Kids don’t go to prep school to get better offers, especially if they have D1 offers from schools including Penny Hardaway’s Memphis. If he was good enough for blue bloods they would be at his door step too. So maybe, just possibly, could be, that there is another reason why he is going to prep school. Georgetown didn’t blow it with this kid. Time to move on everyone.

Re the above incident, i don't think ewing has that great a relationship with Dolan, so probably silly from Oakley to think that ewing could have added much value in their dispute. Jordan is a fellow NBA owner--probably has much more regular contact than ewing would Who does have a great relationship with Dolan, certainly not Knicks fans, and it seems not former players. The team may be the worst run in all of professional sports. Knicks fan here.

He has decent offers. If he goes prep it’s not because he wants a better one.

I don’t understand what a brand is. Like Big Baller? I don’t recall a recent player saying they wanted to work on their brand. Maybe their free throw shooting, or in Macs case his three point shooting. Or maybe they want to work on making their team better. But I don’t see what a brand has to do with anything. Question: who is a better NBA prospect, Marcus Derrickson, who has at least one excellent NBA skill, or Mac. I realize they play different positions.

Yes...Deke did say he was a 7 footer. He doesn’t want to be compared to his dad... wants to be his own man. He can do that here at Georgetown...different team, different era...same amazing culture and values. He could help bring back the program to the place where his dad’s program was. We miss those days! He would be a hero. In 88-89 season I’m not sure how much Dikembe played. 89-90 we were a 3 seed and lost in second round to Xavier. 90-91 we were an 8 seed and played UNLV tough but lost in second round. Zo was hurt that years and missed games which hurt our seeding. He also racked up several touch fouls against UNLV and when he was out no one else could contain LJ. With zo in the game things were even. Have the game on tape somewhere in the basement. Would be great to have the younger Mutombo commit and help get us back to and deeper into the tourney.

Happened to see him walking into Thompson center with no boot or limp.

I am not sure that I buy the story that his transfer was solely about him being homesick and that it had nothing to do with the charges that were brought against him by another student. I hope Josh has a good career and finds the happiness he deserves. He is a very talented athlete and I wish things had turned out differently at Georgetown for him. Doesnt add up. (Home sickness) There was obviously the cloud of the incident. And the suspension/reduced playing time. And then the simultaneous transfer portal announcement And simultaneous new school announcement. It’s too bad he left because he was a good kid. I heard thru the grape vine, Kristy Swanson Ferris Bueller style, that a student athlete or athletes were allegedly purchasing something from a student who subsequently filed a restraining order against the student athlete/athletes. The alleged purchased item was not a legal substance, at least not in DC or on campus. There are plenty of players in Hoya History who have not worked out for either on the court or off the court reasons. Just not good with so many at one time.

I posted some of this in another thread, but on the issue of offense (calculated manually by me): Pre-Transfer: 117 3PT Attempts/531 possessions = 22.03% threes Post-Transfer: 75 3PT Attempts/215 possessions = 34.41% threes 3PT Shooting Percentage Pre-Transfer: 33.33% 3PT Shooting Percentage Post-Transfer: 45.95% When you look at the fact that we are taking a lot more threes and making more, it becomes easy to see why we improved. Plus, Akinjo was our worst two point shooter, so it's not to see why we have improved. While Akinjo was good at free throws, everyone else shoots them well, and McClung draws a lot too, so that is not missed much. For what it's worth, the 45.95% three point shooting isn't sustainable - with the old line, the best teams were usually in the 42% range. So, either we cool down, or we will be one of the best shooting teams in the country. On free throws, though, we are taking fewer post-transfer: Pre-Transfer: 117 FTA/531 possessions = 33.71% of possessions were FTAs Post-Transfer: 75 FTA Attempts/215 possessions = 25.58% of possessions were FTAs. Thanks for posting the stats. In some of the closer games Earlier in the season I think the opponent resorted to fouling which increased our FT numbers. Plus Akinjo was good at drawing fouls.

I am waiting to hear what the vertical leap for Gardner is. In his highlights he seemed to have some amazing hops. Going to guess somewhere between 43 and 44 inches.

It’s easy to single out individual players, but the team missed a lot of wide open good shots last night. That said, the fatal flaw this year was the guys never really (except for a couple of games) managed to consistently play effective team defense. Defensive team rebounding was often really poor as it was last night. That’s all about effort. Someone mentioned Izzo upthread. His favorite drill should be a part of every practice. winninghoops.com/drills/tom-izzo-competitive-rebounding-drill/Just an incredibly disappointing loss. I agree we missed a lot of open shots, but was amazed by how badly we missed on some of those. It was not just the shots that barely hit the front rim from behind the deeper 3 point line. Mac took some really bad shots. Trey did too, although he did make a rare pass out of the lane and was rewarded with a dunk. Someone referenced the UTEP game in 93 for which I was in the front row under the basket. That team made good use of the home court advantage. Yesterday we wasted it. Govan with the two quick fouls didn’t help. Not hitting the guy at the foul line against the zone and instead settling for a Mac falling out of bounds fade away baseline midrange jumper. Anyway, just some of my two cents. Next year we’ll hopefully be better.

The 2020 class is really the first that he has been able to have a fair shake at. With the amount of time he had with 2018 and 2019 he has signed up some real and potential talent. So I’d say he has done an excellent job in recruiting so far. Ok. I see your point. I am concerned it includes a bit of ‘homer-ism.’ Here are some other examples with the note that Ewing was hired in April 2017 Hardaway signed James Wiseman. (Hardaway hired in 3/18) Cream signed Anthony Edwards (Crean hired in Spring 2018) Hopkins signed Isaiah Stewart. (Hopkins hired in March 2017) Others have landed Top 10 talent in the same timeframe. I am 100% satisfied with Coach Ewing. I am hopeful that he keeps Georgetown improving on the same trajectory. For sure, favorite NBA player turned coach of my favorite team. But coaches start building relationships with players early on. That’s why in the RJ Cole thread Cole mentions Georgetown as one of the early schools that are interested. I live in Georgia and it was a major surprise that Crean was able to get Edwards, who most thought was going to Kentucky. The player stated something about wanting to be near his family. I think Hopkins had previously been recruiting Stewart at the cuse. Which goes along with getting in early helps. Wiseman is from Memphis, so staying at home makes sense. Not sure what other schools were offering him, but I’m sure they are either on the naughty sneaker list, the fake classes list, or the one and done just go to class for a semester list.

Opened youtube to hear some music and this video popped up. Ewing was incredible, should show this video to the team. Penny was so good and there is Greg Anthony.

Pickett got going early and looked confident. Then went to the bench, played 29 minutes. He had a dribble drive down the right side of the lane with the defender on his hip that he used in the St. John’s game. He gets to his spot and elevates. Solid game for him I thought.

I was a bit surprised to hear the song, a bit out of place in my opinion.

Not there any longer. Can you share what it said? It was a better picture of this play. Nice! Look at who is first off the bench.
