Please direct me to the portions of our Constitution that make government responsible for providing health care, or housing, or food. Well this flamed up nicely! Oh, and yes. Article 1, section 8. Congress' right to tax, spend, and regulate interstate commerce are all directly relevant to government's provision of health care. That you disagree with the Supreme Court's interpretation of these clauses and Congress' subsequent legal justification for providing these services is ultimately between you and your representatives (so long as you don't live in DC).

The inherent difference only being that I just want my own money, that I earned, back. You want to call a tax cut a hand out fine. It's me putting my hand out to get my own money back. As opposed to those who create nothing and earn nothing sticking their hands out for my money (yours too). I'm sorry but you've got to be freaking kidding me here. You think the only people "sticking their hands out" for government money are "those who create nothing and earn nothing". Is this a parody of an actual argument? Or is it actually that naive? Did you know that 70% of those without health insurance are employed (or live in the household of someone employed)? Did you know that there are estimated to be more unemployed college graduates than high school dropouts in the US? But you're right.... let's kick the uninsured high school dropout to the curb. That will solve like 15% of our problems!! And we can feel morally superior to them too, because they probably don't even own a tuxedo or know how to sail.

Vaughn

Why not start Vaughn with Monroe? Vaughn has some low post back to the basket moves and fights for rebounds. He actually tries to box out too. 5) Monroe 4) Vaughn 3) Summers 2) Free 1) Wright Great idea. Let's pick a lineup that makes us even slower on defense. Marquette would have had even more open looks with this lineup on the floor. You realize that this (starting) lineup replaces Nikita with Vaughn right? So your point is that Nikita is WAAAAYYYY faster than Vaughn? Don't get me wrong, I think Nikita's developing really well but defensive speed wouldn't be the two words I'd use to describe him at this point.

Obama is entitled to his day in the sun. I watched all the preliminary speeches/introductions/prayers as well as Obama's speech. Did not watch what came after Obama's speech. Obama's speech: hard fought battle between idealism and naivete; naivete won. Tone of Obama's speech: it would have been interesting to hear a speech where he was as graceful and full of class as Bush has been in handing over the Presidency. I have been skeptical of the prospect of someone with as little experience as Obama being responsible for the safety of this country but was willing to give him a chance. My skepticism has turned to fear. Wants to give up all the critical tools necessary to keep us safe but wants us to trust him that he will keep us safe. Obama wants to get us out of the financial troubles we are now in by spending, spending, spending and putting us deeper, deeper, deeper in debt. Really scary. If Bush had had an inaugural day with as many references to God and Jesus he would have been scorched in the press. Bet Obama gets a near-pass. Aside from that he gave a good speech. Ha. On what planet does a day last an hour and 30 minutes?

While I agree with the article/most of the comments on a broader perspective, this years' Hoyas team certainly doesn't fit the fawning announcer "black=athletic, white=gritty" mold.
Roy was consistently praised for his work ethic (cut to the story about Big John calling him "Big Stiff" freshman year) while Jon was consistently praised for his poise, smarts, and work ethic (cut to story about Jon shooting jump shots over a broom his mother held up, then walking on to Georgetown program in transition only to earn a scholarship, become "the coach on the floor/floor general" and start every game). By the end of the year, some announcers even started to notice Pat's effort and 'gritty intensity'.

It was mentioned above that the bye situation doesn't change, but it does in a sense for teams 9-12. Courtesy of ESPN.com: "Teams seeded ninth through 16th will meet on the first day. The four winners will advance to play seeds 5 through 8. The top four seeded teams will still receive a bye to the quarterfinals, where they will meet the winners of the second day's games." I think the only other conference tournament that uses a format like this is the Big West. Bottom half teams would have to win FIVE games where the top four only have to win three. This makes it obscenely difficult for anybody in the bottom half to win the tournament. It is also probably one of most aesthetically unpleasing brackets around. It doesn't even fork!

Whenever there's a negative post...labels of "basher" fly immediately. C'est la vie. BUT this is the 3rd game I've seen with Greg Monroe and I'm thoroughly unimpressed. TO's, slow afoot, non aggressive rebounding, can't shoot worth a damn--plus, for adders, totally disinterested and lethargic. No mojo here. None. Nada. Net, net: Very, very over rated. Another project...all those schools that lost out on the bidding war are certainly breathing a sigh of relief. Status: Pray for a miraculous conversion...hope I'm wrong and will gladly EAT MY WORDS. One thing for sure, for the third straight game, this is not a McD All-American. Who, specifically, should III have gotten instead of Monroe? Or are you saying that an empty seat at the end of the bench would be preferable?

if its a tic its an obsessive compulsive disorder and can get easily addressed if he wants to. probably would help his game and draft value. hes probably just stressed about stuff. You can't possibly be serious that Roy's draft stock is hurt by his high blink rate, can you?

