey that could have been called but weren’t. I also though that was the best defensive game they’ve played in a while. Very good crowd. I thought you had a strong performance today as a fan, Dan.

Full house on a Wednesday night, big student section, lots of local support. PA announcer is promoting standing room only tickets for Saturday's game. The college basketball experience at Creighton is everything Georgetown is not right now. Build a smaller on Campus facility (5-6k) and see if we can fill it. Smaller and louder is what I'm thinking. Interesting idea. Strange that no one has discussed that idea the last 25 years.

Not sure what is silly, but the person you are referring to was former Hoya Greg Malinowski

Are there any recruits sitting in the stands? There is a really tall white player with a blond top and dark sides sitting behind the bench, but doesn't look familiar. Greg Malinowski!

Jagan was really disappointed when the horn sounded last night. Dave L. spent a good 30 seconds with him at the end of the handshake line - repeatedly tapping him on the chest. Not surprising that other Big East coaches recognize what Jagan has been through and that he will almost certainly come up short again this year. Of course I have no idea what was actually said, but I feel a little differently about DL after that exchange - can’t imagine it was anything other than recognizing a super hard-working and well-liked 4 year Big East player.

I actually like playing Providence after their big win against Seton Hall. Sets up nicely for us, especially if we can get Omer back. I’m not focused on catching people in the standings as much as scratching out that 8-10 league record. The next 2 games are huge for our chances. We’d be sitting very pretty at 7-7 in the league no matter who is above or below us. Our SOS is so high, the placement in conference is not that relevant. Agree but it is always nice to finish above others It would also be really nice to not have to play Wednesday in the BET. The PC win yesterday hurts in that regard.

In some ways this was like what SH did to us last time -- everytime we showed a run, they had an answer. Today we did that to every challenge. Blair’s answer to McDermotts 3 I thought was the key answer. Exactly. Biggest shot of the game

Baldwin carries the ball on every dribble and blatantly pushes off with his off hand in every drive. Never called on it.

Yeah, but as a percentage of conference teams, 5 out of 10 is more impressive than the 5 we had in 2013 when we had a lot more than 10 conference teams. A couple years ago, many posters on this board were saying that the new "hoops-centric" Big East was doomed and that it marked the beginning of a long, slow death march to irrelevancy for the conference and its members. Others were excited with the possibilities, taking the "if you build it, they will come" mentality. Sell it to the world (Fox Sports, primarily)…! On balance, I think things have turned out just fine. College hoops ain't what it used to be, but that's a dynamic plaguing everyone right now. I think this is a bit understated. The Big East is in tremendous shape right now. Two biggest issues I see are (1) Gtown and SJU have stunk almost the entire time and (2) even with two NCAA championships, pretty underwhelming performance in the tournament overall so far.

Also, while I agree not all Q1 wins are equal, Dayton's Q1 wins are over a 33, 58, 70 teams, none of whom I think will make tournament. Ours are 21, 68, 72 and I think Creighton makes it. Their Q2 wins: 36, 71, 76, 90, (36 is VCU) Our Q2 wins: 62, 64, 72, 78 Their SOS is 41 ours is 8. And Dayton is projected as #2 seed. Have you watched Dayton play? They are really, really good. They are listed with the 5th or 6th best % to win the national championship this year. Not sure they are the team to be comparing resumes to.

Under the circumstances, that’s about as good as it gets. What an effort, and that’s the best atmosphere at a game in so long. Agree regarding atmosphere. After the Blair breakaway layup that was as loud as it has been this year by far.

Just looking at the box score...Mosely needs to get a couple of shots up and Pickett needs to look at passing the ball. Love that Blair has a shooters mentality. To be honest, our best chance to win is if Blair takes most of our shots. Just let it fly JB.

Disagree. The difference is missing open shots. DePauls half court offense is creating way better looks. We look good in transition— that’s about it. Exactly. DePaul is making layups and wide open looks. We are missing difficult, contested shots (other than Pickett who teams are basically not guarding in the perimeter now).
