Well yes, it would requires some Democrats to actually pass, so perhaps my wording was a bit imprecise. However, I suspect that the Democratic leadership has enough control over its party at this point that no Democrat would offer such an amendment. They would have no compunctions about supporting a Republican attempt at it, though, which is why I think leadership is trying to keep the bill off the floor. The statement from Hoyer shows what a cluster.... this bill could turn into if it splits the Democrats into pro- and anti-gun camps and gets the anti-gun camp to vote no on the bill. I don't think that's going to happen though. The reason so many Democrats were free to support the amendment (mostly Blue Dogs and those from rural and/or Southern areas) was because they knew the provision would be removed in conference. NRA ratings and the like are derived from actual votes, so the Blue Dogs would get the bump for voting for the amendment but not get penalized for failing to get the amendment through conference. Am I wrong about this? I though the House-Senate conference on this hadn't happened yet.

ESPN360 might still have the replay of that game; I know they did at one point. If so, you can at least get a screenshot. I think 360 uses Silverlight, so I don't know about ripping video. I already checked, they don't have a replay of it online. If they did, I have video capture software, so I could grab it myself.

This is a shot in the dark, but bear with me.
During the Marquette game on 2/21, I had friends from Indiana with their infant son in the crowd. Since he was decked out cute baby Hoya gear, an ESPN cameraman came by their section and put them on the air for a little bit. This was sometime in the second half.
Mom is now looking for any video of this moment that might exist. If you Tivo'ed the game and have the wherewithal to create clips from that feed, I would be very appreciative if you could create a clip of that moment. Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out.

"Wake v Maryland Who we want: Terps by a hair. Terps lose and they fall back. Terps win and they're in and we get a big win. If I had to choose, I'd go Terps. Simply put, I want BC and Maryland to move ahead of paper tigers Miami and VA Tech definitively" Perhaps you're right but we still want them to lose. If the Terps make the dance instead of us that would be devestating. I think Giga's right. Maryland continuing to win puts them into the "quality win" category for us. As much as it pains me to say, I think it's in our interest for the Terps to keep winning this year.

Leoben's been missing for quite a while. You think he'd have something to do with all the Kara stuff, but apparently no. Maybe they just didn't want to pay him for more episodes. ]
Just as an aside, I guess at this point we're never getting a real episode about the number 4's and 5's. Those guys probably aren't even working on the show anymore.

I never thought I'd say this but... thanks Villanova. In the last three days you have done exactly what I wanted you to do. I appreciate it. Now can I go back to hating them? Not until they beat Providence in their next game... I think we're pretty much cheering for every Big East team that's already locked up a bid at this point, especially if they're playing a bubble team. We're all Villanova fans, now.

You gotta think a battle is coming, but I can't see the Galactica surviving it, even if they win. How many basestars does Cavil have, anyway?

So at least the wheels of the final confrontation are in motion, even if I'm just as confused as ever. I could have sworn pianoman was Daniel/Kara's father, but I guess not. And you gotta feel bad for the Chief.

Don't be so sure about The Washington Post. They are strugg-a-ling. But they've got Kaplan to help keep them afloat, which is making more money for the company than the newspaper. I think we should bailout the Washington Post and impose the fairness doctrine on them. Have you read the Post's op-ed section lately? Will, Kristol, Gerson, Krauthammer: commie pinkos all!

I will wager that, when the Voting Rights Act passes both houses (and it will because Democrats don't believe in the Constitution), the Supreme Court will delay its implementation until it hears the case. And, this court (assuming its makeup is not changed before it hears the case) will find it unconstitutional. And, of course, like you liberals like to say when it supports your aims, that establishes a precedence that should be followed by later courts (I confess, I don't believe a precedence should necessarilly be followed by later courts). Let me just add that I'm so glad to find so many conservatives rediscovering the Constitution. Was it stuffed between some couch covers for the last 8 years?

Now it looks like the gun part's going to be taken out in conference. And Boz/Tables, I was actually just joking with slavery bit. I guess we get so worked up here that no amount of hyperbole can phase us. I'm going back to the I'mnotokyou'renotok thread. I know you were joking. Hence my smiley. DC people always crack me up. Look, the sooner you all accept your second class citizen status, be satisfied with what we give you and not ask for anything more, the happier we'll all be. We all know it takes, like, almost two DC residents to equal any of the rest of us. Why you can't see that is beyond me. ;D ;D ;D [ man, someone's really going to lay into me for this one.....] "Listen, driving across the river just makes me a better person, I'm sorry."

We're looking at a future where the only newspapers in America are the New York Times, the Wall Street Journal, the Washington Post, and USA Today.
I still don't understand why newspapers cut local staff first. It's their only comparative advantage. If the paper Des Moines has only a local staff with national news, international news, opinion, and the arts syndicated, that's still not a half bad paper.

Well there is a nifty piece of legislation called the District of Columbia Home Rule Act that you might be unfamiliar with. Nevertheless, I'm not claiming Congress lacks the power to do so, just that it's wrong for it to do so. A body that I have absolutely no representative in is messing with my local laws, which is frankly dictatorial. If someone thinks the DC gun laws are out of synch with the 2nd Amendment, they can go through the courts, or are you also unfamiliar with District of Columbia v. Heller? True, Bando, but Congress passed the Home Rule Act, and so Congress can override or retract it as it sees fit with new legislation. The 1974 Congress couldn't tie the hands of the 2009 Congres. Congress also had the power to regulate slavery. Which means slavery is awesome.

Would Puerto Rico be next? Is there an argument to be made there? If DC, why not Puerto Rico? Do they pay federal taxes? They pay some taxes in Puerto Rico (mostly import/export, social security). The majority do not pay US income tax, just local and payroll taxes. Puerto Rico has also had at least three referendums on the subject, with a choice of the status quo, statehood, or independence (they've voted for the status quo each time). And no, they don't pay federal income tax. While this is technically true, it's more truthful to say that neither the government of Maryland nor that of the District of Columbia supports such a move. My main problem with the "constitutional" arguments is that no legislator who's citing such an argument now will vote for such an amendment if proposed, completely for partisan reasons. It's a bull argument.
