Pope Francis: A Saintly Name, Hold The 'I'QUOTE:After his election as pope Wednesday, Jorge Mario Bergoglio chose a name that, for many Catholics, sent an immediate signal of his goal to unite the Roman Catholic Church: Pope Francis. The name also prompted some confusion whether it should include "I." At least one of those questions has now been cleared up, as a Vatican spokesman said in the hours after the new pope's first appearance on the balcony of St. Peter's Basilica that the pontiff would be known as "Pope Francis." The name is also repeated in Wednesday's Vatican Bulletin.
Right. He's not the first until there's a second. It's the same reason we don't call her Victoria the First.

There really hasn't been a lot of information about this from the Hoop Club or the University. They want us to show up, right?

Stray thoughts probably said elsewhere but meh: - I don't think we should have divisions, even with 12 schools. But balance between the East and Midwest is crucial for internal conference power. Thus after Creighton is added as #10, the next two in 2014 should be one from the East, one from the Midwest.
- In the East, I don't understand why VCU isn't in the conversation at all. They are vastly preferable to Richmond
- In the Midwest, I think SLU is a better get than Dayton. I admit I may be influenced in this by this post from a Dayton fan to the Marquette message board three months ago.

I betcha they're waiting on an overture to ND before announcing the 10th. Seems like the only reason they'd wait.

Can we play a conference schedule with only 9 teams? That means 16 home-and-home conference games. I thought we would go to 10 to get to 18 league games, which seems to be the standard.

Really, really happy we're keeping the name, if true. I was trying to think of new conference names the other day and they all sounded terrible, like "East Coast Conference" and the like.

I addition to the strong cast, I like the way they've captured a lot of the early 80s American mentality and culture (hoping for lots of good music throughout this series - Fleetwood Mac's Tusk in the pilot was used superbly). Boz, don't know if you saw this, written right after its use in The Americans pilot. I have listened to this song on repeat for the past 2 weeks: Fleetwood Mac’s strangely savage “Tusk” was the band’s weirdest hit

Kroll was the co-MC of Cabaret my junior year (2001). I was in the non-humor role of "trombonist". I believe he opened with Tom Jones' "Sexbomb".

I suspect Ranch Dressing's thread will get locked, so I'll post a response here. FWIW, I was definitely in the anti-split away camp. I thought the idea was silly. Six months ago, it didn't seem like the best option. And I'll maintain that 6 months ago, it didn't make the most sense. But either Ranch & Co. were eerily prescient, or circumstances have just changed. It seems pretty clear to be that the dismantlement of the Big East had reached the point of no return. The Big East was already the walking dead. In business or politics or journalism, when the landscape has changed dramatically and you keep clinging to what once was and what we all wish could still be, you're going to fail. It's time to change. So I'm glad the Georgetown and others are being proactive and not waiting until everything has completely fallen apart. Right on. RD is coming very close to gloating. Months ago when DFW first posted on the dangers of a bball-only league, I was in complete agreement with him. Now I'm not. It's not that I've suddenly been enlightened that RD was right all along, it's that the facts on the ground have changed dramatically. Right now I see splitting from the Big East as the least bad option available, one with many, many negatives. Plus, if DFW wants to call it a "CYO League" and post a long opinion piece on the front page, he has every right to do so. It's his site, he can do as he pleases.

I was at the last 15-2 upset (Hampton over Iowa State in 2001, immediately after the Georgetown-Arkansas game). This one was just as awesome.

Maybe, but does your average student know the scholarship/non-scholarship distinction?
That's always a possibility. I can see cheering for him when he comes in, then, but the loud insistence that he enter the game?
Yes, I'm a troll. Congratulations on getting to 100 posts, by the way. That's adorable!

So did anyone else get really uncomfortable when the students started chanting for Caprio late in today's game? As Hoyadrummer can tell you, I got physically anxious every time they cheered his name or went wild when he got a touch. Seriously, I was anxious to the point of embarrassment. I hope I'm not rehashing a previous discussion, but here are my general reasons for feeling this way: [/b]. I know, I know. But no one was chanting Bowen's name or going wild when he touched the ball, so it's clearly not just a benchwarmer thing. The sight of a mostly white student section loudly asking for a rarely used white player is really problematic for me. 2. Disrespect for JTIII. He's the coach and will put in whoever he damn well wants. Game management is not up for popular vote. 3. Disrespect for the other players. I think this is what bothers me the most. For the students to chant Jason Clark's name, he has to be kicking ass in a major way. For them to chant Caprio's, we just have to be ahead by a lot. How must the other players feel when the students are acclaiming a guy who hasn't done a single thing to deserve it? Furthermore, how embarrassed must Caprio be when this happens? [/ul] Maybe I'm overreacting, but this has always bothered me. Does anyone have a similar feeling?

It's snowing in DC right now. Knowing how area residents react to the slightest amount of flurries, expect attendance to be in the hundreds tonight.

Hear, hear Rosslyn. I also think the Unity08 folks fail to see that a bipartisan result can often be worse than a purely Democratic or Republican result.
