Being another Depaul? That's rubbish. John Bagley, Dana Barros, Howard Eisley, Bill Curley, Danya Abrams, Troy Bell, Craig Smith, Jared Dudley, et al. -- all in 25 years of BE play. They're down right now. But put them back in the BE and they'd be a perfect fit. But for now... those traitors can rot in their winless abyss. BC is a hot mess right now, to the point that I've heard BE nostalgia voiced around here. For the BE's purposes, UConn >>>>> BC. UConn's football program is a joke and could be jettisoned with only a little embarrassment as the side effect. BC can't get rid of its football program, ever; the alums would riot. And since BC is the only thing keeping UConn out of the ACC, the status quo is preferable. Let UConn come to the sorely belated realization that bigtime football has been an ill-considered quest and they might be able to rejoin us in the BE. They instantly raise the caliber of BE basketball and delight all their alums. And even if in some bizarro universe BC left the ACC and petitioned for re-admittance, they'd be top target for the B10 or whoever is looking to expand their Power conference with that football program in place. (Personally, I enjoy the 10-team home and home and the flexibility of private school independence, so I'm cool with no expansion at all.)

Where would we be without Derrickson? He plays with so much poise for a frosh.

No doubt UConn would love back in the BE. Spent the holiday with some big UConn fans who bemoaned that the conference schedule was so lame this year. The problem is, they'd love to be in the ACC more and would gladly jump if they had the chance (say, slots open up via a SEC raid on UNC/UVA). Do we really want to get ditched again by a football school? Nay, let them downgrade football if they want to play us in hoops so bad.
To say that BCS football is irrelevant to the vast majority of New England sports fans is probably not strong enough. The whole UConn/UMass big time football quest has been utter folly from the beginning.

Of the top 10 basketball budgets in Division I, Georgetown ranks 8th of 10 in wins over the past 20 years and is one of just two of that top 10 without multiple Final Four appearances in the past 20 years. What is the other school? Indiana, I think.

Only 16 teams can make the "third" round. Georgetown was clearly not one of the 16 best teams in the nation this season. On top of that, they lost to a team that clearly was one of those top 16 teams. There's really no shame in that. I don't know why the loss to Utah should prompt serious soul-searching. I'm bummed that we lost but that's the nature of the beast. Taking care of business against EWU was my baseline expectation for this tournament based on the results of the regular season.
The 2014-15 Hoyas were a tough and competitive team that was one of the best in a deep Big East. They performed well in non-conference games, as always, and entertained us all with a smackdown of Nova. The senior class was somewhat lacking in top-end talent, but they were players we could all be proud of, and the underclassmen are likely to become a formidable force next year and beyond. Thankfully, everyone passed their classes this year. Moreover, the players proved to be another group of resilient and mature Georgetown players. And I'm excited for the recruiting class (especially Govan) to arrive on campus this summer.
Georgetown's basketball program is great fun to watch and a credit to the university. They perennially assemble strong teams that perform well in the Big East and make the tournament. "Expecting" more than that, in practice, means being willing to sacrifice the consistency and ethically-sound foundation of our program for a shot at more Final Fours, i.e. by trading JTIII for a stronger in-game coach with weaker ties to GU and/or more ethically dubious approaches, like our old friend Magoo. While I thrill and collapse with every Hoya win and loss like everyone else, I would not trade places with Syracuse today for all the vacated wins in the world.

To me the most impressive part of tonight was weathering that initial storm and building a lead to close out the half. This was followed closely by the start of the 2nd half where we extended said lead... Outside of Hayes and Bowen being huge for that, Paul's 3 will be a very underrated part of keeping EWU at arms reach when they were on the way to the comeback... Paul White is the KING of the stop-the-bleeding 3. He had two of them today, one in each half.

Solid win against a truly annoying team.
Hayes will always have a special place in my heart for what he did in the first half.

Time for DSR to repeatedly get to the line and knock them down.

Reggie Miller in his prime would have missed some of the shots these idiots are taking.

I mean, there's nothing preventing them from hiring a "good" coach, the problems are that: (1) There's nothing in the last 20 years of SJU hiring that indicates they're capable of replicating what Xavier's done (2) Like I said with Danny Hurley, I don't think it's that clear-cut that SJU is a better job than a successful A10 team. So you're now into the level talking about guys like Masiello in the MAAC or Bobby Hurley with two seasons of MAC coaching experience. (3) Like you said, this is really a stepping stone job. So if a good coach comes in and somehow turns this team around by 2017-18, they're probably out the door and SJU's back here again in a few years. Well, in reply to #3, I don't see that as a real problem because in that scenario SJU would have a good team with a much higher profile and luster restored to the position and would be in much better shape for a follow-on hire than they are at present.

Ah, but as Raftery teaches it is a "basketball move" to flail your arm back and upward 180 degrees behind your body in the direction of the face of the opposing player who just embarrassed you by rejecting your layup attempt.

Hideous 2nd half, but we got that big win we needed for our resume.
I automatically want to rave about the freshmen, but Bril and DSR were huge tonight. Bril was nails and his return in the 2nd half galvanized the team. And DSR was steady draining FTs when we needed exactly that.