A ways down the page, DCist provides a link to what looks to be a pretty cool site on the old series of tubes. www.meenster.com/It supposedly proivdes real time train arrival info for every metro station. Has anyone tried this before? I.e. is this the same information I would find if I went to the metro station and looked at the train arrival screens or is it just pulled from the WMATA site?

I have a sinking feeling that this list will really just end up being a who's who of the NBA (i.e. Jordan cracks the top 10 or something like that). I thought 16 seemed low for Ewing and Sampson was what 20th?? That's rediculous for someone on his caliber.

excitableboy and hoyanyfan: so you think this thread is idiotic? WHO ARE YOU?....Did you watch the Louisville game....they lost because of his minutes in the 2nd half....great defense ...gimme a break..its the only place they can give him minutes....in the NBA...THATS MORONIC.....nice kid Im sure but no big east guard on a championship team Guy, not sure if you bothered to read the thread, but I called you out on making up an absurd argument about Rivers' PT being a result of his last name and then not bothering to stick around to back it up. I notice you haven't bothered to do so either. Classy. Just a piece of advice though--if you're going to cherry pick games to try to prove your point, you might also want to provide any sort of evidence to prove your point. Rivers took--and made--only one shot against Louisville. He was also tied for second on the team with 4 boards, and had the same # of turnovers as Wallace and had less than Sapp. I'm sure Summers, Sapp, & Wallace combining to go 6-24 had nothing to do with the loss. Really nailed it with that call.

Yeah, I used to shop around for flights quite a bit, but my status got bumped up on American last year, and now I fly with them 9 out of 10 times. On United's Economy Plus -- don't be surprised if this is the first thing Continental axes. It's great if you've got elite FF status, but has minimal appeal to anyone who doesn't. Your statement above is the whole reason for the FF programs, which are massive money makers. United has gained a LOT of favor with their Economy Plus section so I guess I am in the camp that would be surprised if it's the first thing to go.

I don't really understand what this thread is about. The initial poster hasn't shown back up to defend his rediculous assertions that Rivers gets minutes because of his last name and shouldn't even be on the team. Another guy at the other end of the spectrum claims Rivers is headed to the NBA. Everyone else is arguing back and forth about whether Rivers plays great D and struggles offensively or if he plays good D and struggles offensively.

I am not trying to defend Rivers in saying that I think he's a future NBA player. I thought that even at times last season and I am even more convinced after watching him this season. Here's a brief summary of why I believe Rivers will make the NBA: 1. He's an NBA athlete- no question about it. He's quick, fast, and explosive. He can run up and down the court with those guys and really compete from a physical standpoint. Don't discount the importance of that at the professional level. 2. He's only a sophomore and with his work ethic, he will continue to improve measurably. His shot looks solid and will become more consistent when he begins to take more shots. While his handle is not great, he is efficient with the ball and pushes it up the court. He's already a beast on defense. In another two years, he will have a pro skill set. 3. He will have the perspective and attitude necessary to make the NBA as a role player. In the NBA, you don't need some guy coming off the bench who thinks he can score twenty a night and who wants to jack up shots. I see Rivers contributing in small but important ways in much the same respect as Don Reid, except from the guard position. Let's give it time and see where he is in a couple of years. This is by no means a knock on Rivers, but there aren't exactly a ton of open slots on NBA rosters. Every year only ~60 players are drafted (some catch on undrafted, some draftees fail to make a roster, so I'll stick with 60 for now). That averages to 12 slots per position. Are you saying that you believe Rivers will be one of the top 12 players (in ncaa, europe, asia, etc) at his position by his senior year? I'd love to see it happen. But for right now, I will "settle" for a 6'4" sophomore guard coming off the bench who can play great D, rebounds well, knows the game, and has a decent handle.

Yeah he should ignore it...because there's virtually no time left in the game...just wave your arms up and let's go to OT. I'm not a NOVA fan so I couldn't tell you...but like I said...if the tables are turned...I'd want to see it played out in OT instead of having a whistle blown in that situation. I agree with you that I'd rather see that game to go OT. The problem though is that the foul was called with a full second left (clock then ran down to 0.1). The foul wasn't whistled until a step and a half after the contact, meaning "virtually no time" actually means at least a second--probably more if Jay Wright stops worrying about his cuff links and asks the refs to go to replay. So now because Wallace is bumped out of bounds Nova gets the ball back with plenty of time for a catch & shoot? How is that any more fair than what actually happened? The only other option is for the ref to blatantly miss Wallace stepping out of bounds and not award Nova the ball. You can bet we'd be hearing the same bitching from them if that was the case.

He is a very good athlete who pushes the ball up the floor in a north-south direction (as opposed to the east-west movements of Sapp) East-west is a good thing at Verizon, where the baskets are on the east and west ends of the arena.
